Does anyone know where one can buy a sound card for the dell PowerEdge 1850 server ?

The standard sound cards do not work with this machine.

<insert deity here> only knows why you're looking to put a sound card into a 1U server, but it only has PCI-X and PCI-Express as options. Don't know if PCI-X is backwards compatible or not, but have you considered a USB sound card as an option? (I assume you're running Windows on it...)

A recent decent make PCI card should be able to work with the pci-x riser card slot, or did you get pci express with your server?
    Can you look at

to determine whether your sound card is a 32 bit 3.3v (which will work) or 32 bit 5V PCI.

Alternative is a soundcard that uses the USB2 port.

or creative make a bulky more featured version.

You might want to be careful as plugging in PCI cards to a PCI-X bus might have a detrimental effect on performance if you have say a RAID card or Gigabit NIC.
