XP System Restore is Blank

    I've got my sisters machine that is full of spyware (11 year olds and an unfirewalled BB conenction dont mix) and I am trying to do a system restore however the system restore element is blank when i launch it, it cannot connect to the net anymore either, any idea of how i might get system restore to work or good tools to try and clean up the system (spybot s&D doesnt seem to catch everything btw)

    you're probably best doing a clean install, wiping everything.

    then, put back all her files, install whatever she needs, plus:
    • spybot
    • spywareblaster
    • firefox
    • zonealarm
    • and any other trustworthy freeware you can find.
    config it all then set a restore point.

    Could it be that system restore has been dissabled? If so, there'd be nothing there. Probably best to wipe out and start again though as you may not be able to restore to a point when the PC was clean, unless you know exactly when this was.

    No, system restore "starts" but just hangs, i had planned to restore back to before 09/03/05 (when she got broadband).

    Clean install me thinks
