Can anyone tell me what is the average starting salary earned by a secondary school teacher in Ireland with an MA? Is it necessary to have a HDip as well, or is an MA enough? Thanks in advance. :)

I think that if you don't get a HDIP you can be employed but generally its privately (Not private schools... although they may hire you but don't get any funding for it)

Im pretty sure a Hdip is a must unless you are goign for a job in a place like Bruce or a place like that.

What subjects you thinking of teaching

For a normal state teaching post a H.Dip is a must but your M.A. will get you an increased starting salary (somewhere around 3k extra I think).

It's about 30k a year I believe. A 3 or 4k bonus if you've done a primary honours degree. This is with your HDip.

    Foxirl,

I'm thinking of teaching French and German. Not sure if positions for these subjects are advertised that often though!

Anyone have experience of teaching in Bruce or other private schools?
