Well I thought I downloaded it but it has downloaded to be called "peace1".

    Is that it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,522 ✭✭✭✭Gordon

Hrm, it has the duck tales music
    Ah well, either way.

Firstly it took just under 2 minutes of footage to show the main character - the grossly overweight bad actor chappie in the car - driving to someones house. Fair enough, but the dialogue didn't hold up for me. The main points that you were trying to get across were - this guy is out to scam someone and he is quite intent on doing it. His character comes across quite well but the lack of any script was apparent when he started singing a song "Santa clause is coming to town" where the only words he knew from the song were "Santa Clause is coming to town" and "You better not".

He gets to the house and it takes a little while for the householder to enter the scene so we see some ad-hod mental preparation from him, I didn't feel that he was in any way psyching himself up for it but what really struck me was the woeful adlibbing on the actors part and the editors part when the householder opens the door.

    ...
Actually sorry, I really want to be able to give you a good rundown on this but I can't bring myself to watch it over again. It just doesn't interest me. I can't find any humour in there at all apart from the fact that a large overweight white guy was tricked into believing that he had a large overweight black guy as his brother. It would have been mildly funny if you put in some stupid sound effects like *BOING* when the white guy was told that he was the black guys brother for example. Or even *AROOOOOOOOGA*.

The main problem with your stuff is that you haven't learned to condense the footage that you have made. I think that you think your stuff is funny so you want to show people all of it and don't get the fact that people will not like everything you like, therefore you probably don't put much time into editing the work. Well, you don't actually put much time into editing as time location 2:03 points out. Chop your stuff up into smaller bites. For all I know that large short piece could be funny but it isn't at all funny to me because it is as watered down as a homeopaths final succuss.

The longer your takes last the more obvious the bad acting becomes. And bad acting is not always a problem if you have a good script but you don't even have a script.

Large black guy pretends to be a brother to a large white guy, asks him for food, gets taken to a food place and given food, tries to get in to get a porn movie from a video shop but they are too young. In the car home the large black guy gets annoyed that his 'brother' couldn't get him a porno and the large white guy realises that he may not be his brother.

By the way I almost chuckled when I saw the cut at 4:49 if that makes any consolation.

So to sum up. No that wasn't funny.

Good luck with it though, I really hope you continue in your quest no matter how many people are against you.

Incidentally - which guy are you: Mickey Mouse guy or large overweight guy?

If you are the large guy: you seriously need to start dieting I think I can hear your breathing on the camera shots inside the car at the beginning.
If you are squeaky voice guy: lose the accent or find a more believable voice. I suggest talking as if you have an adenoid problem.

Geordon You sound like a smart guy and you are right about things not getting cut down or being too long. Thats also my main problem. I just get really worried about cutting peoples stuff out becase If I do I have to here about it. Im the fat guy buy the way. I have to do the editing and quit often people artn up for doing thing over and over. Oh the thing with the acting it that it is supposed to be pretty bad but not terrible. Also the peach had 2 parts, Part 1 and 2 thats why it just ended like that..

    I see.

I guess you should think about what you want from this. If you want to just do what you do and please everyone that acts in it then fair enough, but please be careful where you post up your website as some places don't take lightly to spam.

However, if you want to make your stuff good and cheesy then you have to try and take the bull by the horns and do what you think is right as opposed to trying to please your fellow actors. Do you want it to be funny? If so then cut out all the non-funny bits and just leave the plot necessities, character progressions and the funny bits. For starters. For example - you could have started that whole thing with you speaking to Mickey Mouse in your house:
    You- "gee I'm bored"
    Mickey: "Yeah me too"
    *ding dong*
    "Hey I'm your brother!"
    wtf?

And then it would become obvious that you were being taken for a ride as time went on - the large black guy became more demanding from you etc etc. And so it unfolds.

And you would still have the cheesy feel because you guys are horrific actors. Which isn't a bad thing as I say.

    Jesus Christ Gordon I'm impressed.

    You've been incredibly tolerant.

    Unless..................

This isn't some desperate ploy to become Ratiz's first saint?

sorry blitz my sarcasm instinct has been in overdrive on this thread....

    No offence intented.

    none taken...

i guess amateur would be the right description. just nobody likes the sound of the word.

coolduder unless you were at the cambridge film festival and saw a few films by niel henderson (not me) then i doubt you'd seen any of the films i worked on. i've beenput in touch with Roy Frumkes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0296689/) about volunteering to work for him over the summer. so you might find my credit far down the list on a small film next year.

Blitzkrieg, you should reconsider the whole - working for free thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

i need the contacts and experiance...no one is going to pay to have a cinematographer who only has 20 (only 3 of which have been publicly displayed) or so short films and 2 scripts under his belt, and is not even far into his twenties, there is plenty of time for me to enjoy myself. Anyway i enjoy making films and i dont like to jump into the cuthroat industry just yet. gonna get a masters (when i have the money) in cinematography before i do that.

That is pretty awful to put it mildly. I think the only people that find this funny are yourselves. Like the others said work on your script and editing. If your supposed to be queens get mickey mouse to drop that voice and put on an over the top gay voice. At least it has some comedic value.
