Why Aren't Women as Funny as Men?

Is it genetically possible for women to be as funny as men?

Everytime I have this discussion with Miss Piggy, I say 'name 3 funny chicks' and she always says (1) joe brand (2) jenny eclair (3) French & saunders (...?)(as you can Miss Piggys not funny and not too clever either!)

Think of the great comedians and they've all good willies.
    1. Richard Pryor
    2. Bill Hicks
    3. Lenny Bruce
    4. Woody Allen
    5. Chris Rock
    6. Steve Martin
    7. Rodney Dangerfield
    8. Tommy Tiernan
    9.Peter Kay(perhaps)
    10. Eddie Murphy
    and i could go on

Are there any funny women comedians? Am I just a sexist tawt?

Men and women I fear have their flaws. I for example, can never be bothered to move things when I hoover (rugs, mugs, the cat, shoes etc) and I fear that women are condemned to a life less humourous.

I say they are programmed to be less entertaining than men. This is not sexist but a scientific conclusion, based on years of knowing women.

    Real scientific...

Generally they aren't as funny, but funny women do exist. I would actually like to know if there is a proper explanation as to why.

Yes they do exist but only in the same way that siamese children and long hot summers in Ireland exist.
Definitely the exception rather than the norm

There are very few women that can make me laugh. I suppose Pauline McGlynn (sp?) and Fiona Looney do but not to the extent as men.

Its not sexist. Its just the I find it.

Well it could just be that it's mostly men who like comedy and it's male comedians who they prefer, so they're the one's that become popular...

must be the estrogen or something, it is a shame because i would like to experience extreme fits of laughter brought on by a hot woman (you know the type of laughter which paralyses you, a good example of when this could of happened was in the fr. ted episode "song for europe" fr. ted and dougal and are writing the song and ted says "dougal its only a contest, dont take it so seriously", the picture/clock of the pope winds forward...... ted says "play the f**king note" you know what follows.......)anyway what the hell was i saying,

ah yes women cant tell jokes, well except that one "how do you grow your own dope?", "plant a man"....well if i didnt wet me firetraps when i heard that one!

Most jokes are *about* women, so obviously it's funnier when men tell them.

Nah i'm not having that,I recently had a major bust-up with my 'big tittied burd' over it as she accused me of being sexist. I said I wasn't and gave her a quick slap. I said I was just stating a fact that women are generally incapable of being funny. Even with decent material, their delivery and timing tends to be abysmal. I mean, it's hilarious when I cup my hands and fart into them before sharing it out (I pretend I'm like Jesus). If a woman did that it would just be disgusting and I wouldn't laugh at all. I doubt a woman would have the creativity to come up with something like that anyway.

It's because their brains have evolved to concentrate on cooking and cleaning, rather than intellectual pursuits, and humour. Pauline McGlynn was rubbish, not funny at all.. Mrs. Doyle my arse.

This thread has been covered before though Pighead, before your time, and I think the general concensus was what I've said unfortunately. It's why 'the lads' still go out and have great nights away from 'the birds'. It's why pubs are always full of funny laughing blokes all week. Why are the women not there? Coz nobody wants them to be! :)

fooking hilarious man, so true though. the anus is a comediens tool on a man and a thing to ogle on a lady(except for the ars*s that spill out over the top of the jeans)

women are great all the same, my poor little lady thought the gran prix stopped for the ad breaks.

actually wait the thread is slightly flawed, women can be hilarious when they dont mean to be.

Perhaps men have evolved to be more funny. A laughing mammoth is surely easier to kill. The same would apply to laughing cave children I imagine. Who knows? I do recall my mother saying something very funny once though. She had a long hair stuck on her shoulder and she picked it up and said, 'I knew I was missing a hair!' That's as good as it gets really.

    AMEN to that!

it's true, I mean if you look at Just For Laughs for example, most of the acts are complete ****e! but the few diamonds in the rough are the fellas! some of them have me cackin' myself! I mean there is an Irish guy, I can't remember his name but the first time I saw him on Just For Laughs he started making jokes about land masses
Ireland is the only land mass that looks like roadkill
THIS had me in stitches for days afterwards! there was another dude on the most recent series, he was a black dude who did the voices in programmes like Scooby Doo and stuff like that, and he took a well aimed shot at Arnie and this also had me ****tin' myself for days
*does arnie acent* RUN! FIAR! GET OUT!

Why would you want to kill laughing cave children?

PS: The reason the hair thing was funny, is because it was one of my pubes.
    :p:D:p

but be honest, which would guys prefer:a girl who can make you and your friends laugh, or one that will laugh at all your fart jokes?

But thats my point exactly we generally don't have a choice like that to make, generally the choice is :a girl who can look pretty and make me proud and my mates jealous or one that will laugh at my fart jokes.

Don't get me wrong i love girls and yes they are great company but for sheer unadulterated funny nights out give me the lads nights out everytime

My girlfriend makes me laugh endlessly, she's brilliantly funny! Obviously its not the kind of stand up comedian genius humour of the likes of bill hicks etc. but she has put me on the floor with stomach cramps from laughing so hard on many an occasion!

Brightens up my day... *sniff* :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 471 ✭✭tovalee

might have a lot to do with men and women just having very different senses of humor. Whats funny to another woman might not be to a man and vice versa.
I dunno, im one of the ones who laughs at fart jokes.

Sorry, but thats a bit moot, i have nothin to defend, i could call her a bitch right here, she'd never know, she's not a boards user! :D

I'm still in support of men being the funnier sex, by a long shot, simlpy adding that some women have their charm too, though few and far between... to be honest my girlfriend is the only female who has ever made me laugh like that, all my life! I guess that says it all really! Try and recall the last time you laughed heartily at something a woman said/did in an effort to be funny and pulled it off? Toughie aint it? :D

Generally they aren't as funny, but funny women do exist. I would actually like to know if there is a proper explanation as to why.

Socail conditioning. For years it was unseemly and unlady like for a woman to
draw too much attension or notice to themsselves as it was unmodest and
they would make a scandal of themselves. [Thank the gods times have moved onand there is TV instead of gossiping about who opened thier gob or flashed thier ankles.] That coupled with the fact that it can be hard to be taken seriously at anything when you have to wait for the time delay when people are look at what you look like cos your female, means there are a lot of women that do not step forward for things from, public speaking, politictions, and stand up comics.

And Like any area where there are few women there there are less chances of
having good ones in there. 1,000 male comedians may give you 12 good ones decent ones, what are the chances of there being 100 female comdieans to being with ?

Besides nothing worse then trying to deliever a punchline when people miss it cos thier staring at your tits.

Ah i wouldnt go that far, he was only jokin!

oh.......in that case unban this poller!

My opinion is that women can be funny, as long as....

    1. They aren't talking about "women's things".
    2. They aren't talking about bringing up kids.
    3. They aren't slagging men off.
    4. They aren't slagging football off.
    5. They aren't talking about how hard their lives are compared to men.

And as women rarely stay away from any of the above in conversation i think its fair to say, funny they aren't!

Its only on a forum like this where there are a few right bunch of weirdoes  where id expect someone to think up something like this, maybe there isnt as many actual women comedians as men but to say they cant be as funny is like saying that Ian Paisley loves Gerry Adams,i know plenty of girls who can be "funny" that doesnt mean they have to actually get up on a stage to do so...dear oh dear...........
