    Hey all,

Got a possible excursion comin up at the beginning of may to fly over to london for a gig. Flyin the day of the gig in the morning hopefully, spend the day around london, then off to the gig, go out afterwards and then fly back in the wee small hours of the morning after the gig.

So what i'm lookin for is maybe a few hints an tips from anyone who has done the same or has anything helpful to offer at all! In particular, a rough idea of how much money one might need (in euros) to get through the whole thing excluding the flights and gig tickets, got them covered. I just dont know what the city is like for eating/drinking...

    Cheers in advance!

    Adam :D

London is a big place, what part are you going to? Prices can vary a lot depending on where you are.

The Regeant Palace in Piccadilly Circus is the cheapest hotel I could find in London.

It's perfect for a one-night stay. The only thing is the room tends to be really hot at night, but that seems to be a common trend among London Hotels even one 5-star hotel I stayed in before.

I've stayed in Days Inn Waterloo (www.daysinn.com) a few times. It's usually about £60 per room per night (+£6 per person full breakfast). It's about 4 or 5 tube stops to Piccadilly (Lambert North tube station is 3 mins walk from hotel - nearer than Waterloo station) or a 20 mins walk (a doddle when you're pissed!!!). Hotel is very clean and nice. A good off-licence next door also!

Think what the OP is looking for here is advice as to how to while away the time between the end of the gig and his flight check-in time.

Don't think s/he is looking for a hotel?

Was over in London for a long weekend recently - the museums are always good, I always go to the Science Museum when I am there (about 30-35 Eur for a ticket for the IMAX etc, though most of it is free). The Tate Modern is good to while away a few hours, though the collections vary (again, most of this is free). The London Eye is expensive, if you go there you should book your tickets in advance for as early as possible in the day - it costs around 30 Eur, the optional photo is about 15 Eur. Personally I always adore Hamleys toy store. Food in London varies - like Ireland - depends on what you want. You will probably spend most of the money you bring though it can be done on the cheap.

London is only massive, so if you've not been before and have only got a few hours, I'd say go mad and throw yoruself into being a tourist and get on one of those touristy bus things with the open top. You'll be surprised how much you recognise from the tv and you can hop on and off them at will, when you see something you like the look of or are interested in.
If you are too cool for that then the V&A museum is worth a look and the National History museum is stupendous. The Imperial War Museusm is fascinating and if you are a bit of a foodie and want to be gobsmacked, go into the Hood Hall in Harrods. It's mesmerising!!

If this is at a weekend you could by tickets in advance for a nightclub from ticketmaster (.co.uk) - somewhere like Fabric or End Club will be open until the wee hours as an alternative to forking out for a hotel for 3 hours kip ;)

Yeah a few people didnt quite catch the game plan! I don't wanna find a place to kip for a few hours (except with you Lump, you hospitality is well received :D), hence the going out after the gig! The gig itself is taking place in the Alexandra Palace(???) which apparently is in LondonN22, whatever that means... in case nobody can tell, i've never been to London before!

    Cheers all so far though!
