Is it possible to use the floppy connector to connect a hard disk. I already have an extra hard disk added and there are no slots left for a new one, crappy dell PC, and as I don't use the floppy drive was wondering is there any way to use its connectors.

Prob a stupid question buy the innards of a PC are new to me.

An external USB2 Hard disk would be an option if you need to add f urther drives or a seperate sata card and drive.

thanks guess thats what I will have to do. This 60GB is the smallest drive - just replaced by 200GB one-so was hoping for a cheap way to use it.

Or alternatively you could buy a controller card and get 4 more ide channels for your pc so you could install 4 more hard drives

Yep, not particularly easy.. but just a case of following a few steps:

First of all check theres enough spare power-connectors (white 5-pin connectors) and physical space to actually mount a new-hard drive in the case... next check if there are any free PCI slots in the machine (these are usually white conector-blocks below your graphics card) ... if alls ok with this then you're halfway there.

Next you need to buy yourself a new PCI controller card... this will allow you to connect the extra hard-drives... these come in two flavours: SATA or IDE and you need to match the type with the hard-drives you intend on purchasing.

Then stick the controller card in, mount the hard-drive in the case, attach the hard-drive using the supplied cables to the new controller, attach the power cable to the back of the hard-drive, close up the case and boot-up... windows should pick up the new controller automatically (if not use whatever software it came with).. and then the attached hard-drive.

Well, there are hard disks that use that interface, but you might have a bit of trouble finding one nowadays, and they do max out at about 20MB :)

Cheapest way to use the 60GB drive is to buy an enclosure :

Komplette do one ( http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=123721&cks=SER) - not paticularily cheap

OR this off eBay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41911&item=5176398914&rd=1) they ship to Europe. ;)
