    So what the fruck....

I bought her earings, and she flipped, next time I wont buy her anything!

I asked a friend why were earings shunned as a present, she wouldn't tell me.

Any women here care to tell me why they are a bad present? Apperently other jewelry is fine, just not earings!

Maybe she doesn't have her ears pierced and is upset you didn't notice, thus making it a bad present for her, (but not all women). If that's the case, she might feel you don't really "know her", and just picked a pair of earrings coz you thought "girls like that kinda thing".

I'm a girl, and I don't have my ears pierced, so I'd feel a little disappointed if I got earrings from the one person supposed to know me best.

If this is the case, I suggest an apology and take the earrings back and get her a chain, or take her out for a meal at her favourite restaurant... or anything you know she loves.

If this isn't the case... then I don't know what to tell ya... give her a kick in the face and tell her to stop moaning?

*note - the last sentence is not real advice. Doper Than U will not be held responsible for any repercussions of said actions*

My friend got earrings from her bf for Valentines and she's STILL showing them off!! Describe the ones you got for us all...

Earrings are tricky things. I would prefer not to be bought a pair because if they don't suit they can't be returned, for hygiene reasons.

Plus a pair of earrings that you think looks nice may remind her of her mothers earrings (not usually a good thing) or may not be her style.

However having said that I would still except them as a gift gracefully and store them away in a cupboard and drop better hints next time. ;)

I don't think there was any real reason to flip at you? Maybe the poster above is right and she doesn't have her ears pierced? If she just didn't like them then it's a very rude way off saying so.

Maybe they were manky earings. Please attatch photo and we'll all tell you what we think. Still no reason for her to flip out though.

They didn't spell out b!tch face in diamante or anything?

Perhaps when she saw the little box she thought it was an engagement ring? And after she saw it was earrings she was gutted.

    Her ears aren't pierced

I honestly don't know how I never noticed before!

Ohh and can girls tell roughly how much a pair cost?

If so that would also explain a bit of the anger hehehe

You never noticed that she never wore earrings?? *shakes head* Men.....

that really is above & beyond. You are a shining beacon for all people who couldnt buy a decent present if it jumped off the shelves onto your wallet.

I'm also bad at buying presents, but not THAT bad. I'm with Con and Chucky on this one. An ironing board cover or a hoover (but not a crap one) make exquisite presents. To that list I shall also add a wall clock and a pair of wellingtons.

And add in a sowing set along with the hoover and ironing board covers and you will win her heart back.

You're an eejit. Quite simple. However, your girlfriend is also an eejit for not explaining why she flipped. Playing games gets no one anywhere.

    Plonker:D

Ah well, you'll not make that mistake again. Allowing for the idea that you might and should have noticed, flipping out over it might be a bit OTT.

Explains the miffed thing though. I got my GF a nice pair of earrings as an extra Santa present. They weren't too cheap but they weren't hundreds either. She was well pleased. Then again I've taste in that kind of thing and a usual knack of choosing well. Don't like getting crap presents, don't like giving them either.

As for whether they can tell how much something cost, depends on the person. If the present is right (and unfortunately yours obviously wasn't for very good practical reasons) the cost shouldn't matter so much. The right present is the right present whether it costs 50 quid or a thousand.

Rymus, you forgot some good stuff for the kitchen. A garlic crusher, a nice new pair of oven gloves. And a set of hoover bags, always goes down well. Or a wedding, girls like that. You could always get her a new boyfriend. Someone who notices whether she's got holes in her ears, shoe sizes and things she might actually be interested in.

aha but if you got her a dyson she wouldnt need hoover bags! Truly a master stroke...

I'd also like to add a multi-function blender to the list. Bitches love to be blendin' n' sheit.

Most cheap earings aren't hypoallergenic either

some people are just picky about little things like that..

I believe none of you guys have it right.

    I'll bet the reason she hated the earings is beacause;

they are not an engagement ring

I should know, GF keeps pointing to Diamond rings (not cubic Zirconia, too cheap) in magazines, jeweller shop windows and the like.

Looks like I won't be wearing matching shoes for long, judging the price of diamonds.

There's only one thing you can do now to salvage the situation and come out looking like "Mister Perfect". (I know him, he's a good guy. Perfect, ya might say.)

Okay, so, what ya do is: Tomorrow night wait for her to go to bed and then come up to her and be a little frisky. She'll think you're gonna make sweet, sweet love to her, which is the perfect moment to hit her with the cloroform soaked cloth! While she's unconscious put down some plastic sheets on your side of the bed. Then roll her onto the plastic. Get a thumb tac and stick it right through both ear lobes! The holes don't need to be symetrical but it helps. When she wakes up in 3-4 hours with her ears pierced as she's always wanted them to be she'll want to get back to that sweet, sweet love you started earlier and you look like "Mister Perfect"!

P.S. If there's anything else you think she might like pierced don't be afraid to nuts. She won't feel a thing.

If the box said Elizabeth Duke then she'd be angry, cheapo earrings and she could look up the catalogue

i got my gf ear rings for valentines, got input from female friend before i bought em.

    she seemed to like em.

even if your gf didn't like em, its the thought that counts.

they were'nt pat butcher earings, were they?

They probably looked cheap. If my boyf gave me a cheap pair of earrings for my bday I would be seriously put out. She probably just thought you could have made more of an effort. Doesn't sound like you did. Pull your socks up boy, or get dumped.

If my girlfriend was as shallow as you we'd no longer be together.

It's not the price of the earrings that's important, she obviously felt like he made f**k all effort. He even asked if girls could tell how much they cost so he was obviously trying to pull a fast one and pawn her off with something inferior.

Yeah it's the thought that counts, but if there was very little thought there, that counts just as much.

Sounds like price is important to you. So much so that you go on to suggest he may be dumped if he doesn't "pull his socks up"!

Did you actually bother to read my last post? I wouldn't care what I got once I felt it was bought with care and attention etc. But I didn't get that impression from the OP. And his girlfriend blatantly didn't either...
