    Adobe was really slow and annoying when loading pdf documents within firefox, I found this page, and it has got Way quicker, give it a go...
    #1
    in Firefox:
    Tools-->Options--->
    Then make sure you select the download option on the left
    click PDF document under file types-- choose change
    browse to the adobe acrobat file (probably C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe) and use to open it....

    #2
    in Acrobat Reader:
    Edit--->Preferences--->Internet
    unchecked everything under the "Web Browser Options"

    Combined both of these work--
    #1 has Firefox pointing to adobe reader- rather than a plug-in for reader

    #2 has internet files prevents the plugin from opening--

    I think there might be some repitition here --- but I don't know-- I don't care-- it works---

    As for speeding up Adobe Acrobat:

    use the software mentioned above or go old school...

    In Windows Explorer Go to the same acrobat folder (in program files as above):

    go to the plug-ins folder---

    Copy all of the files (put them in another folder-- named something else-- for safekeeping)

    now--(still in the plug-ins folder)
    delete all of the files except:

    EWH32.api
    printme.api
    search.api

    now try opening acrobat reader-- it will be much faster---

    the reason it is so slow is because it has to load all of the plug-ins--

    you could choose to leave additional ones such as the above as well (if you like emailing directly from acrobat, etc)

    for me-- printing & searching are just fine...

    I was told to leave EWH32.api in there as well- although I have no idea what this actually does--- again-- not worth spending the time to figure it out-- but if anybody know-- I'm curious...

    Hope that helps....

    AFAIK there is an 'optional' directory already there that you're supposed to put Disabled Acrobat 6 plugins in. Perhaps there is a way to get it to search this for non-loaded plugins.

    I think EWH32 is an 'External Window Handler' to allow Acrobat to embed itself in the client areas of other applications (namely web browsers).

    Emptying the plugins directory of unnecessary files (all but about 4 - there is a second search plugin that is worth keeping) has the same effect.
