well if they were looking for a metal pub id say Bruxelles or Fibbers. Another good spot is The Foggy Dew (beside the Central Bank).

Trad music wise i couldnt tell you. The only ones i know are in Temple Bar. (fitzsimons and the Auld Dubliner)

Whelens on Camden st., Doyles off college green, McTurtles up near Tara st., or Longsword (is that the name?) on Townsend street.
If you reconsider on temple bar (cause i go there all the time and it's legend these days) The dubliner, Temple bar pub or Fitzsimos are all good, and place across the street from fitzsimons is great. If you're looking for a big local pub, Dropping well in Ratgar is a great pub to name but one...other good areas for big local pubs are Donnybrook, Terenure and Rathmines...Don't know about Northside though, hardly ever drink over there, taxi costs and all, but the sub is good and the Yacht in Clontarf also very good....Castleknock (can't remember name) has very good pub.

Wherever you go, don't forget to finish the night off in Isoldes Tower.. They open till 3am tonight, it's free in, and it won't be packed like at the weekends.. Music will be good to :)

I think you mean the Long Stone? It's a great pub.

the Dropping Well is really in Milltown not Rathgar. Coman's in Rathgar is good though and has a quiet bar connected to it called the Bottle Bank which is nice.

I'd recommend the Porter House. I know it's in Temple Bar but it does have a very wide range of beers to try plus it's own brews which are all really nice. It's also got a great atmosphere and sometimes there's a trad session going on.

I second the Porter House. Good beer (or cider, being a cider man myself, had a selection of at least 3 different types), and the women are usually foreign (another plus), and to finish it off, there's usually a band playing there.

Bruxelles deffo for punk/metal, downstairs, to the left.

    Porterhouse also good.

    Isoldes also good.

As for the Northside, you could try The Big Tree, not much like the other three, but not bad.
