Dwelling-place number - what's it called?

A couple of years back the ESB, Bord Gáis, Eircom and the Government got together on a study which was supposed to give an individual number to every dwelling-place that could be used by all utilities, etc.

But what the heck was the thing called? I thought it was a Geodata number, but can't find anything under that name. Anyone heard of this?

An Post and Ordnance Survey have a geocoding system that assigns a number to every dwelling place.
It's a sucky system in quite a few ways, not least that you have to pay to subscribe to the data.

Comreg may be sponsoring a less detailed, but more open geocoding system in the near future, NSAI/ICTSSC/SC4 are working on a proposal for same. See http://www.comreg.ie/_fileupload/publications/PR260105.pdf
