i've never had a problem myself with ryan air, but their customer relations has to be one of the worst in the world.

read about this site in the hearld last night, you can understand why the guy's pissed off, they really did take a giant 5hit on him.

Jaysus, will people ever lay off the Ryanair bashing?

They're a low-cost airline. Their entire business model depends on not forking out for a hotel if there's delays etc. There's no way you can expect an airline to pay for this kind of thing when you've paid €20 for your flight.

And personally, I have to say, I've always found Aer Lingus to have far ruder staff than the Ryanair crews.

I have shares in Ryanair so all I'm concerned about is the share price - if that mean crap customer service I couldn't give a hoot and I still fly Ryanair coz they're the cheapest, simple as that... ;)

Myself and my wife flew into Paris Beauvis last year and did a week in Paris and Euro Disney, and then up to Normandy for a couple of days to tour the beaches. We arrived back to Beauvis in the evening for our flight which was around 22:00 or so. From nowhere, a big thick fog rolled in with the net result that our flight and another to Milan was cancelled. I ended up sharing the last available hotel room with another couple from Italy, after we were dropped off by a taxi in the middle of nowhere, to a hotel that dispenced keys from a vending machine (it'll be a great story to tell the kids).

It was unfortunate for us, but i wasn't going to start moaning about. We got the tickets for around a hundred quid all in, and at that price i had no illusions about what would happen in such circumstances. My only regret was posting the rental car keys back into the letterbox before i knew my flight was a sure thing.

I would happily fly Ryanair again.

I've seen and read the site and have to say the guy's story does nothing to persuade me of anything other than the fact that anyone who flies with a low cost airline should read the terms and conditions as advised on the Ryanair website.

Low cost airlines' entire busines model depends on doing a point to point service, cutting out all the frills the traditional airlines offer you. It's like taking a bus instead of a taxi. It may not be the fastest or most convenient option but it's the cheapest.

Whatever about the website and Ryanair themselves - you couldn't drag me onto one of their planes, but each to their own - their lawyers claims are extremely troubling. They're claiming that yerman's publication of Ryanair staff email addresses on the site is in breach of the Data Protection Act, however, in Ireand at least, Data Protection law specifically doesn't apply to businesses, only "natural persons".

So unless Ryanair doesn't have an internal policy regarding use of Ryanair email accounts for personal business - extremely unlikely given Ryanair's nature - the claims are disingenuous. This would be naughty if it came from a Ryanair staff member, but when it comes from a lawyer, it's just plain illegal -- lawyers aren't allowed to make claims or accusations that are untrue, it's a very serious matter.

I agree that when you fly Ryanair, you can't expect much, but sometimes they take it a little to much into the realms of the surreal. My parents were on a fligth last year, where, before take off, the captain asked if anyone would mind getting off the plane to load the baggage! The perfect way to start a holiday!

eh no thanks. ya pay for a flight ya get a flight.still they are providing a service(shoddy as it sometimes is) and they do have an obligation to customers.when ya think about it nobodys kickin ya out of the airport if ur flights delayed for 12 hours, its up to urself if ya decide ya need a bed during that time.ive flown ryanair bout six times in as many months and never had any bother with them :)

While i would agree you get what you pay for,i do believe ryanair have a habit of overbooking flights and then coming up with the most ridiculous reasons to prevent people getting on flights or closing the gates ahead of time.

As of next Thursday new eu legislation comes into force, ensuring that all airlines must provide alternative arrangements, plus compensate customers between €125-€600 (depending on lenght of delay and journey distance) in the case of overbooked or cancelled flights.

Depending on the lenght of the delay, airlines must provide meals, use of phones and hotel accomodation. If the delay is more than 5 hours customers are entitled to both a refund of their ticket plus fully paid flights home with an other airline.

Obviously if bad weather causes the delays the airlines do not have to pay compensation but they must still provide the meals/accomodation.

i wonder if people can waive those rights in order to get cheaper fares.
i honestly believe that ryanair by ditching the service and providing flights and the mininmum of crew needed for insurance/safety have made a world of difference to air travel

i also believe that anyone who thinks ryanair are making things worse has missed the point completely.

im sure michael o leary and his band of merry men ;) have been factoring in these costs, but by pandering to the complaints of a vocal few i feel the majority of us will be paying extra for a facility we will probably never have to use.
and if we did end up in a situation like some of those mentioned would not feel the need to take up a complaint, as in some immortal words , sh!t happens.

basically my motto with ryanair is you pay you fare you take your chance.
if the plane is late YOU deal with it.
by taking a low fare you have waived the right to bitch and whine and moan

    [end of rant]

Am WTF!, Ryanair planes are late less often then Aerlingus. Stats here,
http://ryanair.com/press/2004/oct/cst-en-081004.html (I'm sure people will complain about them being published by Ryanairt so....

    http://archives.tcm.ie/breakingnews/2004/06/04/story150846.asp

Plus when passenger numbers grow by 20% it must be good. Just because you've had a bad experience, 93% of people out of 15,750 flights were on time. So STFU and stop complaining.

As of April, direct flights from Eindhoven to Dublin for 60 nicker - I can forgive Ryanair's fog-allergy for that kind of deal.
