DNS keeps failing

    Hey,

I have the standard EsatBT Modem (The ZyXEL) and a Buffalo WBR2-G54 Wireless Router.

This problem has only cropped up in the last 2 weeks, and I don't know why.

After about 10 minutes of the Router/Modem being on, the DNS stops working. There is still a connection, since a constant ping on google returns results, but if I cancel this ping and restart it, the PC can't find the host.

I've narrowed it down to going into "DSL Line Diagnostics" in the Modem and clicking "Reset ADSL Line" but this becomes somewhat annoying if you have to do it every 5 minutes. I've tried resetting both the modem and router to the factory settings... to no avail.

I know it's not just the PC, because I have 2 PC's and a Laptop all hooked up, and all failing at the same time.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I think I may have the same problem. Anything I have going, e.g a download works but I cant create any new connections etc. Also using Esat and ZyXEL

    Folks,
I had the same problem with my clicksilver account over the last week or so.
You could see the lan connection was up, but you could not open pages, 5 minutes after rebooting the modem. tried everything, used other modems all new drivers re-installed XP etc, still would not work.
Then at the weekend it just started working again. A friend of mine who works for an ISP told me that several of his customers had the same complaint and things started working again around the same time as me (last Friday). He reckons Eircom were working on the network and whatever they were at affected various folks using various providers.
    Best of luck
    Mick

Its happening again. Way too much. Heres some of the stats the modem is reporting, if that helps. Also I just noticed now that (and it hasn't happened again) when the DNS dies, the activity LED on the modem flashes between green and amber (when it normally just flashes amber)

    Anyway, stats:

Thanks for all your help, but it seems to have solved itself. I reset the modem and put back the exact same settings again - no problems since (thank god)
