Not sure where to stick this thread, mods feel free to move.

I tried 6 ATMS in Maynooth tonight and all of them failed to give cash to me or any other customer, I called my bank (AIB) and they stated that ATM's in th country were down and there was no ETA. Seems a bit weird that all banks ATM's rely on the one system!

AIB's system isn't too bad actually. I'm with BOI and i only found out recently that many of their ATM's run Windows 95 and Win 98

I very much doubt that this is the case...

I dont see why not, win 95 would be more stable and needs very little patching.

BTW just to clarify, last night ALL ATMS went down, i.e all banks.

Bank of Ireland ATM's ran NT4 when I lasted checked, and that was ~2 years ago. I doubt they have changed much.
    Win95 is not stable

    Riiiiiiight....

    Most of them run NT4.

There was some issue with credit cards yesterday. Guy in the shop told me they could take cash only cos all the credit card facilities were down, everywhere (i.e. not just in their shop). Dunno how right he was though.

I'm a BOI customer, I could not get money out of an AIB ATM (tried 3) last night but did manage to get it from a BOI ATM..

BOI are in the process of updating the system, was involved in packaging ATM software for XP deployment the only reason they are even changing OS is due to MS not supporting these OS.

Was there anything on the news about this? Seems a pretty major thing to happen without someone high-up calling attention.

Saw long queue this morning outside the BOI coolock. Both of the ATMs were not working. Got my cash from the Ulster bank fine.

    Only AIB ATMs were affected.

Nope thats not correct, I tried several ATM's with my AIB card and it didn't work and several other non-AIB customers were also unable to withdraw cash. Others in work said they were unable to use their credit cards at the time either.

with ulster bank havent had any problems. have used TSB machines to take out money last night and Bank of ireland machine today where something strange happened.

asked machine for fifteen euros, it said it couldnt give it out in that multiple. so i typed in €10 and it gave me ten euro in two fivers.

    strange.

that could still just be AIB's systems though, your card has to be verified off AIB in order to work in any other banks atm i would imagine......

maybe it only had 2 €5 notes left and no €10 notes?

where is this wonderful machine which gives out €5 notes? personally, as a student, i hate having to take out €10 or sometimes €20 when i only need €5 for lunch.

i went to three different atm's the other day before finding one that worked.

Re: Windows 95 & Windows 98 on ATM machines..

I've often walked up to a machine and seen a dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death - error msg for the non-techy).. :|

AIB, BOI, TSB or Ulster wouldnt work for me last night, or the Ulster Bank customers who couldnt get money also. highly annoying

they were working fine at half time so crisis was averted

Interesting, almost all Eircom's server went down today too... around 12pm people all over the country reporting 691 and 676 error's. I was called out of training to help dead with the onslaught of calls!

Was only logged in for 30mins, took 20 calls!
