Anybody ever been in the SFX in Dublin?

I heard that its really small and a great place to see a band because its such a personal venue... This came from a guy who saw Slayer/Machine Head in '94.

I also heard that its a really rough area around it.. or maybe thats the Red Box?

Yeah I was in it a good few times in the past to see the likes of Ozzy, Gary Moore, Mamas Boys to name but a few. It is a good small venue but its not really that bad around it. Its not like their wating for you to come out like and to smash your heads in. Its no different than the area surrounding the Point tbh. All in all it was the best venue for Rock for many years for all the big names 'til the likes of the Olympia and the Ambassador opened their doors for concerts and then the Point. It is and always will be a nice intimate venue for a small crowd.

Is it still open? I have/had a pumpkins gig from there in 95 on tape. It sounds absolutely deadly. My cousin was at it, said the sound was perfect.

Yeah, the SFX was a good venue for gigs, that Slayer one was a classic. I think it's just a theatre now though.
