What kind of inbred twit actually avails of this "service" !!!! Polyphonic tones are nothing more than midi files. You can download these from the internet for free if that is what jerks your chain !!!
Amen to that... spend like €15 on a data cable for your phone, never buy another ringtone.
You really have to wonder at the mentality of someone who has to have "the latest cool ringtones"... do people get slagged off for having a normal "ring ring" or "beep beep"?
Once the 57113 adds start coming on, I change channel and find something else to watch... most of the time I forget what I was watching, but it's worth it to not have to look at stupid wobbly-dancing phones.

Actually from this, you could argue that the adds work since I know the number... but they'll never get a penny out of me just for being such annoying cnts... If I do ever feel the need to buy a ringtone I'll be steering clear of them and anyone else who's tortured me with shít adds.

I know a lad at college who has it....its funny the first time, if you have digital its just mind numbing....

The amount of ringtone and wallpaper and game add's on teh box lately is unreal though. It's like every little chance they get theirs 3 of them in a row on! I don't know how they stay afloat because their can't be that big a demand on them when you can just as easily hold most phones up against the speaker and record them anyway for free. :D

Really annoying tho, email on its way

The system is partly a scam. My niece signed up for one of them one time to get some ringtone or other, but it wasn't overly advertised that they would continue to bill you monthly (like a membership). It also took her a while to get it disabled.

I haven't come across one in Real Life[TM] yet, but rest assured that when I do I'll kick the living crap out of the perpetrator on everyone's behalf.

Perhaps it's because I don't watch TV that I don't know this ad...has anyone got a link to it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,842 ✭✭✭steveland?

yeh the whole thing's a scam.

imo anyone who's dumb enough to text into it deserves to have up to 7quid a week taken out of their credit.

I just saw a crazy frog ad on the side of a page and i accidentely hovered the mouse over it and it played the sound :(

Is the frog really "anatomically correct"?

If it is, someone could ring live line and start a scandal about animal porn being advertised to kids on TV!

I'm usually against such puritanism but in this case, if those frog ads were gotten rid of, the end would have justified the means!

Just to add my support to this noble cause. Ban all ads related to telephonic services. All those "Phone Bar" ads are really ****ing annoying too. Yeah, like sure, I wanna spend €2 a minute to talk to some other sad lonely git...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,173 ✭✭✭✭seamus

    Stickied.

I just don't watch it. It gets turned off as soon as it comes on. I have yet to hear someone with it on their phone. If I do, it's getting rammed up their ass.

I was allways wondering if you should actually text four clipart Yoyos to them and see how they respond.
they ARE allways asking for yoyos

The ultimate solution, I think, to stop all these ads on TV is as following.

Someone needs to invent a decoder or TV which has a built in program that blocks adds i.e. stops ads from coming on the screen. Kinda similar to the ad blockers you can get for internet browsers. All you have to do is have a setting that switches from normal TV viewing to, lets say, music of your choice or something else, whenever a commercial break starts. It can be triggered by the splash screen that comes up for each channel.

Even if this device isn't invented by someone soon, if you watch TV through your PC, you could use some program to stop the ads from showing. It doesn't seem too difficult to do. Problem solved.

Then all the crappy television stations that rely on ads for extra income will hopefully go out of business cos no-one's watchin their ads and they won't get any new contracts for ads. :)

    Just a thought

Ah, if only. See, I work from home, and tend to leave the TV on all day. 'Time I got up and turned it off, it's gone...

Here's another thing that bugs me: Double ads. You know the ones, they make a passionate appeal for your donation of €1.23 a month, perhaps with an image of a doleful puppy taking it up the butt from a vicious and cruel german shepherd, and then come back a minute or two later to "remind" you. Because of the season it is, you get a string of these at the start and the end of every ad session. And of course there's the double "phone bar" ads, fifteen sections each, one after the other, designed by a being with slightly less intelligence than Booga from Tank Girl.

Was it TiVo or ReplayTV in the States just added "functionality" to their PVR's that'll stick an advert on the screen when you're fast-forwarding past the ads? (But actually it probably wouldn't be too difficult to do this if you were using MythTV or one of the other open source PVR yokes.)

    I seriously hope you're joking...

From the people who own crazy frog -

"The charts that appear on MTV are sadly based on the most popular ringtone downloads, so if you see SouthPark and the Crazy Frog up there, that is because they are the most regularly downloaded, and make us the most money.

The reason the ads appear twice is because most impulse buys occur on the second viewing. People see the first ad, see something they like (sometimes) and then buy on the second ad.

The frequency of the ads is optimised from a sales perspective. These ads appear at a rate which produces the most sales.

The Crazy Frog has been around for a while, you are right, but we recently purchased the rights to the sound for use in the UK. It will be pushed until sales fall off to a level where it no longer makes us any money.

I know that the Crazy Frog ad is a bit annoying (a bit!).
With this sort of "in your face" direct response marketing, there is a real love/hate reaction.

For regular viewers of any one of these channels, any advertising which appear regularly like this loses it's flavour quickly, and it then becomes an irritation.

Because we work on a direct response basis, we can tell how successful everything is, pretty much exactly. So this is the format which currently gives us the most sales. You will see things constantly changing slightly as the most profitable format is determined.

You are going to see the Crazy Frog on the web too, as it is rolling out in a bit way. Currently Crazy Frog sales have exceeded anything else which I have done in the past. There is no escape from him.

Not wanting to preach, but we live in a world driven by consumer response. If people were not buying ringtones in huge volumes, we could not advertise them with such intensity. In a sense, we are victims of our own drive to buy.
There was a comparison of our ads to the Sun newspaper. You would be surprised how closely our target groups match.

As for the ads on MTV2, I will just say that they appear becasue they are cost effective. The tones which are featured are the ones that sell.

Something which I have always found difficult to understand is that no-one is forced to watch an advert. If it is so grating and annoying, simply turn over, or turn off."

    Why?
Crazy frog is a pox. A pox of this earth. The tone itself and everyone who has ever supported it must be cleansed. A banning is only halfway there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭Kêrmêttê

I've never seen those ads, probably because I stopped watching MTV when they stopped playing music videos. I do hate all those ring tone ads with a passion. They shouldn't be on the tv so much... ffs, it's a form of abuse!!!

On the other hand... this crazy frog is gonna be around for a long time :D

Haven't seen the ad thankfully, though did click the above link.

If it's still in your head, go download this file, and play it real loud.

More, if you're an F1 geek like me.

TV's in the other room. I have enough gadgets without trailing a remote control around the flat too.

And no, I won't buy another one. Let me rant mindlessly in peace!
