They're a mixed bunch. Some I can't stand, but others really get you in the christmas mood.

I hate Christmas songs aswell. (Bah humbug...) I'd have say Fairytale of New York is the most bearable though.

"santa baby hurry down the chimney tonight"

    also

    "rockin robin *tweet* tweetily-deet* "

Elvis has a lot of Christmas songs, but some of the best are -

Santa Clause is Back in Town - A real bluesy rock song from 1957
I'll Be Home For Christmas - Played at the end of Lethal Weapon 1. A real christmassy feeling song, that warms the soul..
If Every Day Was Like Christmas - A little known gem from 1966. Hauntingly 'Christmas'.

I urge you to check them out if you haven't heard them.. though I know you probably won't :)

    Kevin.

well only if you're referring to the original one.......not that muck thats out now! ;)

oh oh oh, "Lonely This Christmas"...........i love that one. so cool!

    and for a funny one:

"grandma got run over by a reindeer
walking home from our house christmas eve,
you can say theres no such thing as santa
but as for me and grandpa we believe"
    :D

Oh jesus DEFINITELY the original one...
The new one is just... f**king... awful...

Ya know it's the 3rd time they've "redone" the song? And each time it's worse than the last... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,534 ✭✭✭Blisterman

Who else redid it and why? It's not even a good song to begin with.

I like "An Oíche Úd i mBeithil".

I'm not keen on pop Christmas songs - they're too tacky.

"santa baby hurry down the chimney tonight"

I second marilyn monroe's Santa Baby

my second choice is "let it snow" if that's the name of it, by dean martin i think

Fairytale of new york is classic but i've heard it sooooo many times.

bandaid is played even more, and it wasn't as good to start with. Kudos to Geldof though...

Every classic Christmas song sung by Elvis or Deano is better than any other one EVER. And that's a fact.

In fact, if you sing ANY song like Elvis would, it sounds better. I invite any of you to prove me wrong.

'It'll be lonely this Christmas, without you to hold, it'll be lonely this Christmas, lonely and cold, it'll be COLD so CO-OH-OLD....'

Fairytale of New York would've been better as a duet by Elvis and Deano.

Fariytale of New York is definitely the best - Saw Shane McGowan and some woman sing it live at the freshers ball one of the years, it was absolutely brilliant :D

Also like the original bandaid if I'm drunk and around other drunk people who want to sing along to it.

And like someone else said I've loved "Oh holy night" ever since I saw it in home alone. It can really send shivers down your spine if its sung properly!

Fairytale of New York - nice anti-christmas song - and if Elvis did it the sound might be better but not the emotion or sentiment , poor old Kirsty...
    That one from slade
Frank Kelly's one is a bit over played but still worth a listen

Any christmas song where the people are having fun - not the commercial ones that only look like they are having fun

Eartha Kitt - best santa baby - (not that's it's great but the best version)

"No Xmas For John Quays" by The Fall , and "A Junkie's Christmas From Interzone" by William Burroughs. Not really a song but 'tis beautiful...when you look beyond the nastiness...

has to be Fairytale of New york. I remember they used to always play the video on The Den. The one with a young Matt Dillon as a cop. Haven't seen it in ages.
Heard a xmas song on the radio that was fairly nice and christmassy. goes something like 'we all stand together, la la la la'. know I heard it before. anyway it's good.
In fact I miss all the videos, Shakin Stevens in Santa's workshop, George Michael throwing snowballs, and of course Mariah Carey frolicking in the snow! Happy days...

White Christmas - Bing & Frank...the best ever.

It can bring tears to my eyes......

Drummer Boy...Bing Crosby & David Bowie. Classic.

I prefer the oldies when it comes to Christmas.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,575 ✭✭✭elivsvonchiaing

Already said by Woosaysdan: Kevin "Bloody" Wilson's cracker - "Santa Claus You Cúnt!" - this is the most useful Christmas song - to clear out the hangers on :D I'll just put on this lovely CD I found during the week and pop out for a smoke - come back 5 mins later - "Jayson!" :D They tend to clear out fairly quickly then :p (the wrinklies that is - the risk is you end up stuck with people your own age for a mother of a drinkin' session :D )

You strictly have to gauge this one!

Will do if we ever meet. Luv the songs! ;)

about time, someone with a bit of taste, has to be David Bowie
/Bing crosby Drummer boy and also dean martin let it snow.
There is another one with the line" they say there'll be snow at christmas, they say there'll be peace on earth" dont know the name of it but a really good song.
Sorry about everyone who is "Fairytale of new york" but that has got to be one of the worst songs in the history of christmas. It has been played to death for at least another centuary.

I only like christmas songs because they remind me of christmas. That's why new ones don't seem as good.

from CZar I second marilyn monroe's Santa Baby

This isn't Marilyn Monroe. She never sang "Santa Baby". It's Cynthia Basinet - www.cynthiabasinet.com

    Saaw this== www.prweb.com/releases/2004/10/prweb167127.htm:

Cynthia Basinet has had the dubious distinction of being mistaken for Marilyn Monroe. The breathy screen legend never recorded "Santa Baby," and in fact, the highly popular version was recorded by the sexy redheaded actress and recording artist, Cynthia Basinet (aka "c. basinet").

ALso, in the film, "Party Monster".
