Diagonal cloud rising from ground

    I saw a very interesting cloud shape the other day, and I'm just wondering if it's shape could tell me anything about climate conditions that day.

    It was a cloud rising from the ground in a diagonal fashion upwards. It graduated in coulour from dark gray at the bottom near the ground to a lighter shade at the top.

    Is there a name for this formation, and what can it tell me?

    That a jet left an airport in that general direction and began climbling in a diagonal line (as they do) a short while before you started looking at the "cloud" in question ? :p

    If a jet can leave a contrail about 200ft in width, then perhaps...

    come on, something useful please :)

    I've never seen a cloud shaped like this before

    It was probably fog being lifted by a thermal and pushed along in a small overhead breeze current. Often see it happen over the river nore in the wee hours.
