Crypto books

Can anyone recommend some decent crypto books? I've read the pedestrian ones, like "The Code Book" and "Crypto", now I'd like to actually learn more about the actual science of crypto, rather than the history of it. I'd ideally like to get my hands on a copy of "Applied Cryptography", but nowhere around Dublin seems to stock it. Recommendations?

Applied Cryptography you mean?
Also check out "Secrets and lies", Bruce Schenier's other book. Not directly about crypto, more about crypto systems and how they're used in security.

What about the Handbook of applied crypto?
(It's available for free on the web somewhere.. Do a search)

Well, Bruce Schneier's Applied Cryptography is the standard work. It nicely combines theory and practice and is pretty readable to boot.

Waterstones had copies last time I was there (few weeks ago)

His other book, "Secrets and Lies", while good, is more security oriented and not very technical.
