I have heard stories that the porn industry in Ireland is run by criminals and i was only worried for the safet of my friends (and me because im directing it)

From what I gather there is criminal activity in the area, in particular with escort sites. However, most are small nixer type operations run by freelance webmasters (much like reseller hosting is often done by them).

Reading this thread is an eye-opener tbh. I never thought it went on here (apart from couples private home -movies) certainly not at an industrial level.

I used to run a porn website here in Ireland, although it wasn't a .ie, I had to have it hosted in the US due to the way the law was written, it used to be under a .net address.

I advertised very little & it pulled in about £300/£400 of the old Irish punts a month. It cost me $200 plus a 25% share of the income going to the hosting company.

All images on it were sent to me by Irish people, I used to get them to photograph themselves with a copy of the herald or Sunday world or something to authenticate, so it didn't cost me anything for content.

It was a lot of hassle though & I eventually gave it up, even having that extra cash every month wasn't worth going through about three hours of extra work a night, every night. I reckon if I was doing it full time (as someone I know does, with several sites), I'd probably be pulling in about €100k+ a year, but it wasn't really a career path I wanted to go down...

I did get sent photos of one of my neighbours daughters though sent in by her boyfriend & a friend's wife with her girlfriend sent by him though...

I've never told either of them & it still brings a smile to my face.

iMax, you didn't pay any of these people to send in photos, they just forwarded them gratis? And did they know it was for the web? Also, how did these people find you, classified ads?

No-one got paid - apart from me

I placed ads in the likes of "In Dublin", on Irish "Lifestyle" websites & in Irish Newsgroups.

The site wasn't sexy-eire, it was another one but I'm not going to name it (it's gone now but no point in raking up the past). Everyone who submitted the pics knew it was for the web & got a free membership in return, some requested that faces be obsecured which I did, others just let them be.

I don't have any of the content anymore so unfortunatly the bunch of people who PMd me looking for stuff will have to look elsewhere.

For the eight months or so that I ran it it made money - starting at £70 the first month, which turned into £170 the second month - so by eight weeks in I was making money after my initial outlay.

I just kind of lost interest after that, it wasn't my lifestyle choice to be involved in it anymore & the money wasn't enough of an incentive. Plus the fact that I kept expecting to see my face on the cover of the Sunday World one week. They actually covered the website in one edition (there's a surprise), & I got 15 new members that month on top of the steady 10 or so that regularly joined, but I got such a shock seeing my site in their paper that I was a little uneasy for the following weeks.
