The pc at work here is crashing like mad and gets very warm so i decided to look inside the case and the cpu fan isn't spining.
It says socket 7 on the plastic the cpu sits in.
I measured the fan to be 50x50 or diameter 60 but i'm not sure if i measured it from the right sides, hitide has 40x40mm fans but i'm guessing the are for a nb not for on the cpu heatsink of a p1.
The psu fan isn't working either but i dont think thats as big an issue as the one for the cpu.
Anyone have any idea what the right size is and where i can get a fan?

    40mm fan should be fine.

Socket7 heatsinks can be robbed off anything.

    Is t deffinately a vanilla Pentium1?

Not an MMX or an AMD chip?

Socket 7 Socket 370 ( pentium 3 ) and Socket A ( used for athlon chips up until the athlon 64 ) are identical in size, so you can use any of those heatsinks, much better than hunting for a crappy 40mm fan.

    Lookie here: http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=119407&cks=PRL

Its 9 euro, and will do the job. Yes, its overkill, but it will fit grand on the motherboard.
I wouldn't leave the psu running without a fan. If it was ok without a fan, would they have bothered putting one in it in the first place?
Any 80mm fan will do for the psu, you can rip one out of a busted pc.

It's a p1, thinking about it i'm actually not sure if its a p1. It did say socket 7 in the plastic the cpu sits in.
If the heatsink in the link fits will a heat sink a my amd 2500+ work, not using it anyway?
Don't really fancy opening the psu. I think the pc has done without both fans for ages, it does make the case very warm to touch.
    Cheers for the replies
