I am shocked to hear that at 33 and an apparent music fan, you had never heard a Pixies song. I have to say as well, this is the first time i've ever heard The Pixies referred to as a band that only music snobs like. If anything they are the complete opposite of that, which is why they were so ****ing popular in the 80s and very early 90s.

Seriously, buy or download Death to the Pixies and see if you still don't like them.

OK, so what was the first Chilli's album you ever bought? I am laying odds that it was either Californication or By The Way :)

Now now I never implied that the Pixies were for the music snobs. I just said that anybody we spoke to about the Pixies spoke in a D4 accent that's all.

As for your last suggestion I don't think I'll bother:D

As for slutmonkey57b. If your arguements are as non constructive as slagging off spelling then why do you bother turning on your pc

Older Chili's stuff had soul. The crap on By the Way doesn't. Californication still had a remnant of it but it was more an eclectic album than anything else. Pixies. That is soul man! Pixies songs are about energy and not really having a point but not needing one either! That's why it's so good. It doesn't need to be but it is, and the world is a better place because of bands like the Pixies. Bands like them are the reason we have an underground scene in the first place! Just because "All your friends think it's crap", doesn't mean they're right and the rest of the crowd, who were screaming like demons for the Pixies, are wrong. I'd think it's more than a bit self-centred to think that, don't you?

Oh and by the way, racism? Towards "knackers"? That's as much an insult to them as calling them knackers in the first place, saying that they're of a different cultural or ethnic background to the rest of us! Act your age. Grow up!

That's fair enough, I just didn't understand why you'd mentioned it is all.

heh you are such a twat. Your 30 somthing and youve never even*heard of* never mind *heard* the pixies ? That I find hard to understand , You are obviously into terrible music  easy listening catchy radio friendly stick it up your bum ****e yes ?

Even people who dont like the pixies appreciate them for what they did to music. Watch that documentry "Gauge" and see the likes of David Bowie, Radiohead , U2:rolleyes: talk about how they influenced them and how they wouldnt be here today ETC Also seriously influenced people like Kurt Kobain.

Dont get me wrong not everyone is gonna like them but if your a big music fan you should at least of heard of them...

I find alot of pixies songs to be really catchy ( Debaiser ? )

Also that remark about the D4 accents is so rediculous I dont know where to begin... I have met many many pixies fans in my life and I have honestly never met a posh one...

Fair plait of ye I've had a good laugh at the comments. Some a little over the top like calling me a twat, knacker etc. Think that's a lot on the dictator side of things (freedom of speech etc). You guys need to lighten up. I have never heard of the Pixies until now and I won't be rushing out to buy or download any of their stuff but hey that's me. It's not my taste in music. Good luck to ye. Hope to meet ye again on other threads:D :p

There were 14 ambulances there and they were all continuously busy. There were older women with broken noses, a man with a damaged spine, numerous people who'd drunk too much a some who'd taken too many drugs, and there was one man who was even impaled! I know this from speaking to one of the civil defence ambulance drivers.

    Proud to be Irish

This is what happens when you let knackers go to concerts , they should be tested at the door and be rated 1-10 ( 10 being filthy knacker ) . anything over 3 and they should be turned away :p

What the fuk did he get impaled on? A bottle? Or maybe one of those floating jonnies some.... strange person had inflated? lol. Only in Ireland. I'd say it took about three ambulances to get rid of that tool who climbed the speaker tower when the bouncers were done with him! :D

    LOL
you aint a music fan, well if you are you probably by albums like anastacias last one or daniel beddingfield (i dont care if i misspelt it)

Plus the statement, "I've always been listening to music" doesnt really mean anything.
    The whole world does.
the majority just listen to bad music.
I had to leave after the first chillis song, far too pretentious for my liking.

The pixies, unassuming, no need to dance around the stage like a moron, were just brilliant.

What's so great about the Pixies?
Their lyrics don't make any sense! "Our love is rice and beans and horses' lard"... what does this mean?

The lead singer can't even sing... he just screeches the whole time... what's so great about that?

Seriously, why are the Pixies classified as good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

    Because they are.

Bear in mind, the Pixies started in 1987. In those days, there weren't many bands who were doing what the Pixies did in terms of screaming and energy. You have to bear their originality in mind when you're deciding whether you like them. Also, they're very much an acquired taste. It took me a very short time to get into them compared with other people I know.

Rice and beans was the name of their record label, and horse's lard is served with Rice and beans in Puerto Rico where Charles Thompson spent a year studying.

Don't feel bad if you don't like it, just don't listen to it, if you don't like the sound or the music, our reasons for liking them aren't going to make a difference. :dunno:

Frank Blacks voice is absolutely brilliant , he screams alot but he can also sing in the classical sence, I suggest you listen to some of his solo stuff and see for yourself.

I should have been listening to more Pixies back then instead of Sonic Youth or Butthole Surfers or...

    :)

Yeah now you've got the idea Gyck, you shouldn't have been wasting your time with drone merchants like Sonic Youth and the butthole surfers. They truly were ****e and the passage of time has surely affirmed this.

Nah, you should have listened to more Pixies, but not at the expense of Sonic Youth.

I'm with Marq on this. Listen to more Pixies, and more great bands in general, but not at the expense of other great bands like Sonic Youth.

Ahhha! That makes me feel good!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Pixies, I'm just saying that wayyyy back then there were many more bands making an impression on me than the Pixies. If I had had the time and money and where with all to take them all in I'd be a happy man. However I wasn't, but that won't change my opinion of those bands. The Pixies have a higher opinion/profile than the bands I mentioned, and for very good reason: I'll play Trompe Le Mode faster than I'll play Sister or Locust Abortion Technician, becaue to me the sounds (of the Pixies) are easier to listen to. But back then for me they had the same vitality, and I'll always have the same respect for those bands, regardless of how they have remained in the public memory.
