"HA!" Zmek grins distainfully at the look of shock on the other's faces, a feint wheeze hissing between his teeth from the effort. The usualy glimmering twinle in his peripheral vision that he experieced each time he channeled was this time a flashing torture of dagger lights, piercing his mind and blinding him for a second. He shook it off with a flick of his hair, hiding the discomfort he felt.

"So much for your defence against flux users...how long have they been inoperative? I suppose you don't know, everyone just assumed you couldn't channel so nobody tried...Ha!" Zmek wobbled slightly but took a few steps to hide it.

"This was no opportunist raid, this was planned. The glyphs were disabled in advance....but you probably can't tell us how far in advance...I still smell a rat here".

Now that Kaylen is....otherwise engaged, Gaunt takes the opportunity to wander without interference first through the storage area and then moving onto the guard's barracks.

"Maybe station control can make something of the number on the locker key?

    **What's a "cdr?"**

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

Commissar you'll have to COMS station control on the COMS channel if you want that info on the numbers otherwise you'll just be saying it out loud which would look rather odd.

(im well impressed that you and squall are actually using station control for help its the one thing that Op's forget to do in nearly every game of SLA i've run bonus brownie points for you)

sorry (thats the big geek in me) CDR --> Cd-recordable its a fancy way of saying a copied (burnt) CD

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 148 ✭✭tank

tank will take the CDR to one of the computer terminals and try to access the contents of the CD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭Squall

*Squall reads the number on the magnetic id badge and taps his com bead to station control*

    COMS CHANNEL
    >

Squall moves to the terminal where tank is working on the CDR and watches him try to hack it.

    [game turn 6] [Part 1]

As your squad gathers up its things and prepares to move out You are met again by the ebon page who leads you to the end of the complex back through the maze of labs that twist and turns once you reach the glass corridor page takes the wrist bands from you zmek andTali suddenly feel the power of the ebb rush back into you at full strength. as you are lead out of the dark lament facility Mr venture is standing talking with the receptionist they both stop talking and stare at you silently as you leave. once you step outside the cold harsh climate of mort hits you square in the face the wind and the rain beat down on your armour as you shield your face from the relentless rain "mmm looks like a storm is brewing" mutters one of the dark finders as escort you to a cordoned off section behind huge concrete walls. touch down area is about 100M square and as you enter it you see as promised there are 2 dark lament APC's waiting for you powered up and engines revving one of the APC's just about fits the stormer and the rest of you cram into the other APC.

And with that you find yourselves racing through the streets and back alleys of Uptown MORT. sped on by the fact that mort has no traffic jams as normal civilians cannot afford cars, means you arrive in double quick time to the wallgate that separates uptown mort (the posh snobby area) from downtown mort (picture mega city 1 from judge dread) the wallgate is a massive adamantium reinforced 75 foot high wall with guard towers at every 20M intervals, at each tower there are dual linked MAL assault cannons you can also see there is a constant shiver presence with regular foot patrols on both the wall and ground (and even air) units, once you reach the wall normally you would have to pass rigorous inspection of both you and your veichele however with dark lament personal inside the veichele you are let through a special archway and into a private tunnel that leads through the 1500M thick walls, once on the other side the APC's stops and you are told to get out. as the door's of the APC open you are greeted by a distant rumble of thunder and a flash of lighting across the sky which briefly illuminates they area casting shadows at strange angles. you are led across a courtyard to what looks like the entrance to a VERY large tunnel there are HUGE IRON gates blocking the tunnels and a guard tower at either side with 10 or so hover bikes (they look like the speeder bikes from return of the jedi) as you all grab a bike the sergeant turns to you and says "we can only keep the tunnel gate open for a few seconds so get on them bikes and get your ass through there".

You all hop onto a free speeder bike and as you power is up you feel yourself start to hover about a foot off the ground. your heart starts racing you feel an adrenaline rush surge threw you as you feel the huge turbine engines on the bikes powering up once at full power the huge IRON gates creak open slowly and just before you speed into the open mouth of the tunnel the huge MAL assault cannons on both towers open up on fully auto sending a hail of support fire ahead of you into the dark tunnel to clear a path for you, the sergeant screams "GO" above another blast of thunder and lighting the auto cannons stop firing and you hurtle at break neck speeds into the unknown darkness of the tunnels.......

    [end of part one]

sorry to have to do this guys but i have to leave it there im not in work today or tomorrow but i'll post the next part on saturday morning.

Hurtling down the tunnel at breakneck speed Squall concentrates on not ploughing into a wall and ending his SLA career prematurely. Scanning the tunnel ahead with his sensitive Shaktar eyes he watches for any movement ready to react at a moment. Quickly looking behind him at the strange squad he now leads, the stormer looks akward on his oversized speeder, Zmek looking as though he was born on a bike his trenchcoat waving as he crouches low, Gaunt hanging on with grim determination on his face, and Tal'eania casual as usual. Returning to scanning the tunnel he watches for a sign of the train.

Again apologies for leaving you all but I had to rush to Dublin for a while so without further adduce the concluding part of tonight’s thrilling episode “what really goes bump in the night”

    [Game Turn 6] [[Part 2]

With the sound of the automatic fire of the MAL cannon’s ringing in your ears squall tears off into the lead and disappears into the deep dark underground passageways that will lead you to the transit system. You have been told that you will need to take these tunnels that run under lower downtown MORT skimming cannibal sector 2 you will then find a secure hatch that will lead you to the transit system, as the rest of the squad follows squall into the darkness you remember your mission briefing on the way in the APC from the dark finders.

You were told that the hover bikes would bring you to the secure entry point into the transit system (the bike has a Nav-Map with a little red blinking dot to the North so your guessing that’s where you have to go) once at the entrance to the transit system you will need to enter the code 117591 to gain access to the airlock and then lifts which will bring you down into the transit system. Also the shiver CO has asked you very sternly but very politely to NOT TO FORGET TO CLOSE AND LOCK THE DOORS after you enter the transit system as the last thing they need is a bunch of cannibals or worse serial killers running around loose underground.

With a start you come back to your senses as a large shape rears up in front of you it vaguely resembles a man at one point it could have been a human now its more like a twisted shell of a man humanoid in shape and you now realise what the MAL assault cannon’s were firing at. There was a cannibal family at the mouth of the tunnel as the gates opened and were chewed to bits by the ensuing automatic cannons. Unfortunately it looks like one survived, as you are all travelling at break neck speeds the only thing you can try to do is avoid him as if you hit him your hover bike would probably explode. All but Geist and tank manage to avoid the large lumbering figure that springs up at you Geist being the more cautious among the group was travelling at a lower speed but didn’t see him in time and geist’s bike plough's straight into the lone surviving cannibal geist is thrown from his bike and lands heavily in the mud and dirt the wind knocked from his lungs, as the dizziness fades away geist sees that when he lost control the bike swerved off smashed into the side wall and the flaming wreckage rebounded back and hit the cannibal square in the chest a thin smile spreads across geist’s lips as if in slow motion he sees the cannibal torn limb from limb by the huge turbine engines of his very own bike, you have sprained you hand but with your medical skill you should be able to heal up once you reach the safety of the transit system.

Tank was last in the group and doesn’t actually hit the cannibal, as by the time he gets there geist bike turned the fully grown man into a bloody carcass and gibs on the ground. Tank actually glances off the remains of geist’s bike, which it is totally destroyed as tank jams on the brakes and does a full 360-degree doughnut in mid air and the bike crunches into the side of the wall. However it is still functional as far as tank can tell. Tank swings back around with the bike as geist will have to hang on for dear life as the hulking mass of the stormer takes up most of the room on the bike you are able to just about fit on.

Once you reach the end of the tunnels you come to a small re-enforced hatch which looks like it has taken quite a beating of the last few months, you stop and park the bikes a few feet away from the hatch and begin to walk towards the hatch you notice that a large group of shapes is lumbering slowly in your direction down a side tunnel there are too many to fight by the looks of it but you cannot see anyway of opening the hatch. You can now hear their footsteps echoing and the mumbling of there voices around the tunnel. Gaunt notices (FINALLY) that there is a small keypad concealed to the side of the hatch and as you punch in the code 117591 the hatch opens. Just in time for you all to clamber in and rush down the hatch as you slam it behind you, you can hear the slamming and pounding of hands, feet and most probably rocks and clubs on the hatch above you. The ladder leads down into a small room with what looks to be a cargo lift again the doors are sealed shut and there is a small keypad on the wall next to It. As instructed you enter the code 117591 and the lift doors open as you enter the lift there are only two buttons an arrow pointing “UP” and an arrow pointing “DOWN”, after a few moments to calm yourselves you press the down button and descend into the murky depths of the transit system.

The lift brings you out into a very large tunnel there are huge industrial size artificial lights at regular intervals lighting up the way. And is a single Rail track in the middle of the tunnel (for those that have played half-life on the PC you’ll know what I mean when I now say gauze rail the intro at the start of the game that’s the transit system)
As you begin to walk along the tunnel in the direction of the train you can hear above and below you other trains on other tunnels hurtling along at almost the speed of sound at more that once point giving you the impression that there is a train just around the corner waiting to plough into you… of course there isn’t. about a half a mile down the tracks you can see the lights of the train stretching off however you have herd that these gauze rail trains can be up to 2 miles long so you cant actually see what’s blocked the train. It also looks like the train had been refuelling as there is a platform just up ahead about 1000M away once the train had finished refuelling it had started on its way again and then had been stopped. There is no sign of the other operative team that was sent the clear the blocked train and your COMS channel is severely limited this deep below the surface of MORT you cannot get in contact with the OPS (you can try central if you like) as you approach the refuelling platform its deathly quite with only the sound of the electric lighting on the platform to keep you company the squad turns to look at squall to see what his orders are.

    [End of Turn]

    ____________________________________________

Bloody hell that was long wasn’t it. Promise the game turns wont be as long as that from now on but at least you’re here now map will be provided as usual if you want one. Let me know and I’ll do one up for you guys.

Gaunt and Zmek with me. Tank and Geist with Tal'Eania.

Well check out the platform you move up along the train and see if you can locate the other operatives. Keep an open channel at all times.

*Squall taps his com bead to Central*

    COMS CHANNEL --->

Take it slow Tal'Eania. Well join you as soon as we investigate the platform. Do not engage the target unless your sure you can neutralise it first time.

With that Squall moves towards the platform rifle in hand continuosly scanning left to right. The hunt had begun......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 148 ✭✭tank

Tank will take the lead in front of geist and Tali as this really is what stormers are bred for, not very stealthy however the ebon in the train must realise by now that someone would be coming down to clear this mess up. scanning the paremiter for any signs of movement he arrpoaches the back of the train right by the emergency service hatch entrance and then COMS squall

    > see COMS channel.

readying his auto shotgun loading the solid slug rounds tank prepares for an assault on the first carriage of the gauze train. priming a flashbang and securing it on his belt ready to throw at a moments notice tank readies the shotgun and waits for the order to move in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

tank your on your own as thead and havelock cant play at the moment so for the time being were going to spice things up little

    Additional game turn for tank:

tank as you approach the gauze rail train ahead of Tali and geist you thought you catch something to your left as if something was looking at you however, following orders you reach the train and secure the entrance ready to breech bang and clear you turn around to give orders to Tali and Geist......... and they are not there!!!!
your team mates are gone and they are not responding on the COMS channel
something loomes out of the shadows to your left!! what the hell is going on!!

    [end of turn]

K tank here's where it gets nasty you've just been surprised by something looming out of the shadows. could be Tali or geist, could be the other squad that was sent down here OR it could be a canabal that has found its way down here into the system you have until midnight to tell me what you want to do then i'll randomly choose one thing if you dont tell me. shoot it or dont shoot it up to you really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 148 ✭✭tank

remianing relaxed and calm tank puts his back to the carriage pumping the shotgun and flicking the safey off the shotgun he will not fire instead tank will throw a flashbang grenade in the direction of the looming shape and shout FIRE IN THE HOLE and duck for cover.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

    [Game turn 7]

    Gaunt and Zmek and squall

As you see team 1 disappear into the murky shadows of the underground tunnel towards the Gauze train 1/2 a mile down the track the 3 of you approach the refuelling platform with caution and stealth creeping along the side wall of the tunnel
you reach the outer gates to the platform and creep up onto the platform, all is deathly quiet nothing moves, the platform still seems to be operational there are no signs of sabotage and the power in still on. about 5 feet away from you standing on the platform itself are 5 control droids, these are big hulking humanoid robots which are standing motionless heads down. most probably you think they are used to refuel the train once it stops here however they require human interface to work. there is a control booth at the end of the platform.

you reach the end of the platform the door to the platform control room has been blown from its hinges and hangs at an awkward angle wedged into the doorway. with a little bit of effort you remove the blockage and make your way into the control room. there is no sign of anyone however the pungent smell of blood reeks from the place however there are no bodies anywhere. most of the control room panels are smashed and there defiantly looks like there was a fight of some sort here there is a little bit of blood on one of the keyboards at a terminal but nothing more who ever was here has been and gone. as you re emerge you get a COMS from tank followed by FIRE IN THE HOLE and you can a large bright flash erupt from the direction of the gauze train

    tank

The Flashbang goes off with a resonating boom around the small enclosed tunnel your caught up in the blast but only take half damage your stunned for this turn and the next one too (sorry you have to miss out on game turn 8) but other than that your fine. (now pay in mid your stunned not unconscious for a stormer that means a pretty big headache and flashing lights in front of your eyes. but you can still see about a half a foot in front of you so if what ever you threw the grenade at is still conscious you'll see it coming.

    Tali and geist

    MIA

    [End of turn]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 353 ✭✭Commissar

Hearing Tank's message and seeing the flashbang at the train Gaunt jumped onto the tracks and scuttled 20 yards down the tunnnel where he crouched in the shadows, weapon at the ready and watching for movement.
Only years of training stop his imagination from going into over-drive on whatever could have taken Geist and Tali so quickly and quietly and then surprised Tank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭Squall

Seeing the flash from the direction of the train Squall crouches low.

"Gaunt, Zmek. Standard spread pattern. Keep your eyes open, watch for friendlies"

Moving down the track, head moving left to right searching the encroaching darkness. Clicking the safety on his rifle he moves slowly towards the train trusting the squad to do the same.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Specky

"Friendlies..." Zmek repeats the work mockingly "...when did I ever meet a friendly?"

Despite his apparant attitude he slips silently into a shadow and peers down the track. Tali was probably playing some game or taking a solo run at an idea she'd had along the way, that was her nature. But he couldn't be sure and with high level Ebons around there might be more than meets the eye out there.

He tries to detect recent flux useage in the area, reaching out with his mind to tap into the tiny eddies and waves that might still resonate here.

This creeping in the shadows is not his way. More likely to set off booby traps and stumble over trip wires this fumbling in the dark is for amateurs. Staring at the end of the train he picks a spot next to the emergency exit he can see, draws his FEN and taps his comms bead.

"See you later friendlies" he says quietly then reality folds to the spot at the back of the train.

    [Game turn 8]

    Geist and Tali

    MIA

    geist back (next game turn)

    Tank

Your still a little groggy but able to move around after the flash bang goes off over to your left you can make out a shape lying on the ground it isnt moving yet, you slump back down with your back resting against the back of the train. the hair of the back of your neck starts to rise and to your immediate left for just a brief moment the back of the train seems to bend out of shape in a weird distorted angle as reality itself seems to bend out of shape and there standing next to you is zmek

    zmek

As squall and gaunt proceed down the tracks you smirk to yourself "walking is for apes" and draw ebb into yourself and channel the flux as you bridge the gap between your position and the train you fold and appear right next to a bewildered looking tank he's lying down on the ground slumped next to the train.

    Squall and gaunt

You slowly creep down the tracks towards the train the hair on the back of your necks rise you turn around and zmek is gone.
nothing moves in the large cold dark tunnel. your footsteps echo and you crunch on the gravel. you make it all the way to the train to find zmek already waiting there for you and tank lying on the ground slumped up against the back of the train something catches squalls eye..... there's someone of the roof of the train!!!!

    [end of turn]

*Stopping before reaching Zmek and Tank, Squall coms Zmek*

    COMS CHANNEL--->

    *Squall turns to Gaunt*

Lets get onboard the train. Use the emergency entrance. Do it quietly.

Moving toward the train squall heads towards the emergency exit.

Gaunt scuttled up to the tail end of the train, shoulders hunched; half expecting to be shot from the train roof by the unknown shadow glimpsed up there. Nearing the end of the train he clasped his weapon to his chest, eyes straining to see anything through the gloom and the deep shadows only made worse by the dim light from the train.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 148 ✭✭tank

Tank tried to pick himself up still a little woozy from the concussion blast "Im ok guys thanks, i guess i shoulda zigged when i zagged" using the back of the train for support tank picks himself up off the ground and leans against the train "i'll be ok in a few seconds i got caught in the blast myself" tank points to the dark shape on the ground over to his left "i threw the grenade and that thing over there..... i think its still alive"

"i need a few more mintues to catch my breath and i just herd geist on the COMS channel tho i didnt hear what he said so i guess he's still alive"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Specky

The moment Zmek materialises at the far end of the carriage he steps to the side of the corridor and crouches low, concealing himself behind the jutting seat back. Flux discharge makes a metalic taste at the back of his mouth. Ebons or wasters, he knows not which, were here and channeling recently.

Tali perhaps...but no sign of her now and no comms either. The possibility of her death does not move him. Instead he nonchalontly removes the gloch from its under-arm holster and checks the magazine.

Leading with the muzzle of the gun he swings briskly into the corridor, remaining low and sweeping the gun to spot any threats that might be in his path then steps lightly out into the doorway of the train. Glancing down the track he catches the ladder onto the train roof with his free hand and steps out onto the shiney rung, adjusting his foothold until he is happy that it is firm.

He pauses, listening...almost invible in the gloom his black coat like a cape, his albino hair shimmering slightly in the semi-reflected light from the carriages.

With a thrust of his legs he leaps several rungs higher before pausing again with the muzzle of his gun pointed upwards.

Gently slipping the gun back inside his coat, he reaches into a pocket and fumbles with a few dim objects for a moment before retrieving the gun and preparing to move upwards again. The edge of the train roof is just above him now and he tenses to move silently, expecting the strange shape from the roof to appear at any moment and force him into life threatening combat. Not before time....not before time....the taste of life blood is but a dim memory on his lips now.

    Soon.

With one more step his eyes will be level with the roof and whatever lurks there will be revealled.

    Soon.

Holding his breath behind snarling teeth he plants a booted foot firmly on the next rung and launches himself upwards.

    [Game Turn 9]

Gesit you can start playing again welcome back :D

PLEASE NOTE: to the rest of the team, until I say so you have no idea what geist is doing (unless he tells you on the COMS channel) as you can’t hear him you can only see what’s happening through the window from your position so you’ll have to pretend you don’t know what’s happening to geist,

    Tank, Gaunt and Squall

After a few moments tank feels instantly better the shadow on the roof of the train that is hiding behind the valve intake has not moved it is still concealed in a very good position. The 3 people inside the train Geist the human and the wraith raider have not seen you yet as you slowly creep along the side of the train towards the emergency entrance to the train. As Squall reaches for the handle of the hatch you hear a long audible groan something that might have once come from human lips from the shape to your left. As the shape rises from the ground in that all to familiar undead zombie fashion you now realize what is it it’s a mutant cannibal, horribly disfigured with powerful jaws that look like they could rend flesh from bone, the mutant has arms as big as tree trunks the decaying mussels all to clear in the light of the tunnel, you realise that if you battle the mutant now the people in the carriage will surely hear you so squall rushes to open the hatch but find it is stuck with all of your strength just as the hatch pop’s open a single solitary shot rings out in the darkness and the mutant head bursts like a ripe melon, it was a tracer round so you saw the bullet quite clearly it came from a rifle on top of the roof of the train probably from the intake valve. Your clamber inside the hatch eagerly wanting to avoid sniper fire you are all now huddled just inside the door of carriage A looking down into the carriage you can see geist the human and the wraith and the human has lowered his weapon it looks like geist is talking them down. You’re all standing now at Waypoint 1 (see map) best start thinking of a tactical plan

    Zmek

As you make your way to the side of carriage B you miss the little fiasco of the mutant zombie but you do see the rest of the squad get into the hatch and close the door you clamber on top of the roof of carriage B you hear the shot ring out in the darkness and for just a moment you freeze on the spot with a lump in your throat any moment expecting the fatal bullet to rip into your body… but it never comes, you have no idea where the shot came from (as you weren’t with the others) and you have no idea who was shooting at what so you finish what you were doing and clamber onto the roof of carriage B as you lie next to the intake valve of carriage B getting your breath for a few moments you glance down the roof of the carriage to carriage A and can just about see the other Intake valve of Carriage A there is a figure lying on his stomach in the shadows and is well protected by the intake valve itself it makes the perfect shield and the figure looks to be human and has a VERY large rifle looks like a sniper rifle and is pointing out down towards the tunnel (not in your direction) on the roof in front of you there looks to be a hatch that would lead down into carriage B’s interior what you do now is up to you

    Geist

[I’ll do this bit from here from now in instead of PM as it takes too long otherwise]

As the single shot rings out the wraith looks nervously towards the roof “detrich come on over… this is ghost do you copy what’s going on up there?” after a few moments comes the reply “looks like the family is back after that bright flash of light I saw one of the bastids so I took his head off with the rifle there are still more shapes moving around out here I’ll stay here for a while longer and take shots at a few of them I’ll report back to you in 10 detrich out” ghost turns back to you and says “were about half a mile past refuelling station 44B on route to orentia as I said we were send down here to clean up the blockade and bumped into a whole family of cannibals about 30 of them there still lurking around outside somewhere and I’m amazed you didn’t run into them on your way here, we’ve rounded up all the passengers on the train and put them into the first three carriages of the train the rest of the train is empty there are 25 carriages between here at the front of the train we’ve taken down maybe 10 of the cannibals but suffered heavy losses of own these aren’t your regular run of the mill cannibals oh now there tough smart and strong, I haven’t seen anything like it to be honest. If your team are still out there id suggest you COMS them and tell them to get the hell in here immediately before they end up as lunch for someone.

Squall opens the door into the carriage slowly with his weapons by his side.

    "Dont shoot were friendlies"

He waits for the other team to lower their weapons then approaches the front of the carriage.

*Squall turns to the wraith raider who seeems to be the leader*

"Looks like you could use a little help. Whats the situation? What exactly are we dealing with?"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,446 ✭✭✭Havelock

*Draws both silenced FEN's and loads with standard HP rounds*

    "No need to use tranquilisers"

[To Wraith and Squall] "Who have you got up with the passangers?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 353 ✭✭Commissar

Gaunt moves to the back of the train and cautiously looks out, weapon at the ready. Assuming he sees nothing he will crouch at the rear of the train at waypoint one on the map above and watch for any movement coming down the tunnel.

guys you need a plan of action.

what ghost has suggested is that zmek, detrich and mac unblock the train and get the engines started.

the rest of you uncouple the carriage that your standing in (as its the last one) and get it ready to be used as the bomb

zmek then has to come back and act as bait for the cannibals while the train makes its escape,

zmek then teleports away from the train and you detonate the carriage

    sounds easy doesnt it

oh and somewhere in the middle you have to complete your BPN and try and find this rouge darknight ebon with the uber mega deathsuit that may or may not be on the train.

discuss it amongst yourself's on the COMS channel and i'll post the game turn then on monday night. we'll get the game going again its just gonna be slow is all

    sorry
