i have €150 gift vouchers for GAME, and they are selling this card for €149, i know this is very expensive, but i got the vouchers for free. I have a Creative GF3 Ti200 at the moment and its a complete gaming bottleneck for my PC, (3.2/1GB etc) and i just want a card to tie me over till i do a proper upgrade for Half-life?

Will i notive a huge improvment over the Ti200 64MB?

    Sean.

The 5600's weren't a great line of cards at all, but seeing as your practically not paying for it it could be worth getting. Jutst to note, the shader performance of the card is horribly slow, so dont expect much from dx9 games. There will be an improvement over the gf3, but I'm not sure if it would be much. You could always wait for the new line of cards to be released and see what you could spend your voucher on then(april i think), thats if it is still valid.

As u 150euro why dont u put some of your own money together and try and get an ati9600pro or even a ati9800pro. Might not cost much more for the 9600 and it be worth getting.

Im in galway and the GAME shop in galway has only the 5600 in stock, and ive asked about what they are getting in, but they said they are not too sure if they are gonna keep stocking GFX cards. Im just gonna buy it, its basically free and im sure it will make far cry and Deus Ex look better!

I already have a small Fortune put aside for a Savage card in september (HL2)

    Ill let you know later

Ok, Ive never tested my GFX card before. I just downloaded 3dmark01 and ran it as is, i didnt change anything with my PC.

    Results:

    Creative GF3 Ti200 64MB: 8403
    Creative FX 5600 128MB: 10813

    Thats roughly 25% increase.

    Im quite happy with that!

    Sean

edit: I just installed the latest drivers and i got: 11568

    Is that anygood?

Well the auto-detect went from all low to all high on Far cry, and it looks sooo much better and plays really smooth, the water is amazing!. Deus Ex 2 is much much smoother too.

Very happy with it, i was expecting much worse. although this now makes me wanna see what a E500 card run's like............ Roll on HL2

dang - found this thread too late - I have the 256MB version of the FX5600 and it's not the greatest....

probably will tide you over, if you're getting a good card come september well probably it's not he worst decision - should have sold the vouchers and bought a 9600:D

Yep or even better: sell the vouchers for about €120, invest about €80 ish of your own money and get a 9800 pro. In the meantime keep those savings growing and buy a next generation card for way less in about a years time :)

What are you gus talking about?

There are 2 versions of the FX5600.

The newer XT ultra version kicks any ATI chip in any engine at under €150.

    See the charts here

There is no point spending any more money on a graphics card unless money is no object. Even the best of the best of the cards current cards will be raped by a €150 card next year, midrange is the way to go.

There are 2 versions of the FX5600.

Erm yea that'd be the Ultra and non-ultra , he got the non-ultra which isint a good performer at all..... not that the ultra is much better TBH.

Are you thinkin of the 5700U? Because the 5600U gets kicked in those benchmarks? Fx5200/5600 are just bad cards from what ive seen!!

    The cheapest ive seen a 5700U is €170 and you can get a 5900XT for €180 and 9800pro for €200............ i definetly wouldnt be going near the 5600 or 5700 . 9600pro's for €129 if your on a budget, 9600XT for €150.
