PDA streaming mp3?

I have a Dell PDA with an 802.11b CF card. Does anybody know of a program that will let me play MP3s hosted on a PC on the network? I'm imagining something that will be able to catalog the MP3s, rather than just reading them over a file share. I can put software on the PC if needed.

    Any idea?

    Zab.

you can use a tool like Resco Explorer to 'map' a network drive so it is directly accessible through the Pocket PC file system and have the likes of Windows Media Player play them back (if they are in a supported format), alternatively if you want a more focused / fully featured MP3 app I've used WithMP3 for a long time and find it a great app

Thanks Brian, that combo looks like it will work well. I was hoping for something with a server side component, so that it didn't have to work over a windows fileshare, but I guess I'll have to make do.

Zab, prob not what you are looking for, but...

I'm using Windows media Encoder to stream my mp3's from my main pc.

So on my Axim, I just fire up Windows Media player and goto url. i.e (http://10.0.0.1:1865)

Works a treat, only downside is you have no control over the tracks being played...

fair enough - just found mapping and setting up playlists the easiest option for my MP3 collection

maybe you should try shoutcasting with this player then: GSPlayer

windows media player / real one mobile player can also connect media streams if you want to go down that route

Thanks for that. To be honest, the Resco/WithMP3 combination is actually what I am looking for, I just have a severe dislike/distrust of windows file shares. That other application looks endearingly free, so I may have a look at it also! I just haven't had the time to go back to any of this lately, but I'll try to let you know how I get on.

    Thanks again,
    Zab
