Its bull. Soundcellar had a sheet load of tickets (none of which were to go to people who had reserved tickets, more due in the following day for them) at 3pm the day they came out, and were expecting more in the following day.

Ticketmaster are still listing it, so tickets should be available through them, for a ridiculous €5.50 service charge. Soundcellar will charge you €1.

James R - do you work for MCD or something?
I laughed when I saw that ticketmaster had taken on extra staff to 'cope with the anticipated demand'. There was no WAY they were going to sell out that gig in a day! They're living in cloud cukoo land if they think RHCP can sell out a 120,000 capacity gig that quickly. They might be a bit popular, but they're not in the league of, say, U2, who could easily have sold out that gig in a day or two.

Also, it's chistmas, people don't have as much disposable income to spend on mcd's exorbitant tickets, and then there's the fact they have no support listed yet. Who do they think they are, Glastonbury? Glasto is the only gig i'd buy a ticket for without knowing the line-up, because you're guaranteed a good gig. With MCD you'll probably get the Frames and Halite. (no offence to fans of those groups, but they're not exactly 'up there')

Eh, yeah. Well you heard wrong. Maybe "Biddy's Sound Cellar" in rural Donegal sold out their allocation of tickets in 30 mins.
Maybe you should go try and buy some tickets on ticketmaster.ie before posting misinformation. I wouldn't be surprised if yr from MCD trying to promote the gig :OP

This is funny ... the Chili Peppers must think that Ireland is there largest fan base in the world ... Slane was the biggest crowd the ever played to and now they think they can play to even more people! Slane sold out cause of the great line up from start to finish, and because there is people who go to slane on bus loads every year regardless who is playing etc. I would definetly be very shocked if this sold out ...

It will probably pull a big enough crowd closer to the date but I think a lot of its success will depend on the line-ups of Slane, Witnness and Reading Ireland

    According to the Irish Independent...
MORE than 20,000 tickets for next summer's Phoenix Park concert by US rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers sold out within five minutes of going on sale yesterday.

And by 6pm more than half the tickets for the 120,000 capacity event on June 12 had been sold.

    source

I'm not sure why the used the term "sold out" when referring to one sixth of the tickets. Unless they staggered the sales in 6 stages.

Your link is no use, requires registration.

Anyway, I believe (but am open to persuasion to the contrary) that accounts of sold out concerts often include tickets issued to stores which are not part of the ticketmaster computerised system. I've often seen wedges of tickets for "sold out" shows in the Soundcellar, days after the gig is announced as sold out. Its a bit bizarre to be honest.

You're completely correct, Sound Cellar (and many other stores like it) buy in bulk from Ticket Master. They're completely seperate to the ticket master system, which is all linked.

Registration is free and fairly straightforward if you really need to follow the link. I'm sure it's in today's paper version too.

So is it possible that a claim of 20000 tickets sold could include a number of tickets issued to a non-ticketmaster outlet, that haven't actually been sold?

Well actually this could be true because I think like Eminem they have sold more records in Ireland per capita than anywhere else.

Which doesn't say much for the nation's taste in music, does it.

Yeah, well the Chilli Peppers aren't a bad band, just a bit of overkill there however the Eminem statistic sums us up as a "A Nation of Knackers" .....

    :( In fact its disgraceful.

    I'm a big chili's fan but i'd rather go here .

Apparently the Robbie concert was good last year but almost everything else about the day was a bit tedious and crap. I've only managed to see the chili's twice before and would love to see them again before they bite the bullet but I'm not sure I want to put myself through the torture of the phoenix park.

IMHO they were brilliant in Slane - even bought the DVD but there previous Irish concert was kack. I think one of the posts mentioned the Dublin knackers that couldn't be arsed going as far as slane but will definitely make it to the Park - that's certainly how it worked for the Lansdowne gig.
