Ok just saw it on the bands site, nice one. also on NME
Red Hot Chili Peppers to play massive Dublin gig

Oh man, and I thought that Metallica returning was bad. Three stadium shows in three summers - why don't they leave us alone. If Lansdowne Road was bad, I can only imagine how this holds up.

Haven't been to a concert there, but i don't imagine its a good venue unless your right up the front.
Its the usual crap with concert promoters, they will try to sell as many tickets in the pre-Christmas buying frenzy period, they've cut it tight but they'll be plenty of kids pestering their parents for a 'surprise' in the Phoenix Park I'm sure:)

I don't get it... They're a decent enough band, but Slane one year (where they were overshadowed by the Foo Fighters and the Queens of the Stone Age) and now a 120,000 strong Phoenix Park crowd? Do Irish people think that highly of them? So much so that we won't try and find other acts to give the big gigs to? People more deserving?

For gods sake. Why don't they just start gigging round all the pubs in Ireland? They're getting as bad as Counting Crows!
I don't mind RHCP but IMO they're not great live. Can't MCD et al come up with some other big name for phoenix park gigs?

Like Metallica, they're doing a Bon Jovi. Same time next year guys....

What a bad choice for an over rated band. Do they think they're that big??? Bunch of *&*&*&*.

I think the reason Slane sold out was because of the strength of all the bands playing rather than just the RHCP. I know I went to see the QOTSA and don't even like the RHCP ... Foo Fighters I had heard good stuff about live so I thought it would be a good show. But do they really think they alone can pull 120,000? Slane was around 80-90,000 people ... so they are expecting even more people to go see them this time around, even though they just played here  Madness!

it makes you think if they are going to get such big name support like Slane

Yeah i was surprised that RHCP were going to be doin a phoenix park gig, dont know if it will sell as many as a pop concert (robbie williams), so the support bands will need be quite strong to guarantee a sellout.

the people will go because they want to be a part of it......the phoenix park & gig & summer sells tickets pluse its handy to get there than most other places...course it will be a sell out.......i'm going, i only live 10 mins just for that fact, i only live 10 mins away, twill be a good day out. I'd say most of my mates will go and they would be like me thinking tinnies, gig, g***A, sun(hopefully0, phoenix park) bit of craic agus crack;)

so the support bands will need be quite strong to guarantee a sellout

Pixies are rumoured to be supporting RHCP in Paris at around the same time, so fingers crossed, eh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

Would you believe Ticketmaster are saying they received 30,000 phone call enquiries yesterday when news broke about the gig. Ah nothing like a little announcement like that to raise the hype....

yeah it looks like me and my friends are goin \o/. tickets are going to be hard to get :( but we will try

Its a fact that Qotsa and the foo fighters helped pull the crowd in for slane(whih i was at) but does ne one know if there are gonna be any good bands supporting RHCPs at phoenix park?

I really, really hope that that not happen (bit cautious on this Pixies reunion also). Not only would it force me to go to this joke of a concert, but the band would probably get such a beating like New Order did at Lansdowne Road, or even PJ Harvey at Slane, just because they're unknown to the majority of the crowd.

Plus, do the Pixies really deserve supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers? I know this is unrealistic to the world out there but shouldn't it be the other way round??

On the support bands, I'd say it would take awhile until these are announced.

rhcp are a great band and desrve there credit and im a led zepelin fan.But personally i think the phonix park gig will sell out because they have become less punk and more rock pop in the past few years .And all the scumbags which is 90% of dublin who were to f*&*%$ lazy to got to slane will go to the phonix park gig.and i like to see any of you f*** wits sell out slane
p.s Both qotsa and the foo's played rubbish at slane.

    ciao
    johan

So, if 90% of the scumbags in Dublin didn't go to Slane, thinking of how many scumbags I saw, how many would there be in Dublin if they left Slane travelling at 45MPH with wind resistance of 5MP NNE? :D

Well ticketmaster are expecting it to be a sell out anyway by the looks of things because they've hired 250 extra staff and brought in 200 extra telephones.

I'm thinking of seeing them at Rock-am-ring the weekend before, really not sure about the phoenix park thing. Slane was cool but the previous year in Lansdowne they were muck without decent support and a crap venue.

qotsa and the foo's were the best bloody part of the gig... they were excellent live... ive seen the foo's quite a few times now and they are brilliant live...

the rhcp were good and i like them.. but they are very over-rated...

and them playing another big gig a year later is a joke... talk about overkill... id much prefer seeing a different act headlining phoenix park... oh well... what you gonna do...

I don't know if this is true or not but a friend told me it sold out in an hour and a half.

    Can anyone confirm/deny this?!

Well Ticket Master still has them on sale, but when you try to reserve your tickets, it doesn't complete the page.
