Bring on Mayo and it's fair to say that since they knocked us out of the championship in 2011, they've pretty much had the upper hand against us. Both teams won't fear each other but c'mon Cork, hopefully we'll be cheering on both Cork teams in a semi final for this first time since 2012.

Driving to the Mayo match on Saturday.

I will have my father with me who had his knee replaced a few months ago so I'm to park as close as possible for him.

Where is the best place to park, don't mind paying for parking.

    Thanks

Doing a similar thing with my 74 year old father, I find parking at Maynooth train station and getting the train to Drumcondra is the best way to cut down walking and avoid some of the traffic on the way home. That's what we will be doing anyway

Does that rail line tend to be very busy on match days? Never got the train to Drumcondra for a match but I'm considering it as will already be in Dublin on Saturday - stopping so close to the ground I assume it must be jammed?

You can apply to Croke Park for a special car park pass for situations like your father is in. I do it on a regular basis for matches for my Mayo folks. Get to park right behind the cusack stand. I can PM you the email address to contact. They then send you a little form to fill out, and the car park pass is issued a few days later. I've never had a problem. Maybe with bigger crowds that it may not be possible to satisfy every demand. I don't know.

mayo man here, not doing a “yerra” on it but unless ye do a Jekyll and Hyde I think Cork will win pulling up.

    Here’s why:

Kevin Walsh, he’s had Mayos number for a long time through different teams and managers, even with Sligo he somehow always knew how to put it up to Mayo

The one week turnaround is a disadvantage for the round 3 teams. 2 weeks is the perfect time between championship matches. More training sessions, more rest. Mayo will just be recovering this week with probably only one training session.

Mayo’s midfield is not settled and just not very good. Different players every week.

Defence and defensive system is still figuring itself out. Paddy Tally was the go to guy for a lot of teams in the past as defensive coach but it’s possible he just doesn’t know how to be effective in this new game, much like JimMcGuinness

By comparison Cork have a settled midfield who are good enough and forwards who can take advantage

Please God you're right, Eastie but I don't know. Cork's Achilles heel the past ten years has been following great performances with awful ones. I hope they play to their full potential and if that's enough to beat Mayo, then great. If it isn't, so be it. We can shake hands, wish you all the best and start getting ready for next year.

The main issue as I see it is that Mayo are reliant on Ryan O'Donoghue and Kobe Mc. Find a way to take those two out of the game and everything else is very ordinary. We don't have confident midfielders who will take the game on. Whatever type of system we play allows teams at least 5 or 6 good goal chances every game. We are teeing ourselves up for an awful mauling of goals if some team actually punishes us. If Jordan Flynn and Jack Carney land a 2 pointer each in the first 5 minutes it can inspire them to have great games. However, they are confidence players, and if they miss, they go into their shells and the game tends to pass them by.

Anyway, that's a lot of negativity.

Mayo to win by 4 😊

I'll go back to by own forum.

If Cork does not win I would love see ye go all the way.

Think though Kerry will have too much for everyone in end.

There's a chance for a fairly average team to make the final this year if the winner of our game and the Louth / Monaghan game are drawn in the SF together.

The downside is that you'd probably be in for a hammering by Kerry (as both of us know only all too well) but there's always that small sliver of a chance that things would go your way and you'd pull off a famous victory. It's the hope that kills you!!

as a kerryman we are concerned about the belief that the remainder of the football champ is a foregone conclusion…

Kerry do not play well in the rain.. this has been proven over and over again…

jack o'connor for all his success has never done back to back.. tis like hes cursed or something.. this is his fourth attempt at achieving back to back…

i believe Cork are in with a great shout.. they have a very pragmatic manager.. and capable players and i think that if Kerry were to be knocked out.. Cork would be my bet to win it out.. think they will beat Mayo.. and if Kerry win they will avoid Kerry in semifinal so every chance of making a final…

outside of Kerry they are more than capable of beating the remaining teams…

as this football championship unfolds it is reminding me more of the 2010 championship that Cork won..

It can be but I've used it many times before and it's preferable to trying to drive into the city and trying to get parking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,052 ✭✭✭eastie17

and people in parts of the city and east cork might suddenly remember again that ye have a football team!

Ah its still 50/50 game for me. Once we play well I be happy. A win is a bonus.

Shooting letting us down so far, should be further ahead for all the posession we've had

Draw at ht. Some bad wides, should be a few ahead. With the wind now though.

Kicking the game away and we look vulnerable at the back. But we're clearing them out on their kickout, if that continues we have a chance.

Same old story with the Cork team, didnt show up at all today.

Cork teams just dont seem to perform well in Croke Park in general, football and hurling.

Another poor performance in Croker for the footballers.

Just when they give you hope, they take it away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,132 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Sigh...really fancied us today but when we face real pressure we fall apart, bit like our hurlers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 17,617 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

    They were always the same.

My dad used to say it to me as a kid you cant rely on the Cork footballers.

another awful performance in croker, horrific way to end the year, terrible performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭Mr.CoolGuy

Not only did they play badly but they played completely differently to the last two games. I have no idea why they were so slow to shoot and waiting until they were under immense pressure before firing off a poor wide.

They kept giving up real scoring chances only to fire a pass into someone under pressure. Disastrous

In typical Cork football fashion when you think we've turned the corner, we go all the way back to square one again. Getting promotion and reaching the quarter finals is a decent enough year, but it's very disappointing to see us back up that great display in Donegal with a performance as flat as that.

I knew we were in trouble after we kicked all those wides in the first half when we were on top. I hate saying this but i feel the team bottled it in the end as well sadly.

It's bitterly disappointing because it will be fifteen years next year since our last appearance in the last four. Best of luck to Mayo going forwards and congrats to them, but hopefully we'll secure our first division status next year and then take it from there.

We're still have a long way to go in terms of competing for and winning all Irelands. Oh well its over to the hurlers now.
