Jerry Cahir looks like a proper signing for next season

The Times and Indo both rated him '8'. Is it Too high? I think that his scrum-work will be a bit stronger than now.

you can always take those ratings with pinch of salt but Jerrys a top class scrumager and spends lot of time with Seamus Harty, one of best scrum coaches in country.

Looks like Josh Ioane is going to change his international allegiance to Samoa.

Love to see him at the world cup. Cracking player.

For me he had his best game ever for us against Glasgow. His kicking from hand has really developed and was a serious weapon that day.

He has always been a good running O/H and that suited us particularly well but made him a bit of a niche/specialist player.

If he keeps up the improved kicking he can become something really special.

I'm sorry to say below. I think that Ioane has been inferior to Frawley at almost FH's works especially defending and place-kicking since Maori AB v Ireland match a few years ago. And maybe Naughton will overtake him soon. At last, Connacht seem to not reinforce senior any LO players. So I expect N. physical growing up of N. Murray and some players in their Academy.

We just have to accept the limitations at lock right now and embrace the fact that it will mean a fast track for an academy lad if they show themselves.

I'm very keen to see David Walsh based on the views of his peers. He just turned 21 and is 6'7, hopefully we'll get to see him in some of the preseason fixtures.

Otherwise the composition of next year's Academy should be announced imminently, Leo Anic should definitely be in, but it would make sense to recruit a second lock given we're short.

Have heard the expectation is that they take in Leo Anic and Dara Walsh, and then likely a third lock based on whoever loses out on the Leinster Academy (so potentially Sean Walsh from Barnhall or Donncha McGuire IMO), as I'm assuming Dylan McNeice and Artur Smiykovskiy are going into the Leinster Academy.

That's interesting about Dara Walsh, I understand he was impressive as an U18 last year.

Think you're right about the likely Leinster candidates although if I had carte blanche I'd offer McNeice or Smiykovskiy a development contract and see if they bite.

Yeah, could definitely see the logic of that approach. I'm excited by both of them, and have seen a fair bit of Smiykovskiy in AIL and schools rugby. They're both huge men who look to be legit tight head lock options.

I've been watching McNeice for years, ridiculous that he never got to play in the Senior Cup due to having moved form CUS to St. Michael's, but a very impressive player. Exciting to watch these guys coming through.

According to RTE news, Lancaster is expected one of the candidate for the successor of Leo Cullen at the end of next season. I don't know whether it's good for Connacht?

I would take that with a very large grain of salt. The Leinster job is the 2nd biggest coaching job in ireland so when it becomes available every coach under the sun with a link to Irish rugby will get mentioned, I'd bet that if Farrell hadn't just signed an extension he'd have been in the list too.

This early in the process any article you see throwing names about is just publications trying to get clicks

There are effectively two jobs coming up for grabs in Leinster (not confirmed, but very likely).

Leo Cullen's role, which up to now was a hybrid Director of Rugby / Head Coach role. He wasn't an on-pitch coach all of the time with Leinster, and had a lot of classic DoR style responsibilities mostly, but he also was the guy responsible for picking the team (obviously with input from other coaches), something that would typically be a Head Coach responsibility.

Jacques Nienaber (and Stu Lancaster before him) were effectively the Head Coach (with the title of Senior Coach). They had all of the traditional responsibilities of a head coach in terms of coaching the team week to week, coordinating the other coaches, setting out the gameplan and strategies, but crucially, as above, didn't have ultimate sign off on picking the team.

A lot of the big names being linked as Cullen replacements (including Lancaster) are guys much better suited to the Head Coach role than the Director of Rugby role.

Stu Lancaster is a prime example of this - he's been very vocal about the fact that he doesn't enjoy the DoR responsibilities (he had these with Racing in Paris), and just wants to be on the pitch coaching.

It's possible he would be interested in an expanded version of his old role - i.e. a Head Coach job with responsibility for picking the team, but IMO, not likely. He seems happy and settled and building something. It's probably also fair to say he's operating under materially less pressure to produce results than he would be in Leinster, and can get on with the thing he's best at - coaching and improving players in an environment where he calls all the shots.

Fully agree and the key parts you say there are the control he has with nobody questioning his decisions which means no pressure on him. I think he loves it knowing that everybody is behind him and supporting him.

He's the dream coach for us and I think he loves being able to coach and work on fitness and have a great academy where he can develop players.

Yeah, it’s great to have him back in Irish rugby. I would have been happy to see him get the Munster job too for the same reasons. He just fundamentally makes players better season over season, which is great for the national team (and the quality of rugby we all watch every week too).

Daniel Ryan in for the try after 1min 30 secs in the Junior World championship against England.

Two tries for Daniel in the first half, unfortunately they are down 24-12.

A hat trick for young Ryan, he's been brilliant.

Unlucky to have a 4th disallowed for Daniel

A hat trick and an assist in the end for him. He was robbed of another by the TMO in my opinion, it went up as a try and looked like he touched it down but the TMO said he didn't. I don't know how he decided that.

Although O'Connell seemed a little plain, but I think he has great potential ability who is worth noting player.
