It's great for troubleshooting tech issues. I was installing Linux on a very old laptop.

The outdated HP firmware was not playing ball, and I would never been able to complete the install without the guidance of ChatGPT. It created all of the bash scrips I needed.

Really helped me this week designing an internel network. Access points, switches, cable runs etc. Saved me hours.

The ultimate question here is would you pay to use AI services? Or do you already do so?

Luckily I am on a years free sub to perplexity (ends 9/18/2026), If i renew will depend on the price.

On the Telly Bingo Viewer apk, I shared, that was just a trial run of AI Studio and the WebView implementation didn't have enough underline features enabled to make the webpage underneath functional.

If you want to test what sites will do in a proper WebView, try: - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.caniwebview.android

As I said before I have abandon the idea of creating an apk for boards. To do so I would need to make a lite version of my extension with not as many features. Thought process is would I have even used it myself instead of an extension in a browser. Probably not so saw no point in developing an apk.

I'm on the Plus plan for ChatGPT at EUR23pm and I consider it worth it. I also have some credit for the OpenAI API.

In your opinion, do you personally think ChatGPT is the better option? I would say Claude might be the better of the two. But not sure about the plus or pro plans.

I haven't tried the paid plans for tools other than ChatGPT so I can't say.

I find Codex, which is part of the ChatGPT plus tier, good for coding and automation. It runs locally in the terminal.

GPT is the clear leader of all the platforms, I pay the pro sub at €220pm but the output is phenomenal.

At €220 a month, how reliant are you of it and is the amount justified?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭fortwilliam

It absolutely is justified, I would estimate my return is in the region of 10x

Writing playbooks, organisational structures, writing prompts for Gamma to build PPT decks, training manuals & programs, Coaching plans………..

It is my expertise in the field I am involved in that drives the creative content but GPT does the heavy lifting of typing it all up, I would feed it a lot of context and content to draw from, go for a walk and then see what it built, it would then take 4,5,6,7 versions to get it right but the final product would be far superior than what I would have produced 10 years ago.

Yeah, this is very useful. Basically you are delegating the drudgery to the AI while you stay in control of the creative process.

Any look producing an APK with the AI Tools? Just wondering have you thought about the fact you need to provide your personal details to get apk's published to the store?

Learning to prompt in my discipline. Wondering if learning programming languages for Gen AI would be useful?

From personal experience that is just one of the pains of a Google Developer account. At one point I considered giving my apps an adults-only rating rather than mess around with the compliance questions.

Perhaps providing data in a structured format like JSON might help.

Asking the AI to generate small scripts can be useful too. You'll just need the environment to run the scripts in, like a terminal or compiler.

What started as providing a solution to a reddit query to apply custom fonts to all sites using Firefox.

Firefox can be configured with a on device file userContent.css to achieve that, but no such thing in chrome.

I know you can get extensions to do that, but I am reluctant to load random ones from the store. So I completely vide coded an extension to do that. Zip is what perplexity provided with no edits by me. Chrome only at present.

Luckily when I code my Boards cleaner extension with a theme engine it is already able to apply fonts on a forum basis.

    Anyone use duck.ai regularly?

Gave it a blast to today to create an extension to take urls on paywalled media sites and open archive.ph search link.

GPT-5 mini was the engine used.

I got a good result but need to build up sites (and various paths) and edit it accordingly so it becomes more effective.

Due to the nature of this extension, don't know if I should put it on my repo and/or share a zip for it.

When my free sub to perplexity expires good to know I have alternatives to use, read some bad feedback on reddit of people using up credits/tokens with it quickly.

My new private only personal extension project.

With the upcoming arrival of Chrome v150 and what it entails for extensions. I decide to create my own extension to handle ad blocking and privacy features.

It was triggered by coming across this user script posted on reddit. https://github.com/kelesmert/unwall which I converted to use in an extension.

I also took OISD Small from here: - https://github.com/cbuijs/oisd and converted it to a set of rules.json files, to be called with 'declarative_net_request' process in the manifest.

DNS blocking (or above) leaves behind placeholders, so also crafting some site specific site rules for cleaning up placeholders and other not wanted site content by removing the content from the dom.

The benefit of using AI is that it made me aware of chrome.contentSettings API something I wouldn't have known about, used to create browser toggles for 'Javascript' & 'Site storage (cookies)' which are buried in a sites settings page, which aren't easily and quickly toggled.

^ Above extension settings popup is not pretty, but is effective for my needs.

Note: - This extension is a fall back option, I am still using other tools NextDNS, Windscribe & Portmaster etc.

So basically an extension to clean up websites that I frequent, my choices and preferences so hence why a private version.

Yes I know there is other extensions that can handle things like that, but I very little trust in letting third party extensions running in my browser.

I have built another element picker extension to generate the rules for the clean up process and PowerShell script to convert the OISD file to '.json' files.

So one project eventually leads to another one.

On testing my DNR rules above for the extension. In theory they get triggered first and would block calls to my DNS provider. So with 60563 json rules, I should be reducing the calls that eat into my free quota's.

But in testing it revealed that having qwant as the default search engine in chrome, was pinging a lot of sub domains every time you opened a new tab.

So vibecoded an another extension to create a default tab page with search options and links.

    image.png

The old school method of doing it would be with a static html page. But the above works in Chrome, Quetta and Firefox developer. With import and export features. I can setup links and search engines on one and have them on the others.

^ Delete the .zip from the firefox version to install from file.

Note: Android Nightly has a different tab feature so need to look into that.
