They might need to increase the Patreon fee when Ken's expenses bill comes in.

Describing Henderson as the 'Jude Whisperer' didn't get the respect it deserved!

Those $75 motel bills covered by the Irish Times sure add up 😀

He may have had a couple Budweiser

Could be worse, could have lost a play-off on penalties after conceding a totally stupid penalty in normal time 😐️

did they even mention what game Ken is in Philly for? I see it’s the inevitable absolute blowout that’s Brazil vs Haiti

Murph, US Murph, Sneyd, and Ken, all sounded drunk in their segments on the show today.

The two Murphs definitely were, sure they recorded it outside a pub

Bit of a clue in the blurb to be fair

"sometimes presenters just need to blow off some steam… not Ken though"

"Murph showed US Murph around his favourite Galway City haunts"

Yes but they did mention they only had one pint. Maybe it was said sarcastically and I missed it..

Marcela broadcasting a narrative about Messi that I doubt exists in Argentina outside the most high falutening Buenos Aires Dinner parties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭MercuryBoy

yeah total garbage, she is in a minority of 1 with her opinion i think

Vickery’s stock was going up by every statement she uttered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,089 ✭✭✭cheese sandwich

It sounded like a pitch for a contrarian article for the Guardian rather than a genuine reflection of Messi’s standing in Argentina

Branno in the US make perfect sense for second captains. They don't need an irish link to generate a pod. Murph and Eoin staying up all night trying to engage with Ken in totally different time zones didn't work well. Now, branno and Ken can create football pods without the others.

I dunno, for me Branno dilutes the whole inherent Ken-ness that makes his foreign travels so entertaining.

I’m in two minds about it. They clearly get on well and it’s good that Branno has improved Ken’s mood - listening to another 3 weeks of Ken moaning would have become wearying for everyone. But there’s less random weirdness when they are together, it’s as if KE is happy to let KB take charge of what they do, whereas when he’s on his own he seems to wander around the place haphazardly which often leads to his best stories.

Not sure that was the case before they won the world cup. From what I heard and read previously, I think there was a decent proportion of people in Argentina, who weren't too sure about him. They thought he had nothing on Maradona, questioned his commitment to the national team and referred to him as being Catalan etc. I think he even referred to this when he retired from Argentina for a while.

I enjoyed listening to Ken and Branno rounding up the matches with that craziness going on in the background.

I agree. It wasn't working well. Probably the main reason I've been enjoying The Guardian pod more, is because the core of them are based out there for it. I think between Ken moving around and the time difference, the quality has suffered a bit.

I was against KB going out there to Ken, because it might upset or change to flow of what Ken usually gets up to. Especially in between games. But I think it's for the best. And that was a very good and enjoyable start for them last night.

The fact that it started with Branno having recently made an an Egyptian connection while getting food at a Bohs match who begged them to come to a watch party out in Queens set them up for success. Long may it continue.

Ken doing a summary of matches without having him anyone to interact with isn't him at his best, so having Branno with him does make them more interesting.

I'm hoping there will be some non football features about their time in the states though.

Ken will be feeling fairly smug after that England v Ghana match :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,151 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

VERY much looking forward to waking up to a smug Ken tomorrow morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,161 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

I'm enjoying it all every day. Ken was rightly smug after England's snorefest.

"You've got to be discerning when you're analysing the game"

    He was loving it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,534 ✭✭✭jones

    This is exactly my feeling.

Branno is like a puppy for Ken, they get on well and Ken clearly likes having him around but half the craic with Ken on his littlest hobo travels is his inherent madness kicking in as the tournament goes on. He's like Larry David in curb your enthusiasm and I'm here for that.

Branno seems to dilute it somehow 🤷

He brings too much organisation! No more misjudging the time difference. No more aimlessly wandering around a new city. But better post game chats about the game.

So it depends on what you want - non-football Kent, or football Ken. The time difference and shear length of the tournament probably meant that we couldn't get both.
