Not on some ground. Seen a 12 tonne digger lift off a straining post that a post driver beat down after

Ive seen 25 ton diggers failing to drive 6 inch posts.

I was brought in with a malone to drive posts where the 25 ton machines failed.

It was hard going but used a crowbar to make a pilot hole between the rocks. Sometimes had to drive the crowbar with sledges. Then pound down the stake with the. post driver.

Don't have rock but have hard pencil no more than two foot down in some fields and in dry weather my Belmac has failed with corner posts and struggled with normal posts at times. Have hired in diggers with augers which worked well and other times just dug holes and filled in again and drove into that. Local Farm Relief have a trailed post driver that will drive esb poles into anything. It's an amazing bit of kit.

A few different bits in the last 4 hours of driving. The friend who's getting married works for Case at sprayers and combines in Canada. Glad I hired the jeep for the dirt roads

Gonna try get the old 135 running this weekend looking to get a few bits and pieces where's the best place to deal with . If I get it going I'll be tipping away at it over the next year or so.

I think someone mentioned a place around the midlands that even built a 135 from scratch with new parts thats on display as well.

Looking for a battery and a few filters and oil for this weekend. Gonna pick up imperial spanners and sockets in Army Surplus Friday hopefully.

Any tips on how ro save a bit by buying spurious parts etc welcome.

Edit to add if there's still a battery in it would it make a difference to charge that up or should I just get a new one?

    Better living everyone

John Conaty is a good shout. He’d have a mix of second hand and new bits

Charge up the one if you think it will hold charge. Take it to motor factors to charge /test it.

Best to figure out what state the engine is in i.e. Will it turn over etc.. At the end of the day its a 135, so is limited enough in what you can do with it.. dont go spending alot on it unless it has sentimental value and you'll never sell it.. my work colleague is after spending 4 grand on the engine of a 135 he bought lately. I though he was mad..

My digger is overheating, well i don't actually think it is. Radiators were clogged, no air getting through. Jcb man took them off cleaned them and put them back on. Good flow of air going through now. Bringing in bales last week, temperature guage going up full, buzzer going off to stop engine. Then a few minutes later needle goes down to 3/4 way . Buzzer stops. Using it today to get pit ready used it for 2 hours , was fine. Then went to finish off this evening at same crack. Would it be thermostat or sensor. Belt on fan is fine

What year is the 3cx? Thermostat jammed could be a likely cause for sure. You can only eliminate bit by bit sometimes

I assume there is water in the rad and expansion tank.

If its very low it can do the above. Go high then low because there is no water in it.

Putting your hand on the rad cap will normally tell you if its too hot.

Any odd smell when temp goes up?

If its genuinely not boiling, temp switch. .

Check / clean connections to this. If its goes open circuit , temp gauge will shoot to max.

It can be checked with the digger engine off and ignition on. Wiggling cables and plugs might recreate problem and show exactly where its wrong.

If it is boiling. Thermostat can stick closed. Put hand on top rad pipe and bottom. If bottom is cold and top is very hot. Water isnt circulating . Eithre stat or water pump

TThere's No radiator cap on it, there's a coolant reservoir which was replaced the same time the radiator was cleaned as it was leaking

No , I dont think it's actually overheating. Took a few videos of it this evening and sent them to jcb man. Edited to say my machinery knowledge would be minimal but I think I'd know if it was overheating

Some things just don't have the cooling pack capacity for very hot days like we have the odd time. I do drive a Zaxis 130 for a lad beside me the odd time and on hot muggy days the temp alarm and gauge will go through the roof. The digger is not overheating due to any mechanical issue, just doesn't have the cooling capacity. The fix is to leave a diesel drum under the engine bonnet to keep it lifted and it let's enough air around it to stay relatively cool when working. Maybe the poor old JCB is suffering the same fate on these hot days.
