There wasn't any retraction to ask about. The option was 1 + 1 Leinster didn't exercise their option on the +1. Leinster say it was because the IRFU weren't prepared to pony up the PONI but ultimately he was on a Leinster contract and they weren't prepared to meet the cost. ( I reckon Leinster tried to do a Munster on it. Allow fan and media pressure to force the IRFU'S hand and find the money, just didn't pan out).
Not wishing to cause any offence, brilliant player, brilliant Leinster and Ireland servant but a winger who will be 35 at the world cup should never have put himself in the position that he would have to negotiate 1 year out. His agent has a lot to answer for, but blaming either the IRFU or Leinster seems a bit off the mark. Hopefully he has a good time and makes some money in Japan.
