2 smashing nights and I even got a guitar pick from the first night. I flew back from Canada for these, and they were worth every minute.

What merch tent are you talking about? The one between Shelbourne Road and being in the stadium, just before tickets are scanned? I don't think they had the venue specific tshirts/posters there, it was overall tour stuff? It was in the other merch tent beside the food vans, which you would have had to scan your ticket to get to.

Am I the only one that didn't like the t shirts and posters?

Class, I managed the same and the posters, I think the designs for all 3 are unbelievable, the level of detail and Easter eggs on the concert posters is insane

    Anyone win on a fancard?

fair play, I do think they should have limited it to one per fan though. You’ve got three and almost everyone else here couldn’t get even one. Not really very fair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,950 ✭✭✭✭hynesie08

Well no, each night and the pop up had an individual t shirt, which means on 3 occasions he was early enough to get one, that's absolutely fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭Capra

fair enough then. I assumed they were just all bought at once.

I’m not really that into merch myself although I have two shirts from s&m2 so now that I think about it it’s a massively hypocritical comment from me.

    Never mind me.

Nope, Lynott was bought on the Friday night at the concert, the Ireland one at the Convention Centre on the Saturday morning, and the Molly one at the Sunday gig.

But I do agree that they should have limited people going in multiple times to the Convention Centre. As I said in an earlier post, the lady tagging the bags actually pointed out one guy to the security guard and said that this was her third time seeing him there. I also saw on FB this morning that someone said a bunch of lads were in there first thing this morning and picked up a dozen each of the Ireland tshirt without a care in the world of sizes, just grabbed them up.

It's a pity that the poster in the Convention Centre didn't come in a tube. I was there when the artist was signing the foil ones but figured it would be a waste of money as I'd have to bring it back down on the Aircoach and it wouldn't be in tatters by the time I arrived home.

I was in the frantic early entry and the scalping was very noticeable, I would say the majority of people that bought it from my experience of both days were international fans that follow them around (even the crew knew them),

I saw so much hassle towards the staff, "keep searching for the foil or I'm not buying it", buying multiple shirts and posters, they didn't limit the 1 per person rule which is stated on the tents,

Same with the pop up stuff, people listing a piece of vinyl for 3-4x the price, I'm already seeing the poster up for 300 quid minimum, international fans seem to do this in order to follow them around and sustain it, it's scummy behavior, it seemed anything "collectible" was fair game, from guitar picks to posters, just look on eBay and it's all being relisted, and it's not Irish fans, every fanbase has this cohort unfortunately,

I collect posters myself and have a tonne but this level of depravity and scalping is actually detestable

I really don't get the merch thing. Weirdos.

Anyway, think thats the best Metallica have sounded since the 90s.

The old ticket stubs on the big screen was a brilliant touch

Very happy with my resale pick up, great view from Row A of block 512

I dont really get it. They are all just reprints at the end of the day. Just scan it and print it yourself if you want a momento. The only value a souvenir has to me is as a reminder of something I was at and that will have exactly the same effect. I would have zero interest in a concert poster from a concert I wasn't at and there is no way in hell I would pay those ebay prices for an "original reprint".

They are literally all scans and reprints of the original artwork. I know the foil probably isnt easily replicated but still….

I never realised there was a third fan-card QR thing. Does anyone have a spare Green one they'd be willing to part with?

2 great nights, 32 different songs, Orion, Whiplash, Blackened, Battery, Bell Tolls, Call of Ktulu….. glorious weather yesterday, great crowd, the best they've been since the 90s and 80% of this thread has been about merch……

I enjoyed the openers as an oul fella but overall I think I preferred avatar although knocked loose looked more at ease on the big stage

That was brilliant, I thought Sunday was far better than Friday, I don't know was it the mood of the crowd or the setlist was better. Only bought a ticket on Wed, so glad I did. Sound for both support acts was dreadful, I saw Pantera in the 3 arena last year and it was an amazing gig. Could barely hear Gojira, but they killed it. Sound for Metallica both nights on the pitch was perfect. Orion live was an absolute treat, seen them 7 times since 99 and never heard that.

Kudos to the Aviva, I have never being at a stadium gig that it was so easy to get a beer or go to the toilet.

Honestly I'm not 100% sure of the location - Day 1 I went in from Lansdowne Road direction and wasn't paying attention to anything bar where to go to get scanned and inside because I figured whatever merch was there would only be available after I got inside the venue, so if there was a sales point I missed it.

Day 2 I went another way, from the red onto the purple route, walked up past the canal and the tent was there just at the barriers - they had shirts and I noticed 2 of the mannequins were bare but with prices still on them so feared the worst but queued anyway - I was 2 away from the front and the customer asked if there were any Molly Malone shirts left and the girl behind the counter said they'd sold out, not that they weren't selling them in the first place or directed him elsewhere, just that there might be some more "inside".

So once I got my ticket scanned I had a bit of a look around but I was pretty much corralled in - the only direction available was to get my wristband, then straight on to getting searched, then straight onto the pitch.

And I'm not the only one who missed out wherever the merch was - several left the queue for the tent I was at when they heard the shirt was sold out and have seen a few on Reddit & the discord saying they walked around for ages but couldn't find any.

For those asking about the cards, I got handed the Phil Lynott one after getting my wristband on the Friday, I didn't get one on the Sunday but was given both the Molly Malone & the Ireland one when I joined the pop up queue this morning

On the Phil Lynott tshirt thing on Friday……….

I queued at the merch table for a while wanting to get a shirt for my nephew. I didn't particularly have my eye on the Philo shirt.

However, the guy in front of me was allowed to buy all of the ones they had left. I mean, he asked the lady how many were left, there were 7, he was able to buy all 7 plus the one from the mannequin.

    An absolute joke!

Great gigs all the same :)

They played 'Master of Puppets' in full at the Download thing in the RDS.

I was very impressed with how fast getting a drink or food was, in general it was all very well organised.
