I am reading Harry Potter book 1 to my youngest at night and last night was chapter 12 which is just at the Christmas school holidays. So I will expect the half way to Christmas talk to start.

I am loving how interesting the GAA is this year and Second Captains is having some great podcasts. I can't see the Dubs being anywhere close to beating Donegal but we can only dream.

@DvB enjoy the holidays, I haven't been to the Canaries since my early 20's when I went with an old flame. I fly back to Ireland via Doha overnight on the 9th. Not keen on red eye flights but it was free with air miles so had to grab it.

"an old flame" that's an expression I haven't heard in a long time!!!

The last time I was in the canaries was also with an old flame 😂 but I'm fairly certain he's still living in Dublin 😂 😂

I am showing my age I guess. My old flame also lives in Dublin still, I believe with her parents still which shows how mad housing is in the capital. We went to Fuerteventura, we were just 20 I'd say, it was the year the song 'Hey ya' was released is about how much I remember of it.

I am still hopeful we can make Lapland work this year, thanks for all the comments.

Bonfires, but two days later and allegedly for St John instead because celebrating the sun would have been seen as pagan. Still common on the Atlantic coast

The only thing I've heard going on in my area is a charity dawn cycle on Sunday morning to mark the earliest sunrise of 2026.

Happy Friday everyone, hope you all have something nice planned for the weekend. Father's Day on Sunday too.

Going into the 180's on the countdown today, mad that the halfway point is only a week away.

Hope you have a great time, very well deserved. Where are you going in Gran Canaria? I've only been there once, but stayed in the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in on holiday just outside Puerta Rico.

We're going to Playa Mogan, its about 15 minutes from Puerto Rico, never been there before (went to playa del ingles back in 94, but that was an entirely different holiday 😉).

We love the canaries in general but felt we needed a change from Tenerife & Lanzarote.

My brothers heading to Metallica tonight & Sunday. I asked him why he was going two nights & he said two different set lists for each night apparently!

Yes, heard they were doing different set lists alright and different support acts too.

I'd say Playa del Ingles in '94 was a different type of holiday alright ha ha.

@DvB enjoy the well earned break.

Best of luck to those going to concerts, I hope there is no more of that biblicial rain, never seen the like of it today🤯.

We are heading away in few weeks but too much to do before then can't even think about it!

@DvB you do realise we are meant to get 30 degrees here while your on holidays😁

Count how many times your family and friends tell you that during the week while you are on holidays🤣

@leahyl many congrats :-) i thought the same initially re getting a man but my parents' cat moved in with me instead and now almost 2 years later she seems to want to move her boyfriend in too! I've enough with the cat now. Love the peace of my own space. It's so easy to get used to having no other personality to navigate when you finish a day's work!

@freshpopcorn I'd say those big days must have started in the 2000s. I'm older than you and it was more a skinny Santa with a cotton wool beard at the town hall and a small gift. I did go to Santa (a very skinny one so i knew he was no more real) outside Dunnes Stores one year and the pressie was an etch sketch which I absolutely loved. I loved drawing so I was over the moon :-)

I told my 10 year old that today was the longest day of year and my husband said yep countdown to winter solastic and Christmas is on.

I said I better post that on my Christmas thread😂. He doesn't even like Christmas that much so I was amazed at the comment😂.

Metallica was amazing on Friday, pity my wallet could not stretch to go again tonight

You'd forget about the solstice, the celts/pagans or whoever sure had fun with them. Probably a mini drinking session back in the day 😆 🥳

Completely missed it was the longest day of the year. I can’t believe it’s July next week. Let’s hope for a decent summer, then a nice countdown to Christmas begins.

Morning Elves, hope everyone had a lovely weekend & a belated Happy Father's Day to the Daddies 🤗

We're away on our hols on Friday so spent the weekend packing & sorting bits out. On a big countdown to finish work on Thursday evening - but a mountain of work to get thru before then!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,073 ✭✭✭Jude13

So close to the halfway point and it looks like the forum is picking up a bit. I think my folks will be with us this Christmas, our families do alternate years, though it depends on my old mans health.

The Dubs showing real steel yesterday. I don't get home until the 9th, if we can get past Galway (unlikely) I'd love to bring the youngest to her first game.

I'll be terrible and whilst we won't notice it for a few weeks of the weather is good.

    The days are getting shorter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭tscul32

Not a GAA fan but enjoyed the 'other' boys in blue in Croker on Friday night winning the URC final.

Enjoying the summer hols from school now that the exams are over (in this house anyway) can't believe I've two finished school! Feeling old! 3 weeks until we're on our hols, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Begium (and might squeeze a day in France in there too). Will also be celebrating a rather significant birthday while in the Netherlands so may have to indulge in a region specific treat on the day 🤣🤣. Gonna try enjoy the last few days of my youth between now and my mid life crisis 😭

Enjoy the good weather while it lasts ☀️☀️

Lads, couldn't make it up, finally get away on hols, relieved some stress and get a toothache that has half my face sore and sensitive...

Its in an area I had extensive work done a few years ago too so.not a straightforward fix that I could go to a local dentist with.

Oh that's awful (and typical) ...maybe the cabin pressure triggered something.

You'll probably be able to get pretty strong painkillers over the counter just make sure you drink plenty of water and watch the alcohol intake (personally I wouldn't drink on painkillers, but I'm not a drinker so extremely easy for me to say that!)

    Hope it resolves soon.

Aw crikey, isn't it always the way! Hope you can get some pain relief and that it won't ruin your holiday.
