Brutal post. There’s a lot of ill will against Jimmy McGuinness I guess so you’re trying to get a dig in.

I’m not from Donegal and Dublin were good value for the win today. Should have got it done easily in normal time too.

I’m not sure there was an aura around Jim McGuinness ever. Maybe in 2012. You’d need a strong agenda not to see he’s a great manager. Donegal are no football power house. Never have been.

They’ve won 2 all Irelands. He played in the team that won their first and managed the side that won their second.

They’ve won Ulster 12 times. He played on one of those and managed for 5 of them.

For Donegal he’s made them competitive. They aren’t a Dublin or Kerry. The pile on when they/he loses is hilarious. An all time great and would most counties would love to have him. Well beaten today and a couple of times this year. Will be interesting to see if he goes again next year .

Agreed ref Dublin having no hope of winning the All Ireland with a performance like that

Murphy however is a thug and deserves all the negative comments.

Nodody is jealous. Neither McGuiness nor Murphy have exactly covered themselves in glory this year, especially the latter. Bitchy remarks by some posters about Donegal beating Kerry this year when Kerry up to very recently have basically been a skeleton team, a mere shadow of the AI champs they were last July. But Kerry are still in it in 2026 and we will see what happens from here on in.

Donegal is a beautiful county and you have some very fine footballers. Let's hope you can all calm down next year and get back to expressing yourselves the proper way, on the pitch.

You’re just jealous of Murphy’s fighting skills.

If you want fighting skills you have to have Michael Burns in the equation

    Culture, or geography?

Im old 🗝️ enough to remember the years leading up to the 1992 win, the McHugh's and then lads and their hand passing moves. Was explained to me at the time that this was the way you often had to play on Donegal, with wind and all that. Why they rely on that style and kerry,Galway,Mayo not so much I don't know, but doctors differ I guess.

I thought Dublin outplayed them by a mile tbh. And it a performance that would have ousted most who are left.

I found Murphy very unlikeable this year, but your theory doesn't hold,i.e., jealousy ,for me anyway as I have felt sorry for him since last year's all Ireland when the pace of Kerry defenders left him floundering. His carry on this year was bad, including today, running off to instigate trouble after his kick. That's the nonsense that damages the games reputation and what has many delighted this evening that we might not have to see this last version of Michael ever again.

Just watching Mayo v Meath highlights now.

As a Galway man I say fair play Mayo.

Meath paid the price for their dirty streak.. it's not the 80s anymore lads..

The scores including 2 pointers. 22-34-178, 234 scores in 6 games, average per game 39. 223 scores without Extra Time, average 37.

    Kerry 4-18 (4-3-12) Armagh 0-17 (0-3-11). Mayo 0-22 (0-3-16) Meath 2-13 (2-0-13). Dublin 2-26 (2-3-20) Donegal 2-22 (2-4-14) AET. At 70 minutes 2-3-12 v 2-3-12. Monaghan 1-28 (1-5-18) Westmeath 2-19 (2-2-15).

    Down 2-19 (2-3-13) Fermanagh 1-21 (1-3-15). Wicklow 2-26 (2-5-16) Offaly 4-15 (4-0-15).

Meath were mugged. They should have had a handy free that would have put them 5 up , instead the free wrongly to mayo , a wrong red and mayo 2 points. Officials can’t really affect a game with two matched teams anymore then that.

I’m a dub and have no love for meath.. I was in CP plenty of times when they thumped the crap out of teams and was there for all 4 of the saga games that they pinched against us and the that final against mayo , but none of that changes the awful decisions that decided the game yesterday.

Would you be referring to the red card that almost everyone has agreed was never a red card in a million years?

Agree with all. A lot of the hate around him is so boring, some of it borders on weird obsession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,247 ✭✭✭MFPM

Dublin unlikely to win AI but most Dublin supporters are realistic about this. Their job today was to beat Donegal and they did that, should have done so in 70 mins.

Murphy was a great player, he isn't now and shouldn't have come back..he will finish his career with 1 AI medal....

McGuinness is massively overrated, he will also finish his career with 1 AI...

Not sure what there is to be 'jealous' of per se?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,645 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

I think you.miss understand analysis of his ethos as hate. Personally I dislike his style of coaching and his want to have gaelic football as a defencive game. Jim and another few coached nearly ruined football. They tried to drag it into being a totally defensive game with 12-13 men behind the ball. Even now he wants to change to larger number of substitutes to accomodate a defensive low scoring high fitness game where a team.can win by counter attacking. He dose not want to embrace the new rules or skill based football

Look at Westmeath today putting it up to Monoghan. A D3 national league team that has plated exciting football all year, won a Leinster title, and gotbto a preliminary quarter final. They have brought more to football this year than Jim has

How is mcguinness overrated? He has managed donegal to 1 of their 2 all Ireland in their history and about half of their ulsters? Does anyone remember the low ebb they were at prior to him taking over? Drinking culture, in fighting, players coming and going. He changed all that and made donegal players proud of their county.

The 2nd time he took over they were about 5th ranked team in ulster. Year later ulster champions, then another ulster then all Ireland finalists. Im not even from a football county but even i can rubbish your nonsense post with basic facts.

I had a lot of respect for him.

He realized after 2011 that defensive football would not work and came out in 2012 playing a much more expansive game that along with his ability to get total by in from players resulted in a massive All Ireland campaign.

But then he faded, he was not able to beat a less than generational Kerry team in 2014.

He came back in 2025 and everybody was expecting this tactical master class in the All Ireland final and he got it spectacularly wrong.

And here he is out of the All Ireland before the quarter final after failing to beat Dublin and Cork.

I heard him on the radio complaining about the schedule.

Had you beaten Cork Jimmy you would have had a week off.

I don't care about the 6 million Ulster titles he won, it's not relevant on the national stage .

In 2012 they caught lightning in a bottle and that was it.

After 2012 you have to look and realize he didn't achieve much.

After 2012 Stephen Rochford of Mayo has the same record in All Ireland's as him.

And speaking of Mayo, the sole All Ireland he won was in a final v Mayo, renowned All Ireland final failures.

He might have done a lot for Donegal the county, but at a national level, very ordinary.

HIs pride certainly hurt watching the after match interviews. To play 4 championship games lose 3 to Cork,Down at home and today against Dublin who lost to Westmeath,Louth and wanted the game in Parnell Park is really odd form and especially when the one win was by 10 points in Killarney.

    For the record

    Donegal 1993 to 2010 no All-Ireland semi-final appearances.

    Under him term 1
    2011 All-Ireland semi-finalists
    2012 All-Ireland winners
    2013 All-Ireland Quarter-finalists
    2014 All-Ireland Finalists

    2015 to 2023 no All-Ireland semi-final appearances.

    2nd term
    2024 All-Ireland semi-finalists
    2025 All-Ireland Finalists
    2026 round 12 exit
    2027 ???

Murphy was directing traffic standing on the halfway line. Hands up in the air getting the defenders to move right and left.

It felt like in second half if Dublin could get level or ahead they’d win but kept missing a point to get level.

On comments around technical it was delaying game but numerous times the 3 vs 3 is broken why players are crossing the line. Should they not be called as it is obvious to anyone very close to the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,645 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

Because thre was such a furore over minir crossings of the line they added refs discression so that now if a player breaks the lineand comes a few meters in he dose not interfere with play its not called.

Its the same as yesterday with the Dublin player not handing back the ball toa Donegal player. Huge furore and we get the " punishment is too harsh".

There should have been no rowing back on breaking the line for 3v3 and there should be no rowing back on the onnhanding back the ball. Yes there will be hard luck stories but technich punishments should be harsh to discourage what they are supposed to discourge.
