Edinburgh Stabbing Incident (Thread bans in OP)

On a night when Scotland are playing in a crucial World Cup game, a "patriot" is out stabbing Muslims in Edinburgh.

I presume we'll have riots by the same cohort of bigots who perpetrated the pogrom in Belfast last week and went rioting in Southampton recently? Amongst many other such incidents.

Or maybe not. A white man dunnit so sssshhhh.

    From BBC:

    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2xg6lwz5jo

Five men have been injured in a series of suspected anti-Muslim attacks as a bare-chested man was seen roaming the streets of Edinburgh with a large weapon.

The BBC understands the attacks began near a mosque in the west of the city, where two men were injured, on Friday night.

Footage posted on social media appears to show the same man vandalising a petrol station and battering the door of a pizzeria several miles away on Leith Walk before being held on the ground by police.

A 36-year-old white man has been arrested and counter terrorism officers have joined local Police Scotland colleagues in an ongoing investigation.

Luckily he's been apprehended and no one seriously injured. He appears absolutely deranged in the footage on the BBC website.

They got it out that he was white and Scottish immediately....

Would they do that if he was Muslim ?

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Yes, the first article I read about the Belfast stabbing on RTE said that the arrested suspect was Sudanese.

That was enough for me to conclude they were likely to be Muslim.

    I don't understand the question.

White+Scottish = Race and Nationality. No mention of religion.

Are you saying the press report religion first when it's muslims? Are you saying if he was Black+Scottish or Black+Congolese, you would automatically assume muslim?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

    Tis awful quiet here.

I’m sure plenty of people who carry out these attacks do.

However it doesn’t absolve anyone who carries out these attacks if they’re immigrants, so it absolutely also holds in this case.

Awfully quiet..... strange that...just posting this to Check the thread isn't locked.

Edit..Not locked, bat signal must be broken....or perhaps there's another reason.

I suppose it’s much more unusual than the other way around, which is almost a weekly occurrence throughout Europe these days. I certainly don’t agree with what this man did and hope he feels the full force of the law. Awful as it is, nobody died and it’s not part of a clear pattern like the attacks by followers of the religion of peace.

Nobody died in Belfast last week and people were burned out of their homes just because they were immigrants.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,625 ✭✭✭AyeGer

That got plenty of attention Pete

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭For Petes Sake

Yep, and crickets from the usual suspects who made excuses for them in this case.

Common denominator in all of this is men. So let’s have a conversation about violent men and target them and burn them out of their homes.

It got downplayed by plenty and there were even a few on this site that were pretty fine with them being burnt out...

I don’t really get what the point of this post is, bar a bit of race baiting and tension stoking

Is OP expecting anything other than idiocy or hypocrisy from the Northern Loyalists?

The Belfast riots were widely and rightly condemned by all sensible commentators

So is everything thing that happens going to be racialised now like in America? Great for our society.

Another far-right lunatic who thinks they are protecting people by attacking random non-white people. Where are these fcukwits radicalised?

This poor man just has mental health issues , you can’t say he wanted to harm Muslims just because he said it and tried stabbing them . There should be a long review into this incident and nobody should jump to any conclusions until all the facts are known .

    That’s how it works , isn’t it ?

You're probably not entirely wrong, even if you're being dishonest in an attempt to bait 'sides' against each other.

I'd say he does indeed have some sort of mental health issues or got radicalised and snapped, I do genuinely feel sorry for people like this.

To be fair, the baiting started a lot earlier than the post you quoted. Also to address the "where is everyone?" point - the OP posted late last night and it's Sunday today. Personally I was in bed!

Anyway, mental health issues or not, it doesn't take away from the point that this attack is as wrong as those committed by radicalised migrants with religious motivation.

I know several in this thread are posting exactly because they are looking for a "so there!" moment and probably not happy with the closure of the helpdesk thread , but I'm afraid this isn't the "gotcha" they think it is.

No one has ever said that there aren't crazies and violent attackers on the "other side", but no one has said that it's acceptable either.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Anyone who attacks innocent people is not right in the head

The main issue I'd have with reporting of the Edinburgh incident is that not a single British newspaper put this on their front page yesterday, not even as a by-line or sub-heading. Contrast that with the coverage of the attack on two Jewish men in Golders Green a couple of months ago - wall to wall coverage on every front page, accompanied by numerous opinion pieces on how the UK is supposedly no longer safe for Jewish people.

There's a consistent approach to this, which OP and the lackeys that have followed, fail to see. Terrorism, by definition and usage, is the act of violence for aims that may fall under ideological, political, social, racial, reasons.

So, this guy, is a terrorist, an anti muslim terrorist. Not only do I have no shame in saying so, but I believe we should go further to stamp this out. I believe in looking at his online history, the blogs he subscribes to, what he's posted, naming the ideology and shaming the peddlers of such hate. And anyone that lays obstruction to this, is in the way and should be swept up along with the other racists.

The failure of consistency though is, I believe we should do the exact same for other incidents. Priest in Galway, Garda in Capel Street, Woman in Clifden, sex worker in Limerick, guy in Belfast. But we will never get the same response.

So the response from media and politicians to this incident is bang on the money, and I am 100% behind it. I only wish they would be consistent in their outrage.

The point is that the conversation around when an immigrant commits an attack like this is that all immigrants are targetted with the same brush.

There have been conversations on this board before we even knew about this attack about how that differs wildly to when a 'local' or whatever carries out this attack.

The same attitude will be if this turned out to be an Eastern European man. The bad-faith actors will all come out of the woodwork and blame immigration again. Get them all out etc etc.

As I have pointed out numerous times - the common denominator in the vast majority of these attacks is men. Men of different races, ethnicities, religions and nationalities. However, for many on here, it would be unacceptable to raise that because 'not all men'.

Yet, when an immigrant does it, it's always all immigrants. They're the ones targetted, they're the ones burned out of their homes and you will have people here making excuses for that.

I'll be waiting with bated breath for PM Keir Starmer to convene a COBRA meeting and come out with a press conference decrying the rising Islamophobia in the UK. 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

He might have other things on his mind.

I had a joke lined up but would have been in bad taste. It wrote itself in this scenario.

It always seems much more acceptable to even mention the possible factor of mental health when it's not an immigrant, though. If you dared mention it with someone like the Parnell St. attacker, you'd be told where to go.

"Ah, the poor dote. Cop on to yourself." (31 thanks)

None of our friends doing the 'liking' can ever explain that if there is supposedly a big problem with a specific religion or ethnic minority, why there aren't thousands or even tens of thousands of such random attacks every year, rather than some lone and isolated nutter going on the rampage.
