    Hello

I stupidly applied for my Irish passport renewal on the 18th June 2026- I am due to travel with my young family Thursday 25th June. Yes….totally my error. Just wondering if anyone has any positivity or has been in a similar situation? Thanks in advance.

my passport was due for renewal in September and i renewed in May.

I did it online and didn’t have to send my expiring passport to the passport office so my current passport was still in date so maybe you’ll get away with it if it was still in date after you renewed.

Unless it gets scanned at the airport but usually that only happens on long haul flights where I can’t check in online.

    Could be wrong though.

Is there any harm in saying a mass?

Con tact the passport office, ask them can you reapply and call to the passport office for same day renewal. We did it a couple of years ago, passport took 3 hours from when we went in. (and you don't need to prove that it's needed for any reason,, despite what some people might tell you)

I was about to say the same. Renewed mine last year and the turnaround was a couple of days.

    Contact a TD or Senator.

They can help in cases like this.

FFS, FGS, SFS, SDS etc. etc.

Any of them, all parties or none.

Or you can of course DIY it 🙂

We had something similar recently, you can track progress of your passport on this page: https://www.ireland.ie/en/dfa/passports/contact-us/

You may need to go for an emergency passport application. I suggest you call into the passport office in person, try to be there for 9am and have passport photos and everything with you. If you're lucky, you could be in the office for a couple of hours in the morning and collect it on the same day around 3pm - 3:30pm.

There were no bookings available before the flight for us, so we tried calling into the office in person, the staff were very helpful. We needed to come back a second day because we had to go off to get passport photos (you need physical passport photos for an emergency passport) & missed the window for getting in applications for same day processing. Arrive early & with everything you need!
