But likely Anderson for 120 isn't even an option as he seems to want city

If it hits 80 for MF I would say 10m+ would be add-ons. MF has impressed for 2 different PL teams in consecutive seasons - that's a decent track record imo

I'm not debating Baleba with you in any way. I'm just pointing out that be it 65, 70, 75 mill it makes feck all difference. Fernandes is a top class player and those top class players are making that money.

Wharton, Tchouameni, Tonali are all going to be 80mill. What was Caicedo ?? Top midfielders are making as much as Strikers

I was referencing premier league seasons because that’s one of the points. Who has shown they can do it in the league and presents less of a risk (you’ve highlighted Baleba’s inconsistency before). If not, then Fernandes time before Soton cancels out Baleba in Lille anyways.

I’m not sure the comparison works well. Baleba was a more mid-late summer concept when desperation was rising and United seemed the only team interested. There’s been interest in Fernandes since West again were relegated from multiple clubs it seems. It’s still early enough in the window and Ederson already being secured has removed the equivalent desperation imo.

It’s kind of the same logic of Carrick won’t work because Ole didn’t. Similar outcomes are possible of course but it seems a surface level comparison.

As before, depends on risk appetite. I think the reality is the days of us being the market overlords in terms of spending power and general pull are well and truly gone. We generally seem to be in the market for the players with hopefully the potential to be the next top player in that position than the incumbents. Let’s see what happens.

Liverpool looking to sign a 19yr old for 80m, it's the sign of the times unfortunately.

i think hull and ipswich being our opening 2 games may slow down our transfer window.

no need to have players in for the start of the season for 2 games we should be winning regardless.

apparently WHU need to raise 140m before the end of june to comply with FFP reg's. we've also been linked with summerville in recent days, so maybe we go do a double deal that would suit WHU? 120m for the 2 would be alright.

West Ham are not getting 80m. I think it'll be 60ish mil, with a 10m add on, which is fine, means hes doing well if met.

The cost is spread over the length of the contract aswell.

Club need to decided weather Dorgu is a LB or LW. That side needs looking in to.

Summervile for 40ish. Another Ederson type deal for midfield to add depth as well.

We have money, just need to spend it wisely and not on a bug splurge on one player imo. Been there, done that.

Anderson for the money they want is a hard no for me. Fat too expensive, we have no idea if he has the mentality to play for the biggest club in the PL, like any signing. Its too much of a risk to spend that amount when we could fill 2 spots for the same amount.

Not every signing will work out but the test for the players coming in is the weight of the club/badge, doesnt matter if your a low ball Dorgu/Lammens signing or a DiMaria/Veron type.

Midfield needs numbers of quality, last summer was a great bit of buisness imo, so im more confiddnt the club will do well this summer.

cunha starting up top for brazil. i think he locks that position down for the remainder of the tournament.

so he'll be like a new signing next season - no need for sub striker cos cunha will do that. no need for a sub LW cos dorgu will do that.

no need for a new LB cos maz will do that.

jokes and kidding aside, i fear we are now operated by people who think like this.

    cunha scores again

There is absolutely no evidence that we are run by people who think like that, you've just made that up in your head. If that was the case then why did they sign M'Buemo last year when we already had Amad? No reason to sign Lammens as we had Heaton, Bayinder and Onana.

For midfield I think we get the Fernandes deal done. Wouldn't be stunned if we moved for Goretzka too. On a free, won't want stupid wages and won't need to play every single game.

we have had 1 striker for the last 3 seasons i think? mbuemo was stuck up there doing nothing for maybe 5-7 games?

for maz at LB, that was a joke.

    imagine he was available today.

too much, no doubt, would far too many cry while also whinging about a declining team.

Again I'm in no way against signing Fernandes but if the fee gets close to 80m now with Spurs being interested then I'd rather see if we can get Wharton, Tchouameni or Tonali for that 80m.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,102 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Newcastle aren't going to sell Tonali that cheap when other teams are asking for similar money for their players and Forest want £120M for Anderson.

I don't think Wharton and Mainoo work together. Good player I like him and had Mainoo left I think he'd be the perfect Mainoo replacement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,862 ✭✭✭SteM

I certainly don't see a Wharton as an £80m player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,102 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Unfortunately that's the way football has gone. Though I think Palace will look to cash in and won't play hard ball with negotiations.

Alex Scott is probably someone else you might get cheaper. Bournemouth want him to sign a new deal which will include a £75M release clause. He's got two years left on his deal and they probably think it will be hard to squeeze that much out of a club with his contract running down.

    spurs showing us up.

Tottenham is very close to reaching an agreement with Mateus Fernandes on the contract.

There have still been no official negotiations with West Ham.

Mateus Fernandes, also on the radar of other big clubs, is open to signing for Tottenham.

Lot to be said for staying in London for "some"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

How are they showing us up when it's been reported we've agreed terms with the player and are in negotiations with WH?

If anything Spurs are behind us.

What standards? You put a comment on the thread with no source and are acting like the world is falling when absolutely nothing has changed.

you always have whitwell in your nonsense reporting of the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,782 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

    Because Whitwell is highly reliable.

Yes my daily waffle is nonsense, it's a bit of crap to fill these quiet summer days but compared to your stupid comment last night....

cunha starting up top for brazil. i think he locks that position down for the remainder of the tournament.

so he'll be like a new signing next season - no need for sub striker cos cunha will do that. no need for a sub LW cos dorgu will do that.

no need for a new LB cos maz will do that.

jokes and kidding aside, i fear we are now operated by people who think like this.

With little to no evidence to back up claims my waffle posts are gold in comparison.

Now toddle off and do something better with your life other than coming on here whinging and crying because life isn't like Football Manager and attacking posters.

    Embarrassing carry on.
