For all the stick that the US has got over the decades about ball - their fans are great fans and very engaged in game - even when ****. Fair play - they love their ball.

Cahill once called Drogba a “poof” on a sports report on morning newstalk. Long time ago. Hes got his own style

Seattle would be one of the cities with a history of soccer going back even to the old NASL and the Seattle Sounders.

Well as europeans - we need to grow up too and go - fair play , fantastic fans . Delighted for them as they would be long term ball fans.

Were the 2 lads in a pub and having the craic and occasionally watching the match on the TV in the corner because that's what it felt like.

I'm surprised none of the RTE panel have referenced the commentary from the two lads

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,319 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Imagine if RTE pulled the rug out from everyone now and get Hugh and Kenny to cover the Scotland game as well ?

Over to ITV just in case

have you ever heard Hugh Cahill commentating on the rugby??

    Absolutely abysmal..

Has zero clue what’s actually happening in the game and constantly makes the wrong call as to what’s actually happening….

he was once calling France v England where France had to win the game for Ireland to win the 6 nations, and France were winning what was a 1 score game and England were attacking the French line and France turned the ball over with the clock in the red, and gobşh1te started screaming “Ireland are 6 nations champions, Ireland are 6 nations champions”, completely missing the fact that France didn’t kick it to touch but wanted to play on and score the beautiful try.. so it could have been easily turned over and England could have scored… they didn’t and we won, but still…. This fool was shocked France didn’t kick to touch so we would be champions…

    Pr1ck.

Hopefully this next game is better than the last. And Des & Ray should do a better job commentating especially since they are in the stadium

It’s honestly beyond a joke what the Licence fees are wasted on. Everyone involved in that commentary including the Producer should be sent packing. To say stealing a living would be kind, a shower of muppets the lot of them.

Des Curran will be a welcome relief. At least there’s one decent Irish commentator at this World Cup

Will Morocco prove they are the real deal? Scotland picking a very conservative team that a good team would put away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,772 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

dont really care as you could tell from the pundit line up that it wasn’t going to be good and other options are available but the public wanted RTE to be done on a much tighter budget. Maybe Declan mcbennett should do more with less but this is the upshot of those budget cuts

I haven’t seen a picture but it sounds like he’s put on a bit of timber.

Most uninspiring interview from a manger I ever heard, hope clarke is better in the dressing room

The biggest question I have so far about this world cup is which pundit/commentator is the biggest gobshite? Cawley, Cunningham or Hamann?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,772 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Morocco will absolutely go at them but no sure they have the firepower to blow them away

Good to see that most are in agreement about that "commentary" team that we just witnessed. It was beyond abysmal, a national TV station covering a World Cup match is not entitled to put on such an inept performance.

Cunningham is beyond a joke at this stage - he seems to be his own biggest fan. Cahill isn't far behind him. Combining the two was a recipe for disaster, and so it transpired.

No insight into the match was offered, no statistical information was presented, no sense of professionalism existed.

Did they think they were beyond taking a professional approach to their job? It was abysmal stuff - hopefully RTE will find a red card for both of them...
