Infantino not a fan of that goal.

    That was comical

Unnecessary FIFA replay of whether Canada's 6th goal was onside or not. They've created these animations, and by God, people are going to see them, whether they like it or not.

    It was so close.

Jesse Marsch looks and reminds me of Jeremy Kyle. Absolute nonsense from him at the final whistle. SMH!

Alan Cawley went off on a mad rant about Jesse Marsch. Alan is a tool himself, so he would know.

Ooh testy between Cawley and Kelly in the studio.

Alan is still going on in his rant. It's funny in a way, it's at an almighty hour, so most people won't see it. Now he's arguing with Stephen Kelly.

Loved that clearance, was offside though.

Comical mistake by the Korean keeper.

Great save by the Mexican keeper.

Korea banging on the door the last few minutes.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,973 Mod ✭✭✭✭Say Your Number

Mexican wrestled a Korean player to the ground and nothing from the ref.

Mexico the first team though to the knock out stages, the Czechs will be hoping for a Italy 2016 performance from Mexico, although how sh1te they are it might not make any difference.

Son has had his day too. Went off to the retirement league a year too early.

    Few thoughts:

    • I cannot describe the rage I feel when I see Gianna Infantino. He typifies everything that's wrong with football. Crooked, bend over and no shame attitude. He is a proxy with no control and a fn moron who in time will be seen as the flying idiot he is.
    • With that said, the world cup has been pretty decent so far, all things considered. I always use 2010 as the bench for how boring a world cup could be. Plenty of goals this group stage and even the matches where it's low scoring it's cool because it's been underdogs like Cape Verde holding on for a result, which is knife in the mouth stuff watching.
    • Water breaks, utter and pointless addition and ties in with point one and the moron who would allow such a thing, but of course this is the organisation which made up an award for one of the most evil tyrants of our time.
    • The stadiums themselves have looked world-class, and honestly, I have seen no issues with the pitches, the stadium in Mexico for Mexico v S.Korea was a piece of architectural beauty.
    • Time difference has kinda been suiting to be honest. 3 back to back games in the evenings and missing one in the morning. Personally don't mind missing the morning game, unless it's two titans facing off, which has not been the case.

    Biggest annoyance:

The RTE commentary. I don't have ITV available and only have RTE player available so stuck with the collection of ill-informed, stumbling "what's going on?" even though we're watching the same game commentary.

I swear. Ray Houghton cannot seem to distinguish what is happening in a penalty area, constantly getting the call wrong.

Then Darragh Maloney, who you can tell is out there without a paddle, no interest in the game, constantly narrowing in on weird hyper-specific things that have nothing to do with the game, like players' reactions, their age, how long someone stayed on the ground. Just fckn commentate on the game Darragh!

Then put those two together, they are just stumbling over each other, and Daragh has the most annoying habit of constantly challenging his co-host. STFU, they are there to give their opinion, not be challenged on it continuously. If Ronnie Moan Whelan wants to say a team doesn't look up for it, then you don't have to say something to challenge that. We literally don't care about your opinion; your job is to spectate, embellish a bit, one or two comments and loop in your co-host for thoughts on the game, not you.

Stephen Kelly shouldn't be near a match commentating, made some cringe joke about the game being boring, and they should get energy drinks, and that might do something. Nearly died of cringe.

Honestly. RTE football panel/commentators are in dire need of a refresh.

RTE should get some women in, like ITV and the BBC do. If the female officials continue to do well, they could get to referee the Final.

Cawley is weird. Why does he shout constantly instead of talking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,061 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

Cantwell and Hurley are near enough pundits and they had a footballer I think on yesterday who challenged Dieter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,879 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Kenny Cunningham needs glasses, said the American player was clearly offside. No he wasn't. 2-0 now.

Commentary on this is shocking. A meandering conversation while there’s a game of football on in the background.

Commentary talking about a hurling match last week. What on earth.

I know we were spoiled with George Hamilton for decades but this is dreadful.

Like two people in the pub with the match on in the background

Yes I caught the end of it he’s trying to imitate Roy Keane but came across more like Fr Noel Furlong

Turned off the sound 20 minutes ago. Ridiculous stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,061 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

RTE Comms team need a good talking to. Absolutely rubbish being talked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 Trevor_Cory

If I was in any position of power within the FAI I'd be on the phone to the RTE head of sport, this paints football in the country in a terrible light. I'll raise with my TDs as well because, like many, I pay a licence and expect at least a baseline standard from sports commentary. It doesn't have to be amazing but there is an expected level of quality that is simply not on display here.

Yeap switched to BBC, couldn't hack RTE. They're saying "hurling, cork, water breaks, but it was raining." Fook Off
