Todays models don't seem as overly crazy hot as the ones we were seeing past few days, still looks warm next week but nothing too crazy, 21 to 26C is probably what most of us will see, still some time for this to upgrade again tho.

Interesting model watching ahead, I find the Netweather forum very informative, The AIFS was slow to come on board with the heat but is there now. It’s verification stats are currently very good? The ECM ensembles seem very good too. Am I misreading this or does it show the 20c isotherm over or close to Ireland next Friday on AIFS.

I had a quick look at the ensembles for Athenry which is the closest weather station to me, it doesn’t seem like it’s a major outlier but maybe not the average?

    it does

That would be quite humid with a Biscay maratime flow

Convection/thunderstorms increase in likelihood given the probable convergence zone that might set up somewhere if that were to very

ECM 6z continues with hot hot hot potential. Fascinating period of model watching, plumes can be so fickle and end up drifting to our east time and time again. But we are still on track for a whack.

Dew points on Thursday above 20c in parts on the charts.

Irish people often overplay our humidity (not all high relative humidity = humid, notably so when your dealing with sub 20 degree air temperatures and the air doesn't have the same water holding capacity), but dew points over 20c?

That is utterly humid, the type of chewy soupy oppressive air that wouldn't be out of place somewhere tropical.

Arpege has 33C for the SW Wednesday and 41C over England. The model does love to exaggerate maximum temps.

During the heat in May I found it was the best at predicting the max temperature.

That would beat uk record as I think their record stands at 40.6⁰c if I'm not mistaken

I don't usually find it exaggerates too much, this evenings temps for example.

26c both forecasted and recorded. Unless things change it should easily beat their June record of 35.6.c anyway.

Wondering with the wet start to June, and wet/drying ground, will that peg back temperatures a degree or two. Usually hottest spells of weather after long dry periods when the ground is very dry.

Atlantic now spoiling things as soon as Friday, so we essentially extract about 1 proper hot day from the European heatwave, then back to where we were at the start of June, with summer on hold.

Ohhh what could have been, or what could be if the Atlantic could just F off for more than a few days.

Never seem to catch a break do we? At least we can enjoy the coming week and hope for surprises in the output ... you never know what the models could be saying a day or two from now ...

I mean when extremes happen. And clearly I'm not the only one who thinks so as Meteorite58 commented the same in the shorter range thread.

Still vividly remember it saying 34C in late June 2018.

So a week of warm to hot weather before the Atlantic potentially takes over and cools us down. It might be a week to loiter for a bit in the frozen section of a supermarket before that happens. I suspect we could be back here soon enough after any breakdown next weekend.

Hi all, thanks for all the info.

Is it currently looking like a breakdown on Friday ish? But that outlook could change in the coming days?

Confidence is high enough of a breakdown on Friday (unfortunately). Hopefully we wont’t have to wait too long for the high pressure to come back over us.

Extremely unstable air aloft over Ireland during the week, hopefully its the heat rather than severe thunderstorms/tornadoes making the headlines by the end of the week !

Looks quite uncomfortable some of the days with such high wet bulb tems. Clammy.

Edit: meant to post in under +120hrs thread...
