Germany sending 2 ships to the strait but need permission from Iran and Oman which is doubtful they will get.

Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has said Germany is deploying two ships to the Red Sea to prepare for a potential mine-clearing mission in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking as he arrived for a NATO meeting in Brussels, Pistorius said: “As we speak, our minesweeper ‌Fulda and the supply ship Mosel are sailing through the Suez Canal towards the Red Sea.”

Pistorius said approval would be needed from Iran and Oman before any participation in a minesweeping operation, and added any mission would also depend ‌on developments in further talks between Iran and ‌the ‌US.

I'm not censoring you. I'm pointing agreeing with someone pointing out your anti-Semitic posting. You're well able to make up stuff yourself, it would seem.

your words were (quoting you quoting yourself)…

My concerns are Congress won’t cut Netanyahu off. Their (politicians including Democrats!!) campaigns are funded by the Jews (i.e., just about everyone from AIPAC, special interest groups, wealthy individuals…)

You'd used the phrase "The Jews". Not "some pro-Israeli organisations", not "some Jewish campaign groups". No, you used the words "The Jews". You are the mirror image of the neo-fascists complaining about "The Muslims". Prejudice is prejudice, whether from the left or the right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,478 ✭✭✭dmcdona

What was antisemitic about that post?

As far as I am aware, AIPAC is a pro-Israeli organisation funded (presumably predominantly) by Jews.

I genuinely don't see the issue but happy to be enlightened as to the reasons for your assertion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,397 ✭✭✭Enduro

If I said "The Muslims are stabbing our children in broad daylight", it would be Islamophobic. If I said "A Muslim stabbed a child in broad daylight" it would not be (although I personally would still not see the relevance of religion, even if a technically accurate descriptor). Neo-fascists have been using the first form of terminology to attempt to whip up Islamophobic fears.

Same thing here. There is a big difference between "The Jews", and "organisations backed by some Jewish people". That form of terminology is a mirror image of the nasty neo-fascist Islamophobia. Similarly, it would seem that the issue with the organisations in question, in reality, has nothing to do with "the Jews", but is in fact their lobbying for the Israeli government.

So you're saying the key word that makes any statement referring to Jews is the word "the".

"The Jews fund AIPAC" - antisemitic

"Jews fund AIPAC" - not antisemitic

    Correct?

If so, that appears to look like a dangerous precedent (to me).

    Travellers - not racist

    The Travellers - racist

    Brits - not racist

    The Brits - racist

    Palestinians - not racist

    The Palestinians - racist

I'm no expert on antisemitism by the way as I've said. Perhaps it's more subtle or a case of context, nuance etc. that makes a particular phrase antisemitic in one context, but in another, it isn't. My examples above may also be missing the mark…

Your example of "The Muslims" versus Muslims above does ring true by the way and certainly I see your point there.

"The Jews have existed for many thousands of years" doesn't appear to be antisemitic to me? But the context is clear there I guess. It's benign compared to say "The Jews are hateful" which I would clearly see as antisemitic.

Genuinely interested and value your knowledge/opinion. Perhaps I just need to think about it a bit more and educate myself.

But you and I are totally clear on antisemitism - call it out.

Jaysus, he sounded almost sane and vaguely statesmanlike there for a few minutes.

The simple explanation would be that the Israelis wildly overplayed their hand. They seemed to assume it was a downright impossibility that the US could turn on them and tell them to 'shove it', to the point where they thought they could attack Trump with gusto this week over his Iran peace deal and there would be no repercussions.

    Vance actually did say:

"We do not want Hezbollah attacking Israel. But to ensure that happens, we have to actually build the kind of regional framework that can cut off money to Hezbollah, cut off Iranian support for Hezbollah. And also ensure Israel’s territorial sovereignty is respected."

IMAGINE VANCE STATING THIS (in a parallel universe):
"We do not want Israel attacking Palestine. But to ensure that happens, we have got to actually build the kind of regional framework that can cut off money to Israel, cut off US support for Israel. And also ensure Palestine’s territorial sovereignty is respected."

I think what happened with the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) activists made a difference. Countries have been forced to acknowledge the reality of Israeli National Zionist government’s policies and actions. Citizens from 40 or more countries were involved. They can’t disavow their own citizens.

In late May, the GSF lawyers, medical personnel and victims said they wanted to “challenge the systemic impunity of the israeli regime”.

The activists have now formally lodged an official submission in The Hague (ICC). This included their eyewitness testimonies - what happened to them after they were abducted by Israeli Occupation Forces (iOF) and in custody. They attached their documented medical assessments. (Reportedly, over 30 individuals were assessed as needing direct hospital care immediately on arrival in Crete). ⬇️

    https://www.globalsumudflotilla.org/press/global-sumud-flotilla-volunteers-submit-accounts-of-iof-torture-sexual-violence-and-abduction-to-the-icc/

US has shielded their Middle East ally Israel from international accountability (e.g., at UNSC) - running political cover. This is why countries like UK, Australia, Canada... chose soft diplomacy while Gaza was razed to the ground…. And, while 21,000 innocent children (conservative figure) were killed with US BOMBS, AND US FUNDING.

So who is going to rein in Israel?

Iran postpones its negotiating delegation trip to Switzerland, citing ongoing Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon. JD Vance has also cancelled his trip.

Simple question. How many countries have Iran invaded in the last hundred years?

Whatever about was going on in past decades, the main destabilising influence in the Middle East is Israel. They seem hellbent on perpetual war - bombing countries and killing people is their default setting. I think the only difference is that everyone is finally wising up to the chancers, even the Americans.

The Jews means all jews. The Jews follow judiasm and/ or have Jewish lineage is a fair statement I think.

The Jews support the IDF is clearly unfair as a large proportion of The Jews do not support the IDF.

Semantics. It seems some people don't care that much anymore about semantics when there is a genocide in progress. Same way The Germans were called The Krauts or whatever during World War 2 despite many being against the nazi takeover but we can at least try to remain civilized and empathetic.

Yes I think you are right. That flotilla was hugely successful in changing the narrative and how the world views Israel. Ben Gvir is the gift that keeps giving in exposing what the Israeli government is all about.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I see Ben Gvir tweeted out another horrifying statement. Same type of rethoric the likes of Ben Shapiro accuse Iran of

For every tear of an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must weep. All of Lebanon must burn,

This is why the old Testament was revolutionary, i.e. an eye for an eye

It's like Israel has given in to their worst instincts.

Except it is not an eye for an eye, it is a thousand eyes for an eye, It is truly depraved.

Problem is, it seems a majority of the population are quite supportive of this kind of thing. With the elections coming up it seems even if Netanyahu gets kicked out another bunch of crazies take over. I might be wrong, i don't know for sure.

That's what I said. Before the old Testament moved to an eye for an eye, genocide was cool. The new testament goes further and talks about forgiveness.

Israel seems to have devolved into a pre biblical society. The USA did horrendous things in Nagasaki/ Hiroshima but at least they stopped. I don't know what happened to Israel but it's really does not seem good.

The crazy thing is that even the Nazis weren't as explicit as this in public utterances. Genocidal talk was couched in vague, ambiguous language that could be interpreted in different ways. This guy is openly calling for war crimes, genocide, collective punishment, you name it.

Israel clearly giving two fingers to the US and making them look very foolish with their claims of ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel.

Time for the US to sh1t or get off the pot as they say. Put a leash and a muzzle on that rabid dog.

Israel playing with fire - the US provide a lot of weapons to Israel including those that replenish iron dome and their other defence systems.

The just-agreed ceasefire, if it goes like all the others, will be over in all but name by breakfast.

The tamir missile, the interceptor used by Iron Dome is primarily built by a RTX & Rafael joint venture in East Camden, Arkansas.
Iron Dome system itself is Israeli badged but it is funded to the tune of a total of $2.6billion by US Congress since 2011 for R&D and production.

The warheads, guidance systems and other parts built there are exported to Israel to be built in to full missiles.
In addition, the US factory also builds All Up Rounds that are supplied to Israel and the USMC.
About 80% of the US facility's production is directly for Israeli use.

A huge amount of Israel's advanced weaponry is subject to final assembly in Israel.
With the major components, electronics, warheads and other sub assemblies being built in the US.
The Arrow 2 & 3 interceptors and David's Sling all are built the same way.
Israel assembles the kit, it doesn't manufacture the entire missile nor have control of the entire supply chain.
They are all subject to US ITAR controls.

^ MEANINGS OF “THE JEWS “ DEPEND ON CONTEXT. AND CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING.

“The Jews” can alternatively mean an ethnicity, a culture, a group of religions, a nation, or a political entity (Zionism). Jewish pressure groups contribute to a blurring of context when they use the word “Jew”. This blurring is intentional and used as one of the tools of influence. Just like now “the Jews” is being used to label me as an antisemite.

l clarified to you-engineerws that my original post was about powerful Israeli pressure lobby groups who directly influence Congress.

I will further add, the Jewish lobby group AIPAC should be registered as a foreign agent. And the congress members and senators who are taking their money should be registered for unconditional support of Israel - no matter how bad they are. My argument for registration is they are doing the bidding of a foreign power.

Starry: Australian filmmaker Sally Lamont relates how she was vaginally raped, sexually molested... Sally said: “... everyone on that boat thought they were going to be executed and that is not an exaggeration.”

It was a political stunt for Ben-Gvir’s reelection. Ben-Gvir won’t be held accountable.

BBC NEWS “Australia to probe assault claims by Gaza flotilla activists against Israeli forces”
By Lana Lam, Sydney 16 June 2026
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyx4eny41zo

“The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are investigating claims that Israeli forces raped and tortured a group of activists who were detained after trying to deliver aid to Gaza by boat.

“The move was announced shortly after four female activists, who were part of the Global Sumud flotilla in May, met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and senior officials including police on Monday.
    [...]

“After Monday's meeting, one of the activists, Juliet Lamont, said Wong "believes" the group's claims against Israeli forces and police had indicated they would take action. "They have committed to an independent investigation into our allegations of kidnapping, abuse, rape, torture," Lamont told reporters.

The AFP [Australian Federal Police] confirmed it had "begun inquiries into allegations made by a representative of the group" and that it "engages with a victim centric, trauma-informed approach".

Middle East Eye 2 weeks ago Editor's note: This video includes graphic descriptions of sexual violence.

    https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZC-VcbDKD1/?hl=en

"In an interview with Double Down News, Australian filmmaker Juliet Lamont, who participated in the most recent Global Sumud Flotilla action, described the abuse, violence, and sexual assault that she along with other activists were subjected to while arrested by Israeli forces in international waters.

"Lamont described being raped by male Israeli soldiers, groped by female officers, and heavily beaten, shackled, and insulted throughout the detention.

"In the full interview, she outlined step by step how the Israeli forces illegally intercepted the boats, started amassing "like sardines" the Flotilla's participants, and threw them in a prison-ship where torture of all sorts was committed against them.

The apartheid state have now redefined what a ceasefire means. Sums up Zionism perfectly, rules for thee not for me because we are special and allowed to get away with things.

Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz again.

And around and around we go unless the US actually puts manners on Israel.
