Yes. Its Enzo that Real are after. I think Mateus prefers us over any other club.

Didn't they sign a left winger already today?

Not sure I saw it posted but this was worth a read. Open letter from Diomande to his sister

Will be interesting to see if they bid and what they'll bid. They've got some cash to spend going by the Van Hecke deal.

Could see him at PSG especially if Barcola leaves. He's good with both feet but his stronger foot is his right. Even if Barcola doesn't leave they rotate in the league and Doure plays centrally in the league at times. Would be plenty of minutes.

Anything I read from Fernandes is he wants to come here.

Could be nonsense but I can see why.

He is only 21 and wants to play and improve.

He is not going to be a regular for Madrid or PSG and who would choose Spurs over United.

Hopefully we get it done soon.

€100 million for a young fella who's a decent attacker in the BL? Yeah, ive read that book before.

Not a bad start - two promoted teams in the first two games.

Last 6 or 7 very favourable i think. If they can get any sort of run going there isnt any really tough fixtures coming in imo

I hope we have other options in mind because paying anything close to £80m would be absolutely mental.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭MercuryBoy

Ederson with 1 year left on his contract for £34 million, Van Hecke with 1 year left on his contract for £52 million, West Ham can justifiably ask for £65-70 million if you ask me

What options are out there ? Enzo 100m+ Anderson 120m Scott 60m Tonali 90m, Sander Berge mid table team player. As MB said we gave 34m ++ for a 27yo on his last year of his contract. Even the scouse rumoured to bid 80m for a 19yo winger

Todays waffle oh boy the first one is pure drivel.

Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in signing Mason Greenwood, who is valued at €80m. #mufc have a 40% sell-on clause [@lequipe , @GFFN ]—————

@lauriewhitwell on Mateus Fernandes : #WHUFC want £80m, but #MUFC won't pay that. A structured deal like £60m+£10m add-ons could work. Personal terms are no issue, player wants United. PSG are rivaling, but Bruno factor helps. #MUFC are waiting to see who blinks first.—————-

@lauriewhitwell on Alex Scott and #MUFC:

"It’s a little bit of a development, but Arsenal are interested in him. That might be a rival for United if they want to progress with the Scott situation. Bournemouth are trying to get him to sign a new contract and put a release clause in there for £75M. That’s more than clubs would be willing to pay with two years left on his deal."

    [@StretfordPaddck]——————

Per TyMarshall_MEN, the talked about release clause for clubs in Marcus Rashford's contract is actually a gentleman's agreement, not a cast-iron clause——————-

Tottenham Hotspur among clubs keen on signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United - separate to #THFC pursuit of Sandro Tonali. Interest driven by Roberto De Zerbi; wants #WHUFC talent as well as #NUFC midfielder. W/ @DTathletic @SebSB @TheAthleticFC —————-

#thfc do LIKE Mateus Fernandes, but he has his heart set on joining Manchester United. 💰🇵🇹

    @szyexcl ——————

𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐃 Mateus Fernandes’ situation at the moment:

United have started working a few WEEKS ago, with direct contacts with West Ham and his agent, already discussing personal terms. Club in concrete conversations.

Tottenham CALLED the player's agent, had a conversation, and are interested.

At Real Madrid, he is a name under consideration after Jose Mourinho mentioned him in board meetings 10 days ago. #MUFC [@FabrizioRomano]

    ——————-

BREAKING: RB Leipzig turn down €100m proposal received from Liverpool for Yan Diomandé.

RB Leipzig want more than €100m as still try to keep him — understand €120m could be the way… for now, based on WC performances too.

Leipzig expect PSG and more clubs to join the race.

€90m plus €10m from Liverpool not enough, as @philipphinze24 reported .——————

Aurelien Tchouaméni’s agents met with #mufc before the incident with Federico Valverde. The meeting was to gauge the situation [@Rodra10_97 , @theMadridZone ]—————-

Paying way over the odds. There's talent there but it hasn't been tested at a higher level yet.

Seems the days of Liverpool being cautious and finding bargains in the market are well and truly gone

My main problem is and I hope I'm wrong but its looking like it'll be Ederson and Fernandes will be the marquee midfield signing, I like Fernandes for 60ish million it would be grand but if Spurs interest turns into a bidding war and it ends up being close to 80m I think they should walk away.

I'm think of looking into tickets for United V Spurs on Saturday 10th October for my son's birthday.

Does anyone know how likely this fixture is to change or is it too early to say yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,725 ✭✭✭xtal191

It'll probably depend on the Champions League fixtures on the 13th/14th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,203 ✭✭✭Robson99

I get your concerns, but what other options are out there ?

Cheers, yeah I kinda thought that might be the case alright. I see the league stage draw for the champions league isn't until 27th August so probably a risk until the dates are confirmed.

Its flippin hilarious considering they spent the guts of £300m on forward players last summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,697 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Fernandes is this years Baleba. Young midfielder touted as the next big thing and immediately priced at silly money. Except with less PL games and relegated in both seasons he played.

Imagine paying 80m for Fernandes to solve the midfield problem and he has a season like Baleba just had. It would derail the season and get Carrick sacked.

If we are paying big money it needs to be for a sure thing, or as sure as anybody can be in football.

Fernandes is flavour of the month, but is he a sure thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭thefa

Except he already had a good debut season with Southampton and was bought by West Ham for big money and had another good season. Baleba has more games played because he’s had an extra season which I don’t think earned him any more credit.

The relegation point in an 11-a-side sport... It’s as easy and more logical to surmise that he’s capable of more surrounded by better players.

Big money hasn’t guaranteed anything for a good few years now. Some risks are less riskier than others though. He’s going to end up at a good team either way so we’ll get to see how he performs. Hope it’s united.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,697 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Good debut season, bought by a PL club for big money, then had another good season? Thats Baleba…

The parallels are all there, I just hope the club are open eyed about what they are actually doing and not just getting into a bidding war for a young player because thats where the hype is this summer.

I wouldn't be against spending money on Fernandes if we already had a couple of solid signings for midfield, the type that would start the season and give him time to settle in without much pressure. Buts thats not where we are, and we should be realistic about it.

So who would you like us to sign before fernandes ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,697 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,203 ✭✭✭Robson99

Ya signed from a club that was relegated. Didn't turn out too bad.

It's easy say that 80 mill is too much but where is there value in the transfer market when top players come available

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,697 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Why is it controversial to point out that there are huge similarities between Baleba and Fernanades, and that a Baleba style downturn should we buy Fernandes for big money would be a horrendous problem for the team?

Who would I buy? I don't play that game, I'm not a scout. But if its 80m for a midfielder I would find it hard to believe there isn't a more proven option somewhere for that sort of money.

We don't need the next wonderkid in midfield, we need a couple of solid signings to give a better and more reliable platform for Mainoo and Bruno.

To be honest I don't know but surely the clubs scouts can find someone who would be better value, I just think 80 million is far too much for him but if we get him closer to 60 million then great go ahead.

I'd rather have Anderson for 120m than Ederson and Fernandes for 120m. Again I like Fernandes but I'd have concerns about him and Mainoo being the main midfield two.
