O'Loughlun was an obvious change. Coyne lucky to keep his spot imo. I would expect one change to that team. I think Conroy should start as he needs a full game under his belt if we hit CP.

It might be wishful thinking, but I really think that we are going to get a big performance from Tommy Conroy very shortly. Hopefully it will be tomorrow, or there may not be another chance for this year. He is (slowly) getting better, and hopefully it will happen for him very soon. I agree that he should start - have Kobe out around half forward and Stephen Coen on the bench.

What's the logic of naming 2 half backs in the half-forward line ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,440 ✭✭✭Westernview

The 2 half's backs in the forwards suggests to me a worry about midfield and a big emphasis on winning breaking ball. The scoring load is definitely placed on the FF line. There may be a change or though.

heading to castlebar today for a few pints and just wondering what’s best sports type bar to watch Leinster rugby match tonight and maybe a oub that would have racing on if I wanted to back a few horses?! Any good lively music bars then later on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,357 ✭✭✭HBC08

Johnny McHales or Maybe Irish House or Prendergasts would be the rugby pubs and showing the URC.

Mick Byrne might have the horse racing on.

Lively bars would be Bridge street,Irish House,Barrell And Castle (might be live music here, its the only late bar in town now unbelievably)

The Harp is a good spot for sport and there's a bookies right beside it. Small pub but always a bit of craic in there.

Lively pubs are at a premium, you'll probably get a bit of GAA craic in Mick Byrne's and a bit of music in Johnny McHales. Barrel and Castle the only late licence in town.

I find Mick Byrne's ok if you agree with him pontificating all the time. TBH, he thinks he's Gods gift to mankind on every topic under the sun. McHale's would be my go to pub for a pint and a bit of good banter.

How long are we going to wait for that big performance to come for Tommy Conroy? It feels like we have been saying that since he joined the panel! I don't know! His speed is exciting but there is rarely a score on the end of it! I really hope I'm wrong and would love to see him light up the scoreboard!

In fairness, he looked much sharper last week in Omagh, best he's looked since 2021.

I don't think he'll be a prolific scorer but his pace can still cause a lot of problems and create a lot of chances for others - his decision making (when to pass, when to shoot ) is the main area that needs improvement now that he seems to have his sharpness back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 866 ✭✭✭RedDevil55

Wouldn't agree with that. Conroy has had several very good performances since 2021.. e.g. Cork, Galway, Dublin 2023 and Galway, Dublin, Derry 2024. He obviously missed all 2022 and 2025 with injury along with a good chunk of the leagues in 23 and 26.

He was lively enough last week but there wasn't a whole pile of end product IMO. Surprised the amount of people saying he should start vs Meath.

I don't have any memory of him being very good in those games, but tbh the last few years have had very few bright points in my mind....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭Audioslaven

Yes I agree he has "as a whole" been a bit underwhelming, but I see the potential there and if he gets his head in order and goes at the game with the pace he has, he has the potential to be a nighmare for the opposition. It is time for him to start producing on a consistent basis and in a way the young bucks are highlighting some of the guys like conroy for their lack of match play and consistency. However, he did enough for me to come in instead of O'Loughlin. I also like Cian McHale and I think he got a bit of a raw deal to get dropped so soon.

Tommy Conroy's reputation has always really been hinging on the flashes he showed 2021 imo. The reality is he was always just a player who had potential but never quite capitalised on it due to the type of injuries he picked up. He isn't consistent or injury-free enough to be considered a top forward at this time, he is just someone people thought could have been. Hasn't proved it yet at all imo, and the fear for me is that the injuries are always going to be an issue.

thank you very much all. Just had a lovely meal in Bar One, first thing in hotel bar I was asked with Meath t shirt on was “ are you one of our own that went to Meath in 1950s ?” I’m not but funny enough a lad in the groups father is from Louisbourgh. His father and uncle came to move to Meath for working on buildings in dublin. From Trim to Naas is Mayo central , dunshauglin, dunboyne, Summerhill, Kilcloon . Every second house had mayo flags outside it in previous decade

Tommy had his moments back in those years , but in general he tends to drift in & out of games quite frequently.

Our victory over Dublin in AI semi -final he was non-existent for the majority of the game , but then came to life at the tail-end of normal time & extra time.

You only have to see how far ROD has developed compared to Tommy, given both players started their senior careers at the same time.

were thinking of parking on breaffy road facing back outwards! Or moneen Road… Good idea?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,023 ✭✭✭✭irishgeo

The industrial estate around there is a good spot.

Head exit by vantaive with a left turn on the breaffy es and you have you'll be on the new bypass in 2 mins. Don't try and turn right on to the moonen Rd as you get across.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,250 ✭✭✭Dickie10

we parked car up in N5 business park? What’s best route out? I was thinking turn right then right at next roundabout seem to bring you on a link rd onto N5?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,440 ✭✭✭Westernview

It's probably easier to go out the Breaffy road and get on the bypass instead of going directly out the N5.

    Wiped at midfield. Again.
    Get him on.
“Redemption” time again for one our best ever.

Meath could have been 12 up if they didn’t miss that free. That spurt before HT has made it a game again though.

Destroyed at midfield again, we might not have good fielders but Meath are winning some of them uncontested.

No shape to the defensive structure . They look like an u12 team back there. It’s probably the laziest performance I have ever seen, lads not willing to match runs, not sprinting back to get in position. Compare that to Meath, who are doing everything at pace on both sides of the field.

Attitude is the first thing that needs to chance! Need to show some passion.

    Never a red!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,167 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

I wonder did that lad’s reputation precede him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,215 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Not really. Terrible decision because the mayo lad dived but you'd have pulled us back regardless. Meath always do this.

I'm on the verge of a site ban. Please don't rage bait me, I'm easily triggered especially late at night!

Kerry and Mayo play their games Saturday I guess, would be unfair to give tomorrow's winners a 6 day break
