It just shows our collapse from being 2-0 in front was even worse than it looked. They are a very limited side and we did not play well for most of that play off.

It was that stupid penalty that brought them back in it. Plus home advantage and they won on penalties. They beat Denmark at home after that.

You could argue the case we are not great ourselves. I think this group would have been tricky for us and we might not have won a match. I think the South Koreans might well have beaten us in the opening game.

Haven’t seen either Mexico or SK

    Just to be there though!

The Koreans looked very lively in their opening match. We probably would have gone into that game full of confidence but they looked a very strong side and created a load of chances.

Not doubting it, just think it was a group we could have qualified out of.

    We will never know

Great to hear DJ Otzi in the year of our lord 2026.

Definitely a loss to South Korea, their energy alone is incredible. I think we'd be fit to beat South Africa though.

    Lovely finish, 2-0 Switzerland.

Just before the waterbreak Bosnia have a bit of momentum come close to scoring , have a throw in in the opposition half just after this and then the water reak is called before they can take the throw and all their momentum is stopped by as the waterbreak interrupts it

Since the waterbreak Switzerland have turned things around, its obvious how much a negative impact it had on the team who were pushing .

FIFA are **** ,no need for it at all on indoor stadiums but of course they decide to go ahead and have a negative impact on the sport for a small but more money.

Bit of a wild lunge, definite penalty, perfectly in the corner, 4-1 now.

    Didn’t think we’d see 5 goals

    Bosnian fans look very depressed.

Murat Yakin doesn't look out of place in California anyway.

What’s the story with players and staff going around talking into their hands. It’s it a new carry on?

That overwrought ad with Cole Palmer is pretty funny.

Been a thing for a while. I thought there was a rule for the world cup to cut it out.

1-0 Canada, keeper should have done better.

Only in a confrontation with an opposing player. It's fine everywhere else.

Having watched a lot of the Portugal match earlier, they need to drop Ronaldo. He should have been dropped during qualification. He's an unbelievably selfish player who got away with it for most of his career (obviously had crazy incidents like the Higuain tackle) by virtue of talent. He's now older, less mobile and tries to do things that he can no longer do.

His presence is detrimental to the team, there was a point where he could have moved into space to open things up but instead ran back in front of Fernandes and completely ballsed up a shot that would have been a potential tap in for Fernandez.

He is a player that I have disliked for a long time, I agree incredibly skillful and an amazing athlete, but he has shown time and again that he is selfish and classless (see refusing to shake hands with Congo players last night at the end). I think this selfishness is getting worse because he knows his career is done, he cannot accept that it's time to retire. Especially when looking at Messi who is having an absolute blast and still has the ability to play at this level.

He shouldn’t even have played. Didn’t he have his red card suspension overturned because special treatment.

Two poor enough teams here, along for the ride

Yeah, it was downgraded to a one game suspension with the remaining two games suspended for a year. FIFA do have wiggle room in their rule book to amend suspensions and Ronaldo isn't the first world cup bound player to benefit from it but he has got the highest profile. In general, it would be rare for a player to carry more than a one game suspension into a world cup.

Qatar press is useless Canada playing it around at their leisure. A better team would be 7 or 8 ahead

    Nasty. That’s a break

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,873 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That's a nasty tackle. They're not showing replays. I rewound it and watched it again, I think you can quite clearly hear the break.

What am I saying? Look at his leg immediately after and the player looking at what has happened to him. That's sickening. No need for that.

Watching again. It wasn't a malicious tackle. The Qatari player has kicked through the back of the Canadian player's left standing leg just as he had played a pass. The Canadian players and management knew straight away he had a broken leg.
