This is something that might help and be great also to get some feedback from others.

    **NO PERSONAL ATTACKS**

I have had a good few lessons over the years and as a 14 handicap I have taken bits from all lessons. This is my experience with those.

I did a group lesson in Elmgreen in around 2018 but I can't remember the coaches name. Nice guy and was a good starter.

Kevin Foy - Stepaside. Did maybe 3 lessons with Kevin and looking back now he gave really good points on my over the top swing, used some good aids, maybe a little technical at the time. I think he is still there now.

Hugh Feeney- Operated out of Athlone and Elmgreem, I did maybe 6 lessons with Hugh. Very good coach and a gent of a man. Would have stuck with him longer but he moved to Holland I believe.

Sergio Coyle Diaz - Did a programme I thhink over 3 months with Sergio. The programme I felt was far too complicated. Meeting with a physio first to asses movement and then lots of gadgets and gizomos. Might be worth it for a better player but felt overkill for me.

Dave Pelz - Did a one day short game course with Conor Devery in Killeeen and found it one of the best things I have done. I was the only person on the day but helped my game no end. Did this around 2020 and highly recommend.

David Ruddy - Operates in a number of places. Top class instructor but very direct. Has a set format for how to swing and sticks to that. I would say better suited to low handicappers or those with loads of time to spend implementing his methods rather than looking for quick improvements.

Barry Power - Signed up for a 3 x bundle with Barry. Very easy going way about him and focused on one thing at a time. A good start for a high handicapper I would say.

This may help others and feel free to give feedback if you have it. So many coaches out there now it is hard to know who to go with.

Really useless Thread here. I was actually with one of the coaches above for about 12 months and your description fits perfectly.

Would love to see something like this for coaches in Munster.

Good to get others’ opinions on coaches and lessons in general, thanks for posting.

I would add that I myself had a certain opinion of a coach based purely on results, which may actually be a bit unfair to the coach.

I had a number of lessons, maybe 7/8, with a popular coach based in north Dublin. To be honest, my swing/golf did not improve at all during that time, if anything I got worse. I ended my time with that coach after around 7/8 months and was very disappointed at the time.

However, since beginning lessons with a new coach a year or so later, I found that I now have a much greater understanding of my own swing and the golf swing in general.

I would credit some of this to the previous coach mentioned, so retrospectively, I would say he did improve my ability to improve, if that makes sense.

Sometimes, in the moment, we don’t realise that we are learning and improving in other aspects of golf, other than technique.

Finally, I would recommend anyone who would like to seriously improve their game to try Mark at Concept Golf. Superb coach, great communicator, which is half the battle for any coach. I've seen by far and away the greatest improvement through Mark's coaching and could not recommend him enough.

I had a great experience with Sergio Coyle Diez, a good few lessons over about 3 years. Really gets to the root of why you do certain things, rather than focusing on the outcome. I left Dublin so couldn't keep going to him.

To give an example, I went to another coach after Sergio. He identified I was striking off the heel, and basically told me to put something outside the ball that I'll hit if I strike off the heel. Fair enough but didn't really get to the source of the problem. I was able to go back to Sergio sometime later and the difference in lessons was stark, and he was able to tell what was causing me to hit it off the heel in the first place and how to remedy that part.

    Brian Kerley in Ardee

Went from 23 to a low of 6.7 over about 18 months

I think all coaches know what's wrong with your swing and how to fix it.

For me, Brian was the best at giving me a sentence that would produce what he wanted to see in my swing. Very generous with his time, the lesson wouldnt end until I could feel when I was doing it correctly and when I was doing it incorrectly. It meant I could have a useful range session/practice rounds between lessons. Lessons always felt like catching up with a mate

Usually give lesson on grass but he has a trackman indoor swing room and can bring it onto the grass range aswell. Good chance he'll jump in the buggy and put you on a tee box,a bunker or wherever you feel your struggling from.

Very good player if that's something you want aswell

Couldn’t agree more, I understand more now than before which is a big help…… sometimes I find at a lesson it can get very complicated very quickly, it take a a lot to process in your own head and try to understand what is being said……

I actually had a putting lesson off Michael Kennelly in Galway, gent of a man but can’t really comment as it was only one lesson and also had one off the Raflewski school in Slieve Russell off Gordon Smyth and was very good, hope to go back again..

+1 for Sergio. I was internally questioning some of his methods during lessons, but what he was trying to achieve always clicked by the end of the session. Very knowledgeable and he can get his nerdiness of the mechanics relayed into layman's terms.
