Musk publicly commented on his daughter so it's pretty fair to comment.

He hasn't done the world any service by buying Twitter. Activism on it is dead. If you're in the likes of Turkey, you're not going to x to oppose the regime cause they censor. If you're LGBT you'll be subject to abuse. Highlighting racism, the racists will own the discussion cause the platforms prioritizes it.

So the only service he's possibly done is a lot of people have simply chosen to leave a platform that has become progressively worse. The people who have remained have more tended to be extremists as demonstrated in this thread.

Nobody is buying what you're selling.

There is also the amount of complete and utter brain dead stupidity on it. Don't forget Musk re-instated Alex Jones, shows the kind of serious discourse he is interested in.

That clearly helps makes the world a better place!

Jones is just one of the high profile ones. Musk reinstated all sorts of absolute degenerates who had been banned for behaviour of any flavour you can name.

Once he had it, it was 8chan.

I see Bono is the latest target of some people's hate. Starting to see a pattern now. Rich, self made people with opinions …. 🤔

Lots of rich people fly all over the place in their private jets. Rory McIlroy has one worth $50 million. I wouldn't have said Rory's lifestyle is particularly lavish

Maybe it's just me, but I think having a private jet is lavish.

I'll never understand this desperate sycophancy.

Bono has been pretty disliked for years in Ireland because of the scale of u2's tax dodging.

Lad, you've been given lots of reasons for Musk being a piece of ****. I'm reminded of how posters used fawn far more over Trump, it became increasingly difficult as the kind of person he was got exposed and even ended up in the courts. We've already got lots of proof of Musk being a piece of **** but once again, certain types fawn over him for that.

    Wait...

Are you not aware how up his own arse people think Bono is. This has been the case since the 80s.

I'm genuinely suspicious now as to your understanding of actual Irish culture.

Ask anyone in Dublin a question about the man on the street and you'll get your answer. It's odd you are unaware of this. Frankly. It's near pop culture at this point decades on. We disliked him before U2 jammed all their music on that branded iPod and pissed the planet off 🤣🤣

I'm pretty neutral on all these people. But, I suppose from a position of hate, that might be how it looks to you

Bono has been pretty disliked for years in Ireland because of the scale of u2's tax dodging.

Listen lad, that's just proof of the limited circles you move around in and an inability to see other points of view. He may be disliked by some. Considering he lives here and pays income and property taxes the same as everyone else, that's a strange pov for an Irish person though. His business interests might be offshore but don't we benefit hugely from tax revenues being offshored in exactly the same way? There's plenty of rich Irish people who don't pay a penny to the Irish taxpayer, but the first one mentioned here was Bono. Why was that?

Because he has opinions that some don't like

Some of you cry babies need to take a chill pill and maybe touch some grass as well 😁

    Quantum brought up bono btw.

Also I'm suspicious that you're not close to common Irish culture (like at all)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,161 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

A lot of Irish people loath Bono. Feel free to pretend that it isn't the case but it is. Also declaring we're cry babies for stating it is a bit childish TBH. I like u2 btw, I've seen them live but still find Bono to be insufferable.

Touché. I'll give you that one.

At a certain level it is. You have to be extremely rich to buy and run a jet. But, then again why do we countenance our government owning and using private jets? I think there is a case to be made based on need. Or take professional golfers as an example that I mentioned already. They spend a lot of time travelling and their personal time is very precious.

So, we could say that all golfers with planes have lavish lifestyles. But are some more lavish than others? Possibly Rory McIlroys (at $50 million) is, but I'd say most golf fans don't give a flying f**k

I'm screenshotting this because the replies show there are still quality discussions and plenty of sharp humour to be found on X. And Grok automatically translating into people's native language makes multi-lingual, multi-cultural (dare I say), conversations possible.

Because of one questionable example? Quite desperate if you ask me.

Ah lighten up. Watch this then and tell me it's not funny. Just showing y'all stuff directly from my feed and none of it is the stuff you seem to fret about …

I'm certainly not trying to convince anyone to go back either. What a pointless exercise that would be.

Lad, you're shilling for one of the worst people in the world. It's more than a bit sad, honestly.

I note that you can't make any kind of defence. It's all whataboutery. X is a cesspit I have no interest in. It's a bit like people trying to revive DVDs.

    How about this?

    Screenshot 2026-06-18 at 12.41.57.png

Just occurred to me that I never see Blue Sky (or Threads) posts quoted on this site, except only to show that Blue Sky can be as bad as X.

So the very best of X is just mediocre slop.

You can't compare a government to a golfer or any other private citizen. Governments have airforces. If a private citizen has a F-15, that's lavish. They're two completely different scenarios.

The irish government has one jet. It's shared by the whole cabinet. And it's only used for particular situations where commercial won't do.

The government also has helicopters. Mary Harney got in trouble for using it for private functions.

Unfortunately my wife seemed to love Musk for his 'entrepreneurial' efforts etc. etc.

I have spent some time regularly pointing out what an absolute bastard he is, and while he has maybe made wise investments in the past (based on the silver spoon in his mouth from Daddy's diamond mine) he has not really ever created anything. "But he started PayPal!" - no he didn't. "But he invented Tesla!" - no he didn't. etc.

Most recently, I was criticising his promotion of Tommy Robinsons far right protests in response to the Belfast stabbing incident.

She has now conceded that he is in fact a dick. Thank god.

I can't recall the last time I was sent an x link. Twitter days was pretty much daily. Also if you're to glance at some of the accounts that are currently the most popular on x, they're pretty awful in terms of the **** they post. One is literally picking on a transgender high school athlete, that's a pretty warped thing to be doing so they're literally picking on a teenager on a global scale. But this is better apparently... Basically you're refraining from posting the awful **** from accounts like that cause it doesn't exactly paint things in a great light.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,059 ✭✭✭plodder

I don't think private citizens can buy F-15s. The point is that golfers and government ministers could travel with scheduled airlines wherever they want to go, but they both have a perceived need to save time and I'd accept in the case of ministers an increased need for privacy so they can work while travelling (or so they say …). So, they are comparable to some extent imo.

It's okay to say he's a bastard and to dislike or hate him, but I'm just saying it undermines people's views to then add - oh he only got lucky with his investments and other people did all the work in his companies. That's just silly. But, well done you for putting your Mrs to rights on that …

But his companies exist off the back of major government subsidies. If the subsidies both carbon and or contracts were pulled tomorrow morning they'd fall next to immediately.

I'm fairly intrigued as to how super smart and intelligent he is when he hasn't built something that can exist alone in the private market with just business to business or consumer based customers. Wouldn't that indicate a level of savvy on company building .

PayPal was a collective btw not musk on his own all of whom have built companies in the private space that don't actually exist on US government funding or carbon subsidies.

    Interesting angle though, I guess.

If any company lost all its contracts then I expect it would collapse. Obviously the likes of Space X deals substantially with the government and they've been getting contracts from it going back to Obama's time.

Every company also exists in an environment of incentives and disincentives. That's how governments get things done. They pay people to do the things they want and they uses taxes and other disincentives to discourage the things they want stopped or not done.

Every company is also a collective to some extent. All employees play a role. But, strategy is driven by senior management.
