    Definitely.

I suspect Gakpo might be sold too if we get a good offer.

Would be disappointed to see that happen TBH. He gets a hard time over Slots favoritism last season but the guy was our second highest goalscorer in the title winning season. Last season is a wash as far as I'm concerned w.r.t. to any players form. He's handy too to fill in up front given we only have 1 striker fit for next season on the books.

Nothing too much opportunistic about frimpong signing only it was an opportunity for us to get codded by leverkusen, hes not good enough and too lightweight for English football, sell on i think

Yeah I posted last week about it too how he's the perfect squad player. He's experienced, can play anywhere but also has been the most consistent forward availability wise after Salah. He rarely misses games through injury.

If someone wants to pay £70m that's a different story

Gakpo was good two seasons ago and pretty much everyone was poor last year so I wouldn't hold that against him. I wouldn't like to see him leave but he really needs to improve his link up play with Kerkez.

In fairness any player that has two bad games for Liverpool you write them off. You wanted every player gone last season.

My biggest worry with Frimpong is the injuries he was getting last season. He didn't get a decent run in the team until about half way through the season and then was out injured again for about a month.

On his performances, same logic as Gakpo. The team wasn't functioning last year. On top of that Frimpong was playing behind Salah on that right side which was hardly optimal for him. I don't think they linked up in any meaningful way at all and Salah's static movement on that wing potentially hampered Frimpong seems his best when going at full tilt. Look, I'm not convinced by him, but willing to give him a shot next season to prove himself.

Matip was also German, just played for Cameroon internationally

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭redoctober

Yeah. I would give him another chance. This season was a write-off in many ways. Not many shone apart from Szob. Frimpong looked good earlier in the season but wasn't so convincing later. In the interim he had been out injured so maybe was still getting over that. I wouldn't be in a rush to write off too many players. Even Macca could bounce back. It may be that players were underperforming for the fact that the system wasn't working. Hopefully we'll see impetus in the team next season and the signings that come in will give us some va va voom.

With Gakpo, if we get a large fee for him I would let him go but if not, I'd be inclined to keep him as back-up. He's not a terrible player and I believe the fact he was played non-stop just showed up that he's not a first team player. It's not his fault. But we need good back-ups and I would see him as one, together with the likes of Jones, Elliott, Gomez when fit. We need those guys to come in and do a job in some games and for 30 minutes regularly to prevent too big a drop-off. I think Gakpo is more than capable of being very valuable to the squad. The question will be if he wants that role and also how much he's on per week. I think it'd be a shame to lose a decent player from the squad. We've already lost so much in the past year. Having said all that if the fee is large and his weekly wage is too big, letting him go to fund a better option would make sense. I just worry about our squad right now.

Salah Robbo Konate have already freed up spaces, no?

I was about to post that Bence Bocsak was talking him up a few weeks ago. Today he has posted his analysis on Substack.

Very happy with that signing, looks the right profile, high ceiling, Spanish international, low fee. Could be great business

Also wouldn't be registering ekitike until January, so that's a space.

People are mad to sell gakpo, it seems crazy to me. Are they only thinking of first 11s or something? There's 60 games a year. Games last 105 minutes and there's 5 subs a game. We NEED 22-24 players who are at a serious level. Not kids. Gakpo did great alternating with Diaz, offering different options and I'd love to see that again.

    We need 6 forwards

Isak/ekitike (I'd love Darwin here until hugo is fully fit)

    Munoz/ Another top winger

    Gakpo/rio

That's bare minimum. I'd probably keep chiesa too.

That's one player I would of loved to have seen under Klopp although from what I read he just didn't settle and didn't have a word of english.

I was never convinced by Aspas, and that corner v Chelsea just cemented it for me. You'd be glad for him that things went so well back at Celta Vigo, but don't think there was ever a Liverpool player in there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,409 ✭✭✭✭8-10

I think he found his level at Celta Vigo and had a successful career there

He wasn't on the same level as the forward line under Klopp. Maybe similar to Ings.

Seems to be very robust though. 11 seasons in La Liga since we sold him averaging 33.5 league games a season played. One season he only played 27 league games but the other 10 seasons he played more than 30 and he's not finished yet, he's the same age as Messi

As frustrating as I found Gakpo last season I wouldn't sell him unless a stupid offer came in. I don't want to lose anymore experienced players and he might form again under Iraola.

With Slot gone, I do feel we are just a few smart signings away from proper challenging again in the next 2 seasons.

I actually saw Muñoz play in the flesh only a few months ago. I was over in the Valencia office for work and, as we often do, we managed to get to a game. It just so happened to be against Osasuna.

That's about as far as my knowledge of him goes, though. The only things I vaguely remember are that he was stupidly quick and easily Osasuna's best player. That said, the bar wasn't exactly high, they were unbelievably sh**e.

Yeah, we need 3 (maybe 4), selling Gakpo means its 4 (maybe 5).

    Confirmed pending visa.

The Athletic also reporting Liverpool ready to offer a package of around €100m/£85m for Diomande

That's a lot of spondulicks for a 19 year old with one decent season behind him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,409 ✭✭✭✭8-10

18 months ago he was playing for DME sports academy in Daytona Florida and now he's a €100m player at the World Cup

Rejected by Glasgow Rangers, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Olympiakos and Chelsea after trials

"What do you want coaches to know about you?"

"I want coaches to know that I'm a good player and love the game of soccer."

    I'm sold

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,298 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Romano saying its rejected with Leipzig holding out for €120 million

I don’t get the rush to sell Gakpo either overall he have been very good for us, always popping up with goals etc and covers a few positions. Even if we get a mad fee for him we would likely need it all to replace him with someone as good and that person would be expecting to be starting every game - not that he doesn’t expect it but since we already have him and he is integrated it’s easier to have him not start every game.

If the offer was €80m + €20m in add ons I'd say it's reasonable given the fees over the last few years but it's very expensive if it's €100m+ straight.

Edit: apparently the fee rejected was €90+€10m.
