He looked a little raw to me, at that level. He probably should have done better for the third goal. De Zerbi will be focusing on the short term, hence pushing forward with experienced players. Will be interesting to see if they are prepared to sell now or will he go out on another loan.

After years of a policy of buying cheap raw talent and loaning them out for mediocre results and letting them go, we found a teenage centre back who made team of the year in the Bundesliga. Regardless of who stays, it would be insanity to sell. He has a long contract and is only learning the position. He won’t peak for years.

I’m all for having experienced pros but if we flip completely, the director of football is just throwing darts at a board and hoping.

We play Brentford in the Sky 5:30 match away. Not the worst start to the DeZerbi era.

I’m a dinosaur so I hope someone can embed all the fixtures. What is a rude awakening is, thanks to no Europe, we have two games in August, three in September, 4 in October, 3 in November (!) with hopefully some League cup games thrown in before 6 games in December (50% of the previous 4 months total).

is it always this slow to start? I hope de Zerbi can keep a happy squad.

Fixture day could have been so so different, thanks Christ it's not and we're looking at Premier League instead of championship. Hopefully last season is the wake-up call this club needs.

Bergvall has requested a move. Lack of minutes and players being brought in in similar positions. Would be a shame to see him go, he's a real talent.
